The End of the Film was terrible, no offense, but any end of a film that screams, "SEQUAL!!!!!" is not a good ending. Even Star Wars Episode 5 had that terrible sort of ending. And even Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring and Two Towers, as good as they were, they didn't have a good ending. A good ending is when the story can stand on it's own without telling us to come back for another movie. Like the first and second Harry Potter movies. Like the Narnia movies. Like Indiana Jones movies.
Dude, ESB had a great ending, it gave hope after a grueling chase and beat down. ESB is just a triumph as a movie, too bad that RotJ was just horrible.
what makes you think star wars and the lotr movies had bad endings? you cant help it that they are part of a series, so it cant really be avoided that they wont be quite complete, but i think the lotr movies especially number 1 had some of the best movie endings ive ever seen.
They could have come up with better endings than "See you next movie!" The most recent Harry Potter movie was just like that. The ending needs to be able to stand on it's own. The book of Golden Compass had a much much better ending than the movie, but the producers didn't want to "offend," which made the ending suck. Fellowship ends with the people saying they are getting Merry and PIppin and Two Towers ends with Gollum refering to Shelob, i.e. "See you next movie."
true, but you know it has to continue; its what keeps the viewer coming back, so they can see what happens next. but both 1 and 2 i think give a lot of closure to the movie, with the merry pippen and gollum stuff just being a small thing. i think we two just disagree on some taste and focus; while you blow up the loose ends to be really bad things, i think they are necessary but arent that huge of a deal.
Just about to start reading this.

Good interview. I'm glad Philip liked the ending at least. Maybe there's hope for the sequels if they actually make them.
