  • Friends brought me here

  • Is this like when the blacks say nigga my nigga?

  • The most emotional scene.

  • This is one of the best scenes in movie history

  • well this is a true work of art, is essential in your collection. of life. ( realmente es muy inspiradora esta obra saludos de mexico )

  • fucking chills...

  • Success isn't measured by how much money you have, how many mistresses you could fuck, how many cars you have, how big your house is... none of those things make you truly successful. These are shallow successes. The true, deeper successes that no one seems to notice or care about is inspiration, the success of being able to touch and inspire lives with the things you say or do. This John Keating fellow did exactly that, I just wish more people were like him, more people who can inspire others.

  • @mAwesome334

True. Also, it does not matter on which scale you operate, each to his given field. One can inspire through literature or music, other through teaching or being a proper parent. It also does not matter whether you can move masses or a few, what you do with your life and whether you try to learn and pass your knowledge, experience, virtues, is what makes you human in the positive sense of word.

  • Sad ending... :'(

  • im planning on doing this for my teacher who is about to leave

  • @Archvoidz You should totally do it

  • @CaptainSkeletor u noe wat? I will do it!!!

  • We watched this video today in my Video Productions class, me, my teacher, and another kid were the only three who stood on our desks during this scene.

  • i cried a lot during this movie

  • My Lit teacher told us that a few years ago on the last day of school, one of her old students stood up on his desk and recited "Oh Captain, My Captain" for her. She was very familiar with this movie, so you can imagine the honor she felt. I got butterflies when she told us, haha.

  • CARPE DIEM!

  • 57 people don't have a captain!

  • Best movie scene ever! :)

  • Goosebumps and tearsD:

  • Nuwanda was at home standing up too.

  • OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN!!!!!!!

  • trolololololololololoololol

  • All the pagers were ripped out"LOL"

  • I long for teachers to inspire my children this way...

  • Damn, gets me every time. A classic.

  • I saw this video today during English 11!

  • I saw this video today during English 11!

  • my class did this..for no apparent reason tho

  • Such a beautiful scene.

  • my English teacher is leaving tomorrow I should so do this in class

  • poindexters

  • This makes me wanna jump on my desk and yell "O Captain! My Captain!" but my school has no culture, so I would be suspended

  • @wingsforlife741 do it anyway

  • Jesus. Just cried like a little baby watching the end of this movie. Red wine may be the cause of it. But that doesn't stop the fact that this is one of the most emotional/best endings to any film ever. Right, enough of this feelings nonsense I'm gonna watch some porn now.

  • @fbeckett2 Absolutely great comment. Thanks

  • They stand on the desks, and finally, even the replacement teacher stands on a desk, so moved is he by their exhibition.

  • @garbageidiot No, he doesn't...

  • I'm watching this movie in my english class. At first I didn't like it. Now I think its amazing. Todd is the best character since I am kinda shy and because of this I am going to stop being shy when I talk in front of my class

  • up until this scene, I though this was a shit movie, ask me about it now, greatest movie of all time.

  • Did this in my high school English class during the last day of school since my teacher got fired. She cried. It was epic.

  • My favourite all time movie! This is the teacher I want to be!

  • I didn't cry when that kid died and I didn't cry when the parents found him but I cried at this scene and this scene alone...for hours. I truly understood the anger that was repressed by the kids in this film.

  • I don't care what you say. This for me is one of the most powerful scenes of all time.

  • Damn ginger, Cartman was right, ginger kids have no soul...

  • Goddammit, I well up just watching this scene alone, without even having to watch the rest of the movie.

  • 3:56 in the left of the screen you can see the blowing nose kid stand up and in the next take he´s sitting again

  • Who's the guy at 3:59??

    I have looked everywhere.. seriously!

  • 56 people can kiss my turkish ass...

    what is wrong with them!!

  • 56 people are descendants of Dr Pritchard

  • It's always about doing the right thing and not what people tell you, we live in a world of pompous fools who think everything is "Them & us" when of course it's just "we" Poetry is from the soul and heart you can't be taught it. If you mock real literature then you are the fool and the people who read your words will mock you, you are blinded by ignorance. If you can't see what this vid speaks then go watch "in the night garden" (brilliant piece thank you for sharing)

  • I Love How The Other Boys Are Worrying Then Stand On Their Desks With Pride.

  • O Captain my captain... ;')

  • I love how Mr. Keating looks like such a small little man at the end of scene, among the students that tower over him - he's one little person who has greatly influenced these young people and the future.

  • @hobpeeper

    exactly so.

    thorough and deep analysis.

  • if richard had decided to stand up in this scene, i would've pushed him off his desk.

  • 56 people didn't learn a thing.

  • slechte herinnering aan deze film, 2 uur verveling in de les #csw

  • if only charlie and neil was there..

  • i feel so sad about the nill's death!and i want to thx robin williams and tnx dead poem ....thx this moive!\

  • @guyinghilliesuit Same to you, friend.

  • The Dead Poets Society is the most inspiring movie I have ever seen, and it's ending is one of the greatest ever made. "O Captain! My Captain"

The boys learned to seize the day in the end.

  • 55 people never seized the day

  • the most magical film ever.

  • Greatest Send Off in Movie History

  • gary mitchell......captain my captain

  • And this is why gingers have no souls

  • @celebrei ...this is not the reason why gingers don't have souls.. Rather: this is a great example of how soulless they really are~

  • @celebrei hahaha! never expected to see that comment when i waltzed in here. hilarious! i friggin' love south park.

  • @celebrei this cracked me up. i love this movie one my top 5 faves.

  • @celebrei not all Gingers are like that. I felt very betrayed when I saw a fellow Ginger as a "mutineer to his captain".

  • Robin Williams is one of the best the actors of all time! Anyone who denies that is clinically insane.

  • Comment removed

  • There's no better ending possible. Such a magnificent ending for a magnificent film. Robin Williams found the role of his life, no doubt.

  • this is one of the most powerful movie endings of all time. Captain my captain!

  • Please....can someone tell me the name of the song, and where I can find it....that plays during the epic end of this film and during the credits. Someone let me know!!!!!

  • IN DEDICATION TO LUTHER EBERLY, 3RD GRADE CAPTAIN, WEST WARD ELEMENTARY, WABASH, I.N., 1980.S...

  • Still an endearing scene after all these years..

“You must strive to find your own voice… Because the longer you wait to begin.. the less likely you are to find it at all… “ - Prof. John Keating, DPS

  • the men from the boys

  • Oh Captain My Captain!

What a great ending to a great movie....

  • OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN <3

  • Haha I can imagine the old guy thinking "What kind of cult is this" Love this movie.

  • @365to173repubsPWNED homophobic derranged cunt

  • well, thanks to your comment,we now know a lot about you and it's not pretty, I tell ya!

  • "No matter what anyone tells you, words and ideas can change the world." In this scene, the boys chose not to 'conform' because of what their teacher said and did. Keating taught them to - literally - stand up for themselves and their individualistic beliefs. When he says 'thank you', he's thanking them not only for listening, but for letting him contribute a verse to THEIR play. He changed their lives. That is a honor and he realized that.

  • If I were in this class, I would do the same thing for a great teacher!

  • You never forget a great teacher....

  • I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.

    - John Steinbeck

  • I want a Mr. Keating for a teacher =')

  • Respect

  • i dont get it. why does he jsut saythank you. to me the movie didnt have that much of a point

    . help?

  • this scene makes me cry, im 42 years have seen this so many times, but its this scene. when they start standing on the tables. Awesome. O captain My Captain

  • For me proud face of Mr. Keating gives happy end. He reached and opened some minds.

  • omg. I have a teacher named ms.Keating!

  • @sarafritsch123 cool story bro

    Nobody gives a fuck

  • School 61 Warsaw - what happened?

  • shut up geezer

  • At 4:20, the student who didnt even like English or Poetry realized it was bullshit that Keating was fired was awesome. Just in the look in his eyes said :"you should be here, and it sucks that youre leaving"

  • "captain, my captain", it made me cry!

  • Mr. Anderson.

  • *knox

  • know overstreet... sooo cute

  • 840

  • touchig, one of the deepest movie I've ever seen. And I think Ethan Hawke in this film is absolutely amazing

  • 54 people are desks.

  • @Thorwaldsson I had to laugh at this

  • @Thorwaldsson

    LOL

    (56 now)

  • Just watched this in english class, truly a masterpiece, and i couldnt beliece it ended where it did. It could have gone on, but thatnis a story for another time.

  • ...then they were all kicked out of school and became taxidrivers

  • There is really no accounting for some. It is one thing if you do not enjoy or like the movie. It is quite different when all you can offer up is a bastardized version of not only an ignorant opinion, but a very uncultured, unread, uninspired one. "TheSaywhat2000," and "orlin258," put down the magazines, and pick up a book. That is free advice. You are welcome!

  • This movie turned me onto uncle Walt.. a brilliant poet and man.

  • omg this movie is soooooooooooo boring.... I finally finished it today

  • @TheSaywhat2000 omg you are soooooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid!

  • DUDE WHAT THE FUCK SI THIS CRAP NO ONE WNATS TO SEE 5 minutes OF BULLSHIT im just here for the line

  • I had a teacher like him, but he died in a motorcycle accident on crack

  • o captain! my captain!

  • I had a teacher once that reminded me a lot of Mr. Keetings. He was an incredible teacher. Just felt I should say that. :)

  • I love how this film is about anti conformity but at the end most of the kids conform by standing on their desks because they see the other kids do it. Good movie though.

  • @theangrybubble the boys wanted to stand on their desks once one boy done it the rest found the courage

  • lmao dead poets in 3d

  • @claireju1991 you can try seeing if your local video store, like BlockBuster has it (if you need it right away), but if you don't, you can try the website Amazon.com, and getting it shipped to you this week or sometime soon

  • They don't make movies like this anymore.. Dead Poets in 3D?? I think not.

  • @brantleyfoster5115 well, if you only pay attention to Hollywood then no, but films as good as this are made all the time, you just have to pay attention. Also, Peter Weir has made a number of amazing films since this one, you should check them out.

  • @adamlunatone You are right about good movies being made all of the time. For me though, movies are not an objective thing, but rather a personal experience and there is a big difference between a good or even great movie and one such as this that transformed me.

  • They don't make movies like this anymore.. Dead Poets in 3D??

  • O Captain! My Captain!

  • This is by far my favorite movie of all time, I hope they never make a remake because this movie is so great by itself. So many great things about this movie including in the script, acting, direction, etc.

  • Greatest ending to a movie ever and William's greatest and most under-appreciated roles.

  • @robocoastie This is true. My all-time favourite film. Superbly written, acted and directed. Robin Williams finest achievement, alongside Good Morning, Vietnam. Peter Weir's direction on this was first rate. Each and every cast-member played their parts extremely well. This is a film to get deeply engrossed in and to savour. The scene after Neil's suicide, where Todd runs through the snow, screaming "Neilllllllll" is one of the most powerful scenes in this film.

  • @robocoastie Underappreciated role? He was nominated for the oscar!

  • @Dockelektro How could he have lost the oscar then? This is one of his best performences!

  • Absolutely magnificent!

  • 3:59

Holy shit, is that the guy from Troll 2?

  • @BiGRiCeD I think so.

  • the only time a movie scene has given me goose bumps

Oh captain, My captain! Ethan Hawke is great here, I raised from my laying position screaming to him to stop being a pussy and when i finally saw his shoes on the table i raised my fist yelling VICTORIOUS VICTORIOUS!!!

  • I was lucky enough to have a teacher like Mr. Keating. I would have walked through fire for him. We definitely need more of them in the US.

  • 53 people did not get expelled for standing on their desks and saluting Mr. Keating.

  • Fifty three people can't think for themselves; they'd rather conform :)

  • I've watched grown men cry during this scene. It was kind of hard to see though because I was crying as well.

  • One of my all-time favorite movies EVER!

  • As I walked out the class on the last day of my highschool I couldn't help but shed a tear for he was one of those teachers who went past the teacher. He befriended his students and he inspired me to continue writing.

  • In all my years of being in school the one teacher who stands out in my mind is my English teacher who was also my Writer's craft teacher. He truly was amazing. The best and always will be the best teacher anyone can ever asked for. This happened to also be one of the movies he loved the most and he showed it to us in class. He is the pure definition on how a teacher should be. When I watch this scene I dedicate it to him, and the memory of him is there forever. He leaves that impression on all.

  • I love this movie, this scene especially, but I can't help but think how awkward of a shot the one of Todd at the end is. Still one of my favorite movies.

  • One of my favorites!

    Oh captain my captain.

  • an ofcourse... the ginger without a soul chose to stay seated

  • @DalleKanelius Never trust a stupid soulous ginger he probley has ginger vidous

  • Captain my Captain!!!!!

  • one of the best movie endings

  • "I'm standing up for you, Mr. Keating! Even though I ratted you out and cost you your job....I'll just sit back down."

  • We are fortunate that the writer of the movie, Tom Schulman, went to a school similar to Welton and had a teacher named Mr. Pickering, who inspired him the way Mr. Keating does in the film.

  • My high school English teacher got me into this movie. If there were any teachers in my high school that are like Mr. Keating, it would definately my english teachers, Mr. MacDonald and Mrs.Weissberg. May they both continue to be great teachers.

  • 每次睇都很感動!

  • Doesn't this reflect society in general. If you know somebody, ask yourself would he/ she have the guts to stand on the table? Most people unfortunately are followers who would just sit down and "stay under the radar".

  • name of that song ?

  • " O Captain My Captain! "

One of the greatest movies of all time!

  • Comment removed

  • I love how Robin Williams says "Thank You Boys Thank You."

  • When someone for a random reason says gayest movie ever, I think in this one

  • unbelievable!!the idol of the ideal teacher...something that i really miss..someone to inspire you without pushing down on students..love this film i really do!

  • Gets me everytime this scene!, What a movie!.

  • @freereg29 because of the setting of the movie. the school that they're at is a white upper-class private school in the 80's.

  • @UnReaLgeek no madafaka u fakin white trash madafaka get some coal on yo body so you feel what we fele madaFAKA

  • @freereg29 Are you living in the past or being consumed by it? Being black does not give you the right to be racist. Go see a psychiatrist.

  • @UnReaLgeek - it's set even earlier than that - the 1950s.

  • @freereg29 die nigger

  • I love the respect they show to Robin Williams in the end it made me cry I thought it was touching

  • Thank you for renaming this part of the movie. It is a scene that shouldn't be blocked! It's one of the best endings!

  • Tears came out of my eyes after seeing this. It is one of if not the most inspirational movies I have ever seen in my life. Even now after watching it countless times, I still get tears to my eyes.

  • I wish i saw this when i was younger

  • Thank you for the ending of the movie. All the other videos made for the ending were blocked. Maybe they need to rename it just like you. It's one of the BEST endings to a movie! You can't leave it out.

    Great job!

  • This movie is awesome and it get me to tears every time.

Its a life manual and its wonderful piece of art

  • Great Movie!
