  • Not really fair to the tobacco companies to be honest. If they are forced to have images of diseased lungs on cig containers, then alcohol should have images of diseased kidneys on their bottles. Also, I'd say roughly 90% of all smokers are aware that it is bad for them. They might not know it can cause oral cancer, they might not even know that it's bad for their lungs, but they know, generally, that it is bad for them.

  • WHAAAT!?! These are.... are bad for you? Oh my god I thought these were perfectly safe and even good for you! Wow I sure am glad they put these pictures on these cigarettes otherwise I would have never known. I guess ill just quit right away with complete ease now that I know.

Honestly is this really what the government has in their heads as far as what these warning will do? Seriously... we fucking know they are going to kill us so enough is enough. Legalize weed then maybe I can actually quit

  • Great video, you are so right. The only thing our government cares about is money. The government, FDA, NIH etc don't give a crap if someone dies a slow and painful death, what they care about is the billions and billions of dollars ($200 billion to be exact) lost each year to cover tobacco related illness. "We are trying to save lives, but reducing use of tobacco" um...no you're just trying to save tax dollars

  • Hmm...what about alcohol liver graphics?

  • People need to stop putting us smokers through more shit, what do they thing we don't know it's bad for us? Just another stupid fuck.

  • @CnRDirt it also hurts US. you guys are idiots. try harder to quite!

  • @nerdymom2 look son, why dont you stop being a stuck up bitch. quitting isnt as easy as it sounds you fuckin queef.

  • @CnRDirt They know you know that it's bad for you, they are trying to get you to quit to save money. Tobacco use costs the US government about $200 billion dollars a year think about all that money lost that could otherwise be used for our schools, fire, police, hospitals and to make our community safer. That's why the government cares. The government doesn't care that smoking kills you, they care that smoking kills the economy!

  • I can't believe that these are actually going to be on the market. I thought that people would be so outraged and the tobacco companies would spend so much money on fighting it that it wouldn't get past the concept stage.

  • what u talking about? What r u fucking surprised!

America is the ONLY developed country that doesnt have graphic sick pictures on cigarette packs! Even dirt poor 3rd world countries already have them. Most countries already been had these warnings for years!

  • I personally think a mistake was made the moment someone walks into a voting booth.

  • @InContemplation truth.

  • Awesome!

  • warning! live can kill you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Down with Koch

  • if you ask me thier needed, even the fun ones

  • they should of added a pic of Pelosi to the cigs. her skeleton smile is pretty scary!

  • I think adding a corpse to a cigarrette label is going too far. They might as well add corpse pics to the alcohol, rx drugs, all the ecoli food we eat not too mention fast food garbage. Taco Bell adds worms to their meat..add a pic of worms to that taco wrapper. Dont stop there...add a pig nose to the pic of every government official who advocates pork spending.

  • Fuck that, I'll just buy a sexy cigarette case to put my ciggies in. And that way, I'll be stimulating the government cock to a hardened length Capitol Hill never thought possible!

  • Does it?No Im gonna smoke regardless.88% of people think smokers know the dangers?Well no fucking shit we do.God americans are fucking stupid

  • 1:42 is funny.

  • We could stop it... But we won't we will let the Pelosi's of the world control us.. She is so much smarter than us... What a great and brilliant woman...

  • So, really who are these fools arguing with enslavement. I think that everyone would like to be enslaved. After all just think about the government kickbacks after the nationalization of monetized debt. With any opposition in check under penalty of law, and indefinite incarceration America will be a blast. Free prison labor positions for anyone seeking employment, now anyone can have a job, how can things get any better. Thank You Peoples Republic of America, also known as the U.S.S.A..

  • Also, before you are critical just remember that spelling, and mathematics are relatively new, and the government needs time to adjust. If basic Arithmetic is only 5600 years old, how can you expect elected officials to have already encountered, and grasp these concepts. The government just needs time to adjust, and everything would come around if we could just keep increasing the budget until 7075, government statistics show that things can turn around by then if we stay on the same coarse.

  • Strange; there is not a single comment defending "The Nanny State," in which the spelling is correct(LOL). Well, then I guess there should be a government program to teach people how to use "spell check"( an outright spelling program would be to fiscally advantageous; teach every american how to spell, the government would have to spend way to much money). After all that we would still need to teach elected officials how to do basic arithmetic, of coarse one can't be to hopeful in this age.

  • They don't put warning labels on guns "This gun can kill you" It is pure in between tne eyes. Is smoking cool, if the govrement says : [We don't care if you smoke, we earn money , and you just hurt yourselve so we can sell you medicine and healthcare.]

  • The Nanny state only exists because there are those who need to be Nannied.

  • "Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

  • lol it's funny how graphic and disgusting pictures are fine, but when you show something beautiful like breasts, then everybody goes crazy about censorship.

    America ftl.

  • Canada was VERY close to approving warning labels on alcohol, but the measure failed in a close vote.

This really isn't much to be angry about, you can at least still buy the product. The banning of flavoured cigarillos is what's truly pissed me off--an actual BANNING of a product!

  • @Spudst3r I agree, warning labels won't stop anyone from purchasing the product if they want to, it just means that they're more aware of the risks. There are plenty of issues worth investigating, this isn't one of them.

  • terrible how we ALL are living under the POLICY of the pharmaceutical quartel.. these are the most dangerous people who existing in the world. THEY aredemaging your health, THEY ARE giving you pills but these pills make you ill. and you have to take more of them.... it is a big business to make the world SMOKEFREE.billionsof dollas have been invested. NOW they want their money back FROM US!!! smoke as you can! never let them win!!!!! never "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The state using scare tactics and fear-mongering to meet its goals? Inconceivable!

  • @BlameTheFirst Mencken called it when he wrote, almost a century ago, about the government creating hobgoblins to alarm the public so that they will do anything, including surrendering their freedom, for the false security promised by the expansive and menacing state. Indeed, all politics is predicated upon this ability to keep the public panicked. A populace which is indifferent to the overlords is a populace not easily manipulated and enslaved. The District of Corruption can't have that!

  • OK, so we keep asking the government, "Why do you do this?" or "Why do you do that?" or "When will you realize blah blah blah?" Now, DOES IT EVER ANSWER??

Government is the problem. Not THE SPECIFIC GOVERNMENT we have today. No, the idea of government itself. It will never go away as long as keep giving it legitimacy in our minds. Government and liberty are incompatible. Wake up.

  • I love you, ReasonTV.

  • So according to you images does not affect people? You might call this anti-commercials. By the same logic, regular commercials do not work either right? But for some magical reason, companies all over the world spend billions of dollars on it. Hmm... yea, they must be wrong...

  • @sweYoda2 Obviously you did not pay attention to the content of this video. It clearly states that people who smoke are already aware of the dangers (88%), and that reduction in tobacco use in the past decade was similar in both Canada (with images) and the United States (without images). In other words, the images have a net zero effect, whilst costing tobacco businesses and tax payers to implement and regulate the use of images.

  • Faulty logic via reductio ad absurdium. Fail.

Fortunately you "MBA values" people aren't sophisticated enough to manage anything more than sermons that satisfy your choir.

Your back-to-the-dark-ages, control-the-underlings-through-fear values are vile, toxic, and inhuman. There is more to life than business success and land ownership. To deny this is to embrace darkness and enslavement.

  • @Oceanus57

Where did anyone claim that business success and land ownership should be the focus of life?

You claim to be a skeptic of religion and yet act like a creationist. How about not using pathetic strawmen next time?

  • @rockandrock44 I'm not claiming that anyone claimed that, although there are endless folks with their own businesses who are libertarians, and they seem to think that business success makes them the best kind of people. Land ownership is a political and social issue that undermines the concept of libertarianism. There has to be a state before land ownership can happen. Nice going with the skeptic/creationist jibe though. Yeah. That hurt.

  • @Oceanus57

//There has to be a state before land ownership can happen. //

No, land ownership can and has preceded the State. Land ownership is dependent on a certain intersubjective consensus, not a State.

  • @rockandrock44 Laughable. If there's no apparatus of state, there's no land ownership except by force. Fail. That's the truth of libertarianism. Might = right. And like all other isms, it's excessively simplistic, just a thought experiment, and could never be put into practice without resulting in misery, bloodshed and death.

Libertarianism is as useless as fascism, socialism and communism. It's unworkable.

It's just a set of ideals, and not very nice ones at that..

  • Warning - voting Democrat or Republican will cause enslavement under a police state.

  • @paulcoonan Ha, good one :)

  • @paulcoonan

Beware the politician who says: "Vote for me, I will write laws to help you."

  • Libertarians are shellfish for not letting other people spend their money against their will.

  • @DoctorCapitalist We prefer the term crustacean; shellfish is such a loaded term.

  • I don't think the government should tell us what to do, but this is a stupid video.

It didn't really make a point about government; this video just makes me think Reasontv is trying to say that nothing bad happens to people who smoke.

  • Koch Industries sure must make a lot of money from tobacco to continue slamming the FDA. The graph you use comparing Canada to USA makes the argument that graphic packaging works, if people already know smoking is bad, then the graphic packaging is irrelevant. Your slippery slope argument to absurdity is false equivalence. Christ, libertarians are fucking retarded

  • @robertmike57

No, it makes the argument that because we do NOT have graphic packaging in America,

and our smoking declined on average the same as smokers in Canada that DO have graphic packaging. That graphic packaging does not have a significant impact.

It's a waste of tax dollars.

  • @robertmike57 The Koch brothers are already billionaires- why would their primary concern be making more money? I seriously wonder what people like you think the Koch's would do with another couple billion that they can't already do. At some point you have to admit that they do what they do on principle, not because they make money from it. Or do you think they would somehow profit from gay marriage, legal marijuana, and an end to foreign wars (all things they are in favor of) too?

  • @jetboyJ22 I'm glad you bring up the point of the Koch Brothers already having billions, as I used to have that same question. But it's all a game for them, they screwed their 2 other brothers (there are 4 brothers) when they bought out their interests. If I smoked, the shock graphics would discourage smoking, presenting information in such a manner. I'm neutral about the graphic packaging, but libertarian arguments are faulty.

  • @robertmike57 So the rich guys "screwed them" by offering them a lot of money which they accepted voluntarily? Yea it that really sounds terrible, poor guys getting offered an acceptable deal.

  • @robertmike57

Try again. the graphs showed the same slope between to comparisons where one major difference was the packaging. Since the slope is the same that means that major difference is irrelevant and a waste of money. Got Logic?

  • @KaelinSaint LOL! The typical conservative simpleton falling for cherry picked information. I can think of several things I would want to know, sure there are tricks and deceptions I haven't considered. So I regard it all as bullshit.

  • @robertmike57

You got it wrong, Demotard. If nothing else, it shows there are other means to achieving the same result. Most likely, the result was driven by economics and packaging was immaterial.

It is nice to see that your all knowing statist mentality is here to save us from ourselves. I see food is next on your agenda. You already helped ship dirty manufacturing abroad. Thank you.

Actually, if the government stuck to only informing the public, I am fine with that.

  • @robertmike57 So stealing money from everyone to force some other people to put labels on that their consumers don't want is so much smarter and more moral then letting everyone do as they please as long as it doesn't directly violate other people's rights? Yea we are the retarded ones.

  • @robertmike57

Yeah, because we all know that if you support something, you must being getting some sort of material wealth out of it - because no one supports things on principle, right?

    You're fucking retarded.

  • I find it funny that the far left idiots on this page want to be everyones parent not knowing the ramifications of that, like giving up liberty freedom and the right to choose what you should do with your body and what you should think. Im a libertarian, and i try to stay as center as i can eventhough i stand by some fiscal conservative views i also am very liberal in morality and on social issues, but to tell people to not smoke is bad now and days makes it seem like you think were idiots.

  • And one only has to smell garbage to know it is garbage, not go and dwell in it.

  • Great video!

  • Smoking companies that have spent billions on campaigns of disinformation and internal memos have proven that they lied to the American people about smoking. Your analogy about what they are doing is dumb. These labels are a backlash to try and counter the damage the companies did by breaking the law in the first place and trying to educate the people who have been lied to about smoking.

  • @jgagnepain So who is listening to the cigarette companies about how healthy they are? If they are funding others to lie for them enter the investigative journalists.

It isn't a war, there isn't "backlash", because there was no "frontlash". The cigarette companies didn't attack or coerce anyone, yet here the government is coercing all of us, not just them. If I wanted to buy a pack without the disgusting shit on the front I can't, what did I do wrong? I don't smoke, I'm against coercion.

  • @Hashishin13 That's right, be the tobacco industry's willing puppet.

  • WARNING: Voting (D) or (R) will cause imminent corruption.lol

  • THANK YOU DADDY GOV, FOR SAVING ME FROM MYSELF. Now please stop slaughtering little brown people all over the planet, and get the fuck out of my laptop. That'd be greeeeat, thanks.

  • Fascists? the Government? I think Drew Carey and Friends need to look a little closer to home before they go insistently inflicting the half baked ideas they got from reading Ayn Rand in college on the general populace.

  • @GalapagosPhil75 Most people like you that name drops Ayn Rand, doesn't know what they are talking about.

  • @DKshad0w I know enough about Libertarian Politics to know its as dead an end as Communism, Fascism and Capitalism. It's an extremity that at its best might help a small few and at worst exposes many to the predilections of those fews whims and basest natures. Rand was a published fool, and nothing more.

  • @GalapagosPhil75 Extermity? Having the extreme opinion that the state shouldn't run our lives? I highly doubt you understand any of Ayn Rand's work. You're just using the standard Ayn Rand said it so it's wrong ad hom.

  • The comparison between fries and cigarettes is not the best one, first, french fries are not addictive ( at least not chemically ) and no one dies from second hand french fries, unless you pick em up off the ground. skiing looks dangerous, so no need to put warning on them, plus i haven't seen any ski resort posters at kids eye level in stores with cute little animals as i have with cigarettes. warning labels yes, graphic labels NO, legalize everything as long as no harm to others.

  • I'm all for the FDA putting these graphics on cigarette packs. Smoking is the single most preventable cause of disease and death; anything that reduces the incidence of smoking is fine in my book.

If you libertarians had your way, with your deification of the free market and hatred of any sort of govt. regulation, companies would run wild. Screw the environment, screw the public, just increase your bottom line any way you can. Not a world I'd want to live in.

  • @cufflink44

// with your deification of the free market and hatred of any sort of govt. regulation, companies would run wild. Screw the environment, screw the public, just increase your bottom line any way you can. Not a world I'd want to live in.//

Laughable strawman. Look into the libertarian ideas on private property rights and externalities in terms of the environment, as well as the Non Aggression Principle.

  • Sounds like a reason to hang on to those old packs. Collect them all.

  • How are these images infringing on anyone's rights or freedoms?! They are just pictures SHOWING smokers what can happen to them physically if they use the product. The government has not said you CAN'T smoke, just that it's probably not the healthiest choice, which we already know...seriously...smokers are such whiners!!

  • If people don't get the idea after decades & decades of warnings that this stuff may cause cancer, it may kill you, then nothing will work. To the FDA, we're all children. '"I'm from the gov't & I'm here to help."

  • @UTubekookdetector the problem is suckers are born every minute, the anti smoking champagne has worked by just looking at how smoking has dropped, but i do agree that graphic warnings are not necessary on products. but having labels, and letting people decide what they want to do is ok.. no one is born knowing everything.

  • GIL: I concur & I have no problem with a simple label (after all, it's up to the consumer to read it and/or heed it), but these people are going way overboard. They're incredibly paternalistic.

  • Minimize government and get our freedoms back! Vote Ron Paul 2012! Join the R[evol]ution!

  • Every video game you buy should have a warning label on it. Nothing more than a hot chick with a line through it! (D&D games can cause serious problems in finding a sexual partner)

  • There are warnings on alcohol, please correct this, you're coming off looking like an ass.

  • @mistoroboto You are the ass my friend. What he said were graphic warnings, not just warnings in general. It's best to pay attention to the details in life.. so that you do not make a fool of yourself. Just some neighborly advice for you.

  • @ultimatesasuke10 No I am not, they are using the same hyperbole as the government and need to be called out on their bullshit.

  • Comment removed

  • @reapfreak You assume too much... You think it doesn't harm your loved ones having to see theirs dying in hospital rooms. As usual folks tend to not think outside themselves. If its an issue for you... cover the pack. Simple. No one is forcing anything here. This video is obvious propaganda.

  • @Drakkenboy It shouldn't be the government's responsibility to determine how 'considerate' we should be to each other, especially not our familes.

  • Quit smoking and gain weight - Then you are told that you are no good.

Eat what they tell you to eat - And you will slowly starv to death.

Having fun in your live - And you may risk prison.

Don´t let them get away with that.

    The NGO´s sucks.

    They World Order sucks.

  • Nice slippery slope falacy there.

  • @TheCaptainLulz I was thinking more of a straw man fallacy, myself. :D

  • We need 'warning' lables in the public school system warning children of government corruption and the dumbing down of their minds.

  • lol and many of u noobs think the govt is trying to kill you off through vaccines... why help save u and then help kill you?

the probability of lung problems from smoking is high. driving and the other examples invalidated by that point. they put food info on the back of products (fat, calories, etc)... i wouldnt mind that in restaurants tbh.

  • After everyone has quit smoking, longevity will go up, people will spend longer time in hospitals with all the other diseases that people get after they have taken up overeating & overdrinking to compensate for quitting the smokes. Plus there will be no more tax money coming in from the smokers. I wonder if our geniuses in the government have thought about any of that.

  • @MarkRonay

Well who says they'll get other diseases? The average weight people put on when they quit smoking is only around 10 pounds. The increased respiratory function will promote more active lifestyles.

Do you honestly think if everyone quit smoking, somehow it will be damaging, or do you work for the tobacco companies?

  • ... Wow.... this objection is stupid. Get over it. I like this idea. Go FDA!

  • @Drakkenboy

    eh. go fuck urself

  • @Drakkenboy You don't mind strangers forcing you to do things with your own property, even when you don't even harm anyone?

  • The next step is Australia, they have banned all brand names on cigarette packs. Now it only shows images worse then the ones here, with a tiny brand name at the top.

  • how long till some one sues the gov over these labels

  • The great thing is when you get these packs you can take them out and sit them on the table across from a bitching non-smoker so as they might not eat !!! We do need warning labels on liquer bottles, Just show a really ugly woman/man laying in a bed.

  • Here's the problem: the people they're targeting with these new labels (ie: daily users & chain smokers) don't give a damn about their personal health. It may work on minors and adults who don't smoke/want to quit, but that's about it.

Also, we'll always have at least one person in every town on this planet that will go against the warnings & social norms and light one up anyways.

  • Comment removed

  • Will they guarantee these creepy images aren't shown to children? I hate to think how I would have reacted if I'd seen some of these as a young child.

  • @hennypenny247 Children see much worse. Cable tv has gotten very graphic.

  • Agents of the state, may ye meet a swift and gruesome end at the hands of Bob the Almighty Hamster.

  • I think the TSA warning label should be printed onto stickers (you can buy sticker paper at Walmart) and discretely placed around the airport.

  • what dumb ass picks up a cigarette, lights it up, and smokes it and says "this is SO healthy, i bet I will live such a long happy disease free life" to begin with. Inhaling something on fire is bad for you? No way! i had no idea, next you'll tell me water gets people wet. since when do we need the government to tell us what we already know?

  • Wait, what? Smoking can kill me? Shit.

  • a mans body is his private property and he shall do what he wants with his body, period!

    fcuk the "status quo"!

  • @hiphopsocnroc Government scum would not claim that you have no right to put whatever you want into your body, they wouldn't want to outright say that you're slave. However they do claim the right to prohibit or prosecute anyone manufacturing or selling certain goods ;)

    End the State.

  • Why is the govt trying to get people to quit smoking? Don't they know that the more people smoke the more they get in tax revenue? Not only that, but if people die off earlier because of smoking we'll save a bunch in social security payouts.

  • the ads are pretty damn pointless,i mean someone point to one single smoker who DOESN'T know that it can fucking kill them

  • @warpedwiselegoman this is straight out of an idea introduced in fight club

  • @jeffthecoder It's also the plot of Thank You for Smoking.

  • The government wants to warn people about the dangers of smoking? FASCISM! Stupid libertarians.

  • @FrontalTraction It's not that they're warning people about something, it's just the way they choose to do it.

  • @crazypants88 By showing the results of doing it. Only in America can a faceless corporation selling cancer in cartons be considered a victim.

  • yeah stupid libertarians, trying to hold people accountable for their own lives and give them freedom and liberty. Yeah fuck us.

  • @scienceatheism Those poor poor tobacco corporations, they need to be defended from the fascist government, trying to help people to not have cancer.

  • how about u let people think for themselves, im pretty sure every smoker knows the risk , i knew the risk when i started to smoke, so did my friends and so did my family. It was a choice we dont need a fucking picture to tell us hey its bad for you, WE FUCKING KNOW! its called being an adult and not looking for higher power to cradle you and cuddle with you as you make your life decisions. I bet you have to have mommy near you to tell you to swim at the shorter end of the pool you fucking drone.

  • @scienceatheism By your logic, graphic packaging is no big deal then as you already know it.

  • what? im saying if someone tells me something is bad and the research says its bad, i dont need a picture telling me its bad, because i already know its fucking bad. By your logic their should be instructions on how breath you fucking lazy shit.

  • @scienceatheism Wrong again, I could swim from 4 years old and loved going off the diving board.

  • wrong again? i was only wrong once this whole time we were interacting. All you have done is say that the government needs to be our mommy and daddy. Thats it, not explaining why not really understanding that america is not about that its about individuality, liberty, freedom. I bet you dont even know what the constitution is do you? trying to school an atheist of all people on logic. Not going to win.

  • @scienceatheism Wow, you're an egotistical prick. "trying to school an atheist of all people on logic."

It pisses me off when they say something along the lines of "You're wrong because teh constitution, LOLOLOLOLZ."

    A. They rarely cite what part of the constitution is in conflict.

    B. Just because the constitution says something, doesn't make it right, (see the 18th amendment).

  • see the 18th amendment removed or unratified. So what parts of the constitution do you not like? and who do you refer to when you say they rarely cite? who is they? the republicans? im not a republican, im a libertarian. and im sorry let me rephrase that a bit, america is about individuality, liberty and freedom that was the basics to my incoherent babbling.

  • @scienceatheism "They" in this case is used to refer to anyone who responds "That's unconstitutional." to someones point, and the responder does not cite what part of the constitution is in question.

Many libertarians support Ron Paul, who said "The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers." I find this strange as libertarians probably would say that church and state should be separated.

  • I support Ron Paul as well but he isnt leading with the notion that he is bringing church back in the federal government, his main message is liberty, equal oppurtunity and invididuality. See the difference between ron paul and the rest of the republican ticket is this, yes he believes in god and yes he finds that faith is useful but he isnt out there saying shit like "god spoke to me and said that invading iraq was the right thing to do". He actually uses reason and logic and facts and his mind

  • Comment removed

  • @scienceatheism "not explaining why not really understanding that america is not about that its about individuality, liberty, freedom."

Your sentence was so clumsily worded, that I have no idea what it means. Please clarify without so many "nots"

  • Comment removed

  • @scienceatheism They have to do it different, and telling people they don't hurt themselves, but they hurt their family and their friends when they die or get sick or get cancer of smoking . ( Seen to many die that way) I wonder when the goverement starts realy caring about people.

  • the government is only put in place to protect the people, from bullies and outside aggression thats all. Especially in this country we have seen what big governments has done to people in the past, our founding fathers has put in place a system where we can regulate the power of one group of people or one man gets. We are a nation of laws, reason, logic, freedom, liberty at least we should be. 1persons choice is their choice THEY have to deal with the consequences not us their fault they smoked

  • @scienceatheism

Why should I be paying higher premiums for major medical because you smoke? You say it's your choice and you know the risk? How about a tiered system based on your choice, your lifestyle? Smokers and drinkers pay more, those that don't and can prove it pay less.

  • yes lets get together and do that. Those who smoke and drink have to pay more then those who dont. Maybe then you can stop bitching but i doubt you would stop. If it isnt this it would be another thing, trying to rule someone elses life because you dont think people are grown up enough to make choices and face consequences. You are my father apparently.

  • @scienceatheism

No, I think that people are grown up and should be held accountable for their choices. You want to smoke and drink yourself into the hospital? You knew the dangers, you're an adult. Don't expect my salary and medical premiums to subsidize your premiums and medical treatment. This is a free country, you have the right to kill yourself slowly and/or damage your health, all of your own free will.

  • good, at least we agree something.

  • @scienceatheism hahaha right on. It seems that in order to do things like this, one has to have a real distrust in humanity.

  • Well i distrust humanity to,but my feeling is if you want to be a dumb fuck and destroy your life, go right the fuck ahead just dont hurt anyone else in the process. And another thing if you are going to start putting shit like this on products that kill people why dont we put fucked up livers on liquor bottles or a someones head shot off on the side of a gun or a babys head smashed in on the side of a car because car accidents are just as deadly as any fucking ciggerate.

  • Right on. Even drinking too much water can even kill you. Good thing Big Brother's there to help save us from ourselves!

  • Yeah do people think we are that stupid to realize hey this shit kills us. I mean we are americans and we are pretty stupid but come one this is a little over board seeing that you are told sense the 4th grade that smoking is bad for you. Over and over again drilling it in our heads and hope people realize in doing so you only create a society where they want to rebel against that so thats why you see such a rise in smokers in teenagers, to be rebels.

  • Or they fail to realize that different people have different scales of value and that there's plenty of evidence to suggest that legalizing drugs reduces their overall use.

  • Absolutely. You hit that shit right its head man. The war on drugs costs us billions of dollars and we arnt winning, hell there is more drugs now then there has ever been, more murders and more corruption because of it. Its bullshit.

  • Not the mention the Law of Unintended Consequences: Those loyal to the cartels lobby for stricter rules, raising prices; the inventions of crack cocaine & crystal meth as cheap alternatives to "the real stuff"; increased potency, because the user doesn't know for a fact that he'll get to smoke tomorrow; people enticed to try in order to, like you said, stick it to "the man"; corruption of law enforcement; kids can now purchase marijuana easier than alcohol, and; the breach of personal liberties.

  • @FrontalTraction I don't think government has any business "warning" anyone, but if so forcing a private business to put special government labels on their product is not only unnecessary but just plain wrong.

Businesses have a much greater incentive to warn consumers when their products can be dangerous than they do to try to hide it. Disclosing potential dangers avoids lawsuits and builds trust.

  • @weablez

    This. Great post.

  • @weablez Nice use of scare quotes there.

Funny, I don't think cigarette companies put warning labels on their products until the government made them do it.

  • @FrontalTraction

Where did anyone say these warnings were "fascism"?

    Stupid 15 year olds..

  • @rockandrock44 It was implied.

  • @FrontalTraction

The argument is that the warnings would be counter productive anyway (look into the nature of unintended consequences), and that it is wrong for us to have a Nanny State telling people what to put into their bodies.

Only 15 year olds would think that libertarians actually think that this is a real act of "fascism" in any meaningful sense, at least in this instance.

  • @rockandrock44 Ahh, ad hominem.

  • @FrontalTraction

Nope, try again. It would be an ad hominem if I stated you were wrong BECAUSE you were 15, but I stated no such thing.

  • @rockandrock44 It was ad hominem by insulting me because of my age and not my arguments.

  • @FrontalTraction

Insult does not equal Ad Hominem. From Wikipedia, an Ad Hominem is " is an attempt to link the truth of a claim to a negative characteristic or belief of the person advocating it." I never linked the truth or falsity of your claim to your age.

    Derp

  • @rockandrock44 It was implied.

  • Do you believe the government should or should not regulate the tobacco industry?

  • @FrontalTraction

    Define "regulate".

  • @rockandrock44 Control sales to minors, tax cigarettes and chewing tobacco, and educate the general public on the dangers of cigarettes.

Also, smoking bans in cars with children and bans in businesses such as restaurants where people might not want to be exposed to carcinogens.

  • @FrontalTraction No, selling harmful products to children and making people open their windows while smoking in a car with kids I agree should be enforced. If you don't like smoke at a restaurant DON'T EAT THERE, or complain to the owner.

The government has no right to steal from people at all, taxes are theft. If you are dumb enough to eat or smoke something which you haven't researched then its YOUR PROBLEM. Paying for ads to educate morons by stealing from non-morons is bad for society.

  • @Hashishin13 Opening the windows is not enough. The poor child will still have to deal with the cancer causing smoke.

    "Taxes are theft."

I can't tell if you're a troll or extremely stupid.

Well, I guess you can't call 911 if your house is on fire or you're having a heart attack, you can't use public roads, you can't use libraries, and you can't use of public parks, you know why? These are paid with taxes!

    Stup
