@zednotzee7 Very true. Like i said, i have absolutely no experience in this kind of stuff. I can just test and see how it cuts in the standards of regular knives and then i just assume that if ever needed it will work same as if you had that regular knife. Blade shape is pretty much just whatever i came up with. No real science behind it to be honest lol. Lets see what people with some experience and training will say when they'll get them. And lets hope they wont ever have to use them...
@archer3394 thats just a regular knife with regular steel. this is one purpose build thing. because of the titanium its ultra light. thats why titanium. im making regular custom knives too...
Gav, very good test if you ask me. If other people understood how light these knives are they would agree more. Titanium is an excellent all-round inexpensive metal that is not too bad to work with
@wisehybred its actually very hard to work with. only reason i even dared to do this is because whole idea was to make it out of think titanium so its a bit easier to grind. but the regular thickness of 1/8" and thicker is nightmare to grind. at least with my tools lol. but yeah you're totally right. the weight difference is unbelievable unless you actually feel it in the hand...
That thing looks quite useful. It would be interesting to see how it could cut through a couple of layers of thick winter clothing.Your'e not all that likely to be attacked by someone who's stark naked to be honest ( at least I hope not, lol) and thickish leather (like in a motorcycle jacket) in a slash attack. I'm sure it would do well, but I think that it would be a good test for it :)
@zednotzee7 it will cut same as any other knife. only difference is that it wont hold that edge as long as regular knife. so those couple cuts in self defense it will handle just as well as anything else...
@gavkoo Sorry, my fault - I actually was thinking of the blade shape and grind, not the material it's made from. Remember, that someone won't just stand there and let you cut them. So must cuts will probably be more a sort of a slice than a good hard cut. As I said, I'm sure it would do well, but it might be an idea to check. But that's up to you of course :)
@Jrsdrums check out the previous video. I explained the whole deal there. But mainly it is tue weight. Huge defference in weight of ti and normal steel...
Not criticizing your work because it's great as usual, but why titanium? Other than being lite and rust resistant what advantages does it have? I would think for the price of titanium you could use a steel like s30v or D2. Especially putting carbide on the edge how often can you sharpen it/how long would it last?
@Tob3ster97 I disagree. Titanium is the strongest lightweight metal, but it's not by any means the strongest metal in the world. Tungsten and Inconel are both stronger than titanium but also heavier.
The high temperature generated during the cutting process also causes a work hardening phenomenon that affects the surface integrity of titanium, and could lead to geometric inaccuracies in the part and severe reduction in its fatigue strength.
@mafiajimmy eh, i dont think so. thats not a knife at all i think. i've seen that boker and also some other composite and plastic "knives"... they arent knives thou. they are literally just letter openers or shanks that you can only stab. even that only to a certain degree...
@gavkoo Yeah.. Your knives are user knives and I just wanted to ask you if you're planning to do a show piece out of CF :D I read carbon fiber takes a relative good edge but it dosen't hold it. CF knife is lightweight and designed to be a stabber and a last ditch option.
I think this shows the value of the blade very well. THIS IS A SPECIFIC PURPOSE WEAPON, not an all-in-one EDC knife. If you're grown up enough to care for your blades, then this is a valid test of the edge. It's NOT a box-cutter; it's NOT a camp knife; it's NOT a hardened edge. it IS a classic edged weapon. It has a specific purpose, and for that purpose, it works VERY well. The stabbing tests through the reinforced paper was a good indicator. Some slash tests through that same stuff will work!
i really really like the shape of the one with the scratch. i don't mind the scratch very much. are you maybe possibly able to sell it when your done testing??? i really want it, XD
Great video. TI didn't do that bad. THe beauty of a blde that looses sharpness faster implies it can be sharpned faster. I have a couple of D2 steel knioves and they are hard to sharpen, but htey last a long time.
How heavy is that blade? I bet it is a lot lighter than the other steels
