  • Dose anybody know if it's safe to delete .txt files off my pc. I'm asking because I have a total of 2gb .txt files and that would free up alot of space on my pc but I don't know if it's safe to do so and I can't find anywhere online if it's safe to do so.

  • thx

  • I like to use pspad because it has a built in ftp client as well. Thus it allows for script editing directly on your remote server. Check out how to download, install and use it via my channel.

  • gedit and vi and nano :D

  • vi = win

    nano = epic win

  • Programmer's File Editor

    All assembly. Loads 100MB text file in under a second.

    Epic win.

  • Yes, do all your PHP and Scripting with the cheapest tools you can find, spend years using the same non-extensible tools -- that way there is nothing new to learn or new capabilities to exploit.

    Just concentrate on the money you have saved and take pride in knowing you have every keyboard shortcut down pat.

    And dont worry, the day when we can just talk to the computer is just around the corner and we wont have to do all this silly text work.

  • i was using anyedit in windows before i moved to linux, where you can get the best editors ever.

  • does it highlight Zasm too?

  • It's called OpenOffice. Best Windows text editor ever.

  • notepad ++

  • The one that i like to use is Notepad ++ it works really great and its has highlighting and stuff.

  • notepad.exe

  • how is this a prank?

    you guys are just jealous of fred, Lucas Cruikshank is a genius.

  • Text Wrangler for OS X is the best. It has code coloring and you can write apple scripts to insert common HTML tags. It's pretty sweet.

  • good idea.

  • Good job Chris: who would know better about than an english major.

    I still looking for a text editor that will run on my old-manual-ibm typewritter (LOL).

  • Show Us How To Make An OS

  • So i take it this guy is pretty good at computers then?

  • KDE is awsome...

  • wtf? hes 35? he looks like some kid from a highschool or something.

  • What do you do to make your websites?(software ,writing it your self, est.

  • Google Docs FTW,

  • EditPad Lite

  • Use Notepad you idiot.

  • Google Docs FTW

  • notepad is the ultimate text editor

  • I like notpad, it's the only thing I miss on my mac

  • what about textedit?

  • but ie has formatting and what not

  • notepad ++ is way better

  • I really like emas on linux. When I looked at IE8 I noticed they added developer tools like those in Opera. Maybe they could just replace notepad with that. lol

  • Personally I still don't think there will be a good text editor for some time now. But this comes pretty dang close to what I would expect from good editors. IMO standalone editors for HTML/CSS, C++, Java, etc. work the best because of built in auto-complete features.

  • MAC:

    Commercial = Textmate

    Open Source = macvim

    Windows

    Commercial = Komodo, E-Text editor "Textmate clone".

    Open Source = emacs, vim , both are worth the learning curve if you going to use them for coding.

  • I use Notepad ++

  • NoteTab Pro

  • go to tiny url . com / christext for the online editor

  • textmate fool!

  • because there are computer without text editors

  • NOTEPAD++ FTW.

  • Dash Code or Dreamweaver for me.

  • I got Dreamweaver CS4

  • OSXs text edit program is surprisingly advanced!

  • NOTEPAD ++ pwns that all

  • pliz do another video about how to cook ramen! ahaha

  • on mac os x?? wat about uhhh, word? you know, from office mac... And uh maybe openoffice writer?

  • They're word processors, not text editors.

    How many people do you see coding with Word or Open office?

  • Sorry but dreamweaver is plenty for me

  • OMG, i hate your voice "Editorrrrrr"

  • editplus

  • Its like Notepad++ on windows. They just just make their own cross platform program, simple.

  • Throughout college when I wasn't using an IDE like Visual Studio, I used Crimson Editor for my programming needs. Absolutely wonderful text editor that has syntax highlighting for 16 types of files, tabbed browsing, you can create a project to group up text files together, macro recording and macro playback, it even prints with the syntax highlighted. For regular text editing it's got a spell checker and word wrap.

    Windows users, give this one a try, it's free.

  • GOOGLE DOCS FTW!

  • Would have thought a nerd such as yourself could get a good frame rate.

  • GOOGLE DOCS

  • Is there a "desktop app" text editor with session management like Firefox? Would be useful if it could restore sessions after the PC crashed, saving the open documents without manually having to save them first.

    Some text editors I tried are able to auto-save files, but one still has to save them under a filename first. Documents which have not been saved once are still lost in a crash.

  • I am just curious but if you use that website to edit code. can the web site track that code and or record it?

  • Notepad :P

  • why not use..... notepad?

  • Yes use notepad notepad is awesome.

  • Notepad+ <3

  • I feel used :(

  • well im using crimson editor, small and fast

  • wordpad and notepad are good enough for me whether I'm writing a writing a note or coding a webpage

  • why not put the links to your recommendations in the video description like other on u tube do???????

  • Probs with using a web based txt editor:

    - No file association in the OS

    - If the web goes down, your file disappears

    - Save generally has to be an explicit operation, rather than an automatic one

    - No possibility to index the file using a windows document indexing tool

  • EditPad Pro is probably the best software I've ver used. Does both plain text editing as well as programming, with syntax highlighting, folding paragraphs and other features you'd expect in dedicated programming environments. Google it, it's freakin' awesome.

  • I've been using EditPad Lite for the last 5 years. It does everything I need for simple editing.

  • Then you'll marry EditPad Pro. I'd used it for years and years, but what cinched it for me was when I had to compile what is probably the internet's biggest list of nouns. I copy/pasted the words from about fifty other online lists, told EditPad to delete all duplicates, used regex in the Search tool to remove plurals, and told it to sort the list in alphabetical order. For a 2,000 entry list, I don't know if you can get better than a finished compilation in three clicks.

  • Textmate?

  • I feel google docs is sufficient, even without syntax color coding.

  • i like notepad ++

  • Chris what are you doing up this late (early)?

  • 105!!!

  • Yeh I know.

    I had never done that before so just fet like it.

    Really good video Chris.

  • Noone cares. XD

    Great vid.

  • hahahah, or not!:D

  • Awesome vid Chris
