If you remember Tutter the mouse from Bear in The Big Blue House, this song would definately fit his baby cousin because, since she's a baby, she cries when she needs something.
I haven't seen this since I was about 9, and I'm 31 now! I too used to have one of those balloon lamps, and as the oldest of four kids, I felt about each of my younger siblings the way Roberta feels about Rocky. Sing it/cry cry cry, Rocky! THANK YOU for posting this!
I used to think the same way like Roberta about my brother when he was a baby. Looking back on it know I miss those days. My brother is ten years younger than me and he's now a chatter-box.
I thought about this video all the time. I remember it when I used to watch Sesame Street with my oldest daugther (now 23)when she was little and now I shared it with my yougest who is 8.
This sketch stuck in my mind over the years, mainly because I had that exact same balloon lamp in my bedroom when I was little.
I think "Kid Vicious" would have been a cooler -sounding name for the baby than "Rocky", but this clip probably aired before the Sex Pistols hit the scene.
Funny, when I was younger, I often thought this clip would be the one with Ernie decorating the house for us viewers, thanks to that balloon lamp. But I was always put wise as soon as the crying began.
Just saw the movie "Juno" today and throughout the movie I thought of this song for a couple reasons. First of all, both this song and that movie center around a baby, and also Juno, the titular character, is into punk music. Wonder if THIS was the type of baby Juno eventually gave birth to. ;)
Love the organ on this! Wonder if The White Stripes ever saw this. The organ here sounds like that crazy guitar solo they have in "You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)". Similarly I wonder if The Ramones ever saw this since the verse crib (no pun intended) directly from their "Blitzkrieg Bop".
The only other female I remember Jim Henson performing is a woman Anything Muppet wearing a fur coat when The Amazing Mumford was discussing what Suprise means when he kept making that woman disappear and re-appear.
Well, Kermit does have a drag queen past...watch for the clip where he lip-synchs Rosemary Clooney's "I've Grown Accustomed To Your Face" in a blonde wig.
A lot of Jerry's younger characters sound a lot like Gobo Fraggle (or, if you prefer, Robin the Frog). In fact, on the interviews for the "Fraggle Rock" Season 1 box set, Jerry himself said that he performed Gobo with the intent of sounding like a teenaged Robin (since Kermit's little nephew either hasn't aged or did something to stunt his growth). Shouldn't Robin be in his 30's by now?!
That's the clown lamp from my childhood! I don't know who made it, but it seems to have been fairly popular in the early 80s. You can also see it in the movie "Cujo" in Tad's bedroom.
In case anyone is curious, I figured out who made that clown lamp. It was produced by the Dolly Toy Company and appeared in at least one other "Sesame Street" segment (I believe it shows up in baby Miles' bedroom), as well as the movie "Cujo."
Are you kidding me?! I'd recognize that chord progression (A-D-E) anywhere; it was among the first I ever picked up on when I was first learning guitar. I like to think that Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny are getting a good laugh out of this, wherever they are now.
I was thinking of "Blitzkrieg Bop" for some reason and this SS bit came to mind! I never thought about the similarities before -- probably because I watched my last episode of SS before I discovered the Ramones.
ive been lookin for this!! thanks for uploading

Well how about that. A Muppet with clinical depression.
Anticyclonic 3 years ago
Actually, that would be Boober Fraggle. Clinical depression mixed with OCD mixed with paranoia about...well, just about anything.

LOL! "Kid Vicious"!! Yeah that would've been funny! "Baby Ramone" (since all the Ramones last names were "Ramone"), might've also been good!

Same here. I've heard it said that the simplest riffs (e.g., "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Smoke On The Water," etc.) last the longest. This just proves it.

Did Rocky annoy you the way he cried?
tpirman1982 5 years ago
Yeah, it obviously sounds more like a man imitating a baby, or maybe even Frazzle crying.
wiley207 4 years ago
If you listen very carefuly, that crybaby sounds a bit like Gobo Fraggle.

You're right. And the mom sounds just like Miss Piggy.
