While Flaco and Valerio are some of my favorites, I still say Joel is their match without reservations. A new dude to watch is Dwayne Verheyden from Holland, at fifteen he can give anyone a run for their money. For the doubters, look him up on You Tube Tex Mex.
damn this is how a musician makes his name. he carves his own style, never emulating others. wish they would be that way today but on radio, everyone sounds the same. guys make ur own name ok. joel guzman i have seen him and he is like no one else, no tony de la rosa, ruben naranjo, angel flores, not anyone. he has his own style and i love it
And see: la puerta negra los tigres del norte : here on YouTube as well. Already a definitive "norteño" style has emerged, but the Austro-Germanic and Czech sound is still present. Muchos mexicanos o lo niegan, o lo desconocen, pero es un hecho: la música norteña tiene muchísima influencia de la música central europea.
Check out , here on YouTube, Trio Alpin - Zillertaler Steinbock Marsch Polka . Yes, the Czech and Polish (and German) influence was felt in México, along with the arrival of the breweries. Today's "narco-bandas" are distorsions (and pretty gross ones) of a band tradition that also as roots in Central Europe. So in Tejas-Coahuila (original name Tejas y Coahuila), in the Midwest of USA and in Northern Mexico, the polka or polca has become part of the culture... Enjoy! Tschuss!
Does anyone know at what age Joel Guzman started with Little Joe since he was very young when he started playing the keyboard and the accordion and does anyone know where he is from?
@cuorepericoloso from what i know, he's from Washington state, which is where Little Joe met him back in the day. Mr Joel Guzman is one of my ultimate favorites!
JOEL GUZMAN! As far as I'm concerned, YOU have more charisma than ELVIS! Seen u play recently, in 2007 you are even more charismatic than on this clip!
You are most FAVORITE of ALL on YOU TUBE. Congratulations!...dp
You know what I love about this music? It takes me back to my Polish roots in Long Island New York - you would not believe how much the same it sounds! You just need Stash and Kasimir singin in Polish about their fat girlfriends and some beer with a vodka chaser! Mam se dobrse! = I'm fine with it!
Thanks for the love, I also dig the Polka too!!! I guess we're two crazy, beer drinking, accordion loving cultures, and who said music was not universal!
Sorry dude! I love the Tejano accordian, but the background beat is too heavy in the new world. The absolute masters of accordian are the Slovenians from Slovenia. Mexican and Tejano players come in as a close second.
tejano and mexican accordionists gave polka a unique flavor. they get criticized, just like mariachi and banda does vs. orchestra music. u can't say one is better than the other!! WE added the drums!! WE added the sax!! WE did conjunto, banda, and mariachi style together BEFORE the accordion was played with a symphony in europe. just check the history. this music is only a part of our great mexican, tex-mex and american culture!!

A polka is not a Polka without the accordion. Even the Bavarian/German polkas don't sound right without the Squezzbox.

One has to notice that the "troubled" areas of the world lack polkas.

Tradition tejano polkas are by far better than any european polkas. Tejano is an improved version of the european crap!
