  • It is sad watching recent live shows of Fuel as it is clear that Brett's voice is very damaged but I respect him massively for continuing to do what he loves despite his deterioration over time. This however is a wonderful performance. Love this band and I'm sure I always will.

    Rock on Fuel!

  • this video is edited because as you can see at 1:15 he's bearly singing and it sounds like he's yelling.

  • Not Toryn Green straight up sucks!

  • Ive noticed carl's guitar has been louder than brett's in every other live version of this song ive seen. I like this version the best

  • lol, i find his voice fucked up hear...i think that version that Toryn Green has on youtube kicks ass.

  • @atrickpay11 Not everyone can sing perfect everytime. I think this sounds good. You should watch the MTV performance. So glad Toryn Green is gone.

  • love dis song :D

  • i respect these guys they put their soul into their music

  • Rock stars don't lip sync, pop tarts do because they can't sing for shit!

  • I hate his hair like this and that ugly moustache. He looks so much hotter clean shaved with long hair. Oh yeah, and as for the song, it's my favourit Fuel song :)

  • 3:43 EPIC!!!!!

  • Damn, he looks so toasted here!

  • holy mustache

  • Wow talk about giving it everything you got Brett definitely pushes his limits:)

  • If you don't sing, you can't really appreciate how well he landed this performance. When your voice is dead, it wants to crack and go hella flat. To push it back to pitch without going sharp, play guitar without fucking up due to tensed muscles, and still being able to focus on stage presence, takes so much musician- and showmanship. Bravo Brett.

  • I just love how he goes into the 2nd verse. U can tell by his facial expression that he knows he owns the stage then he sings the verse almost perfectly anyway this is my fav live version!!

  • Who the fuck suggested that this could be lip-syncing? Are you kidding me?

  • so a beautiful song

  • Damn..it's obviously not lip-syncing...that's pure voice..!!

  • hey men i dont think this is lip synching, coz why do he have to lip synch the easy part and scream his lungs out on the hard parts of the song!hehe, fuel without one of the original band isnt fuel, the best band ever men!hopefully new updated videos of the band come out soon!peace out guys!

  • He tries harder and despite the accident still sounds better than anyone these days...we need more bands like this to come back.

  • 0:57 he sounded like he did back in 2000 for a very short moment.

  • Yes singing like that night after night and tour after tour will wear the voice and no its ot lip syncing.

  • His voice has recovered very well since this performance, back and pretty strong imo

  • Anybody think what happened to Brett's voice and Liam Gallagher's voice are strikingly similar (both pre and post voice loss)??

  • im a singer and i used to sing songs like this all the time...and what happens is sometimes your voice dies on you then one day your force too hard and break a vocal chord. we may never know what brett did to his voice but he is still an awesome musician...and im glad hes fronting the new version of fuel

  • @shawmps2009 What happened to yours... because I have been a lead singer for 10 years and my voices gets weaker, and weaker as I go on, grunting or even a loud moan is hard for me now.

  • @shawmps2009 totally agree with you there....the new material sounds great btw

  • age plays a big role in every singer's voice. just like STEVE PERRY who eventually gave up his singing career.

Brett must have been beat during this performance, but still, Brett kicks ass in all of his songs =) LIVE performances like these always rocks!

  • Great performance. Brett is better live than he is recorded and that's hard to find today. I'm glad Brett is back and Fuel is recording some new stuff. I just wish that Brett, Carl, Jeff, and Kevin could all get back together one more time.

  • Most popular rock bands have shitty singers live but Brett kicks ass live, aint nobody's voice perfect

  • Great Live Version... my favorite.

  • Brett sounds a little rusty but still good

  • i prefer fuel without carl bell than without brett scallions, at least he will make his own fuel. hopefully he doesnt change the styl

  • @86dcrozchris

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a FUEL without Bell just a cover band? He was the principle song writer.

  • @v2freak: hard to say yes, hard to say no...

  • @v2freak you have your point, yeah the main song writer was Bell because he didnt want brett to write his own stuffs but no singer has the style and emotions that Scallions has. He has to be in fuel, without his voice there is no fuel. he can write his own stuffs, thats my point.

  • i prefer fuel without carl bell than without brett scallions, at least he will make his own fuel. hopefully he doesnt change the style

  • Dayum shame :\

i hear his voice is getting better

  • Probably a little of both, the accident and constant touring affected his voice. And it's quite obvious that Brett is using a backing track for his vocals throughout the song. Nothing to be ashamed of there. Tonnes of vocalists do. Brett is the man. Absolute legend

  • Listen between 1.15 and 1.30 is definite lip-syncing. Now I'm a massive scallions fan, and can't stand Toryn, but I'm not going to deny what's clearly evident hear. 1.15-30 is pre-recorded, listen to his voice change afterwards.

  • this is the best perfomance of fuel hemmorhage in my hands ever

  • its not lip syncing bcuz yu can still hear imperfections in his voice

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry but by this point he wasnt singing alot. He had alot of help from backing tracks

  • 1:15 to 1:19 ... he nails it perfect. fuel kicks ass!

  • @DGerichten

because he was lip synching from 1:15 to 1:30 you can hear his voice change back.

  • @TheCmvick

    you're right, total lip syncing.

  • eddie vader may have sounded closer their studio tracks, but he doesnt even hold a candle to brett scallions or layne stanly as far that era of rock, the only reason vader and cobain were so known is because they were some first well known singers and easily recognisable to that era, other then they weren't really great compared to alternative rock,grunge,post-grunge artists

  • even here in the rubble and aftermath the stress and damage to his voice, here in this proformace and he still and will always remain as the most passionate and soulfull and most devoted singers of the 1990s-2000s era,

  • luv Brett forever

  • It must be tough for this brett to sing this song with his voice problems

  • who in their right mind would think he was lip syncing? 1:58 his voice falters a little. you don't fake that. some people just need attention so they act like idiots online.

  • who in their right mind would think he was lip syncing?

  • @figgenss I just came across this footage and saw the comments. I can honestly tell you there was no lipsynching involved. I know because I was at this show. It was at the EMP in Seattle WA as part of the Sony/Ericcson VH1 concert series a couple days before their album Natural Selection came out. I was standing just behind the camera in the audiece. I remember wanting to smack the cameraman because he kept moving in front of me and blocking my view every 30 seconds or so.. Still a great show.

  • @afterpiratelife I see

  • @figgenss I agree.....I really think this is not lip-sanc....Certain parts of this song are hard to do, others are easy...you can tell the hard parts...the easy parts sound like he's lipsyncing because he was that good.

  • Lip syncing happens at the following times: 0:59, 1:15, 1:21, 1:27 between 1:30 and 1:32, it Blends vocal from studio recording, to live vocal from Brett's voice from the microphone. Between 1:36 - 1:40, the same, except reversed. Between 1:40 - 1:44, Consists of the studio recording, However, (Leave me to myself), consists of live vocal. There is a lot more I could point out for you, but I can't be bothered to.

  • @GooFan15 I love people like you. Can't be bothered even then they're wrong. I know exactly how all this works considering my job is Music. I'm not gonna argue with you or say anythng other than this. The Sky Church which is where this took place isn't very big. Its acoustics are some of the best in the world and I WAS PHYSICALLY at the show, so don't try to come across to me like a musical genius when you have no clue because YOU WEREN'T PHYSICALLY THERE.

  • @afterpiratelife

Yeah, whatever man. But you're "physically" tone deaf. Just because you were apparently at this performance (which I sincerely doubt), doesn't change the fact that he's clearly lip syncing and that you're in denial. It's so damn obvious. And it has occurred to me that you're a hypocritical douche bag when you say that I'M the musical genius when you're clearly trying to talk down to me by trying to sound just as professional as what I did.

    YOU'RE IN DENIAL! Faggot.

  • @GooFan15 Trying to talk down to you??? I don't need to talk down to you for everyone to see how much of a low life you are. Calling me childish names... yup thats low life alright. What's even more hilarious is the fact your still wrong!!! lmao. Your not worth talking to any further.. Goodbye.

  • @GooFan15 1 last thing... If its such a BOTHER then why say anything in the first place? Your comment makes it sound like your above everyone.

  • @afterpiratelife

And another thing, Did you completely forget one of the main reason as to why people upload videos to this website? Their uploaded and shared on the internet so that people can critisise whether it be friendly or not. Also to enjoy and ALSO to place judgement. I some what respect you're judgement but at the very littlest, but I still stand by what I have said. So, FUCK YOU

  • They blend the studio vocals with the live vocals by gradually lowering the volume from the microphone but at the same rate, raising the volume for the studio vocals which is obviously coming out from the same speaker system.

  • @afterpiratelife being at the show is the hardest to tell. I was at the fuel show at voodoo fest in 03'. Brett sounded great in person but then when I watched the footage fuse taped it was like wow he sounded bad. Old band members have come out and said Brett was lip syncing on the natural selection tour which this was at the same time

  • woow he really forces his voiicee A LOT here

  • @ElvishSpirit No, he's not lip syncing.

  • This isn't even nearly as good as the studio version. I've studied it and I don't hear any lip sync. I'm not sure how they would even do that. Lip sync a few seconds and then sing, and then lip sync again for a few seconds? It makes no sense.

Anyway, I love Fuel. Brett needs to stop destroying his vocal chords though. It's bad enough with the aftermath of his injury from the Shimmer tour.

  • Great performance of this song Fuel rocks.

  • To shutup the argument once and for all, I closely listened to every single note Brett does, and most of it IS live, given these 2 parts-

1:16 - 1:25 is without a doubt lip synced. Look into it, the vocals there are the EXACT recording in the studio version. Brett rarely duplicates his vocals to the exact.

    1:25 - 1;32 MAY be, I'm not to sure.

2:48-2:53 is without a doubt lipsynced too for the same reason.

But the rest seems pretty untouched.

  • @ElvishSpirit uh... that did not end the argument, that is just your opinion. I don't hear it, It sounds different from the album version, and you say he's never sounded that close but there is a first time for everything. Some performances are better than others and this one is different and one of the better ones. Just cause there the best band ever when it comes to performing live does not mean he is lip syncing. He clearly is not. But that is just how I see it.

  • The crowd is lip syncing!

  • @figgenss He is clearly not lip syncing. It sounds a lot different than any other version. If he is lip syncing he would have had to have recorded leading up to this so what would be the point? He messes up a lot so why would have left that in there? And you can just see his mouth matching it perfect. If he was gonna lip sync he would have made it sound more closer to the album version. Sorry but I don't agree with you on that. Thanks for the upload btw.

  • His voice sounds awful in this, would i be right in saying its after his surgery? You can tell. Not good.

  • Comment removed

  • You're an idiot if you think he is lip syncing.

  • most rock singers couldnt cover this song that well. But wouldnt it be cool to have seen Brett cover Back in Black when he was at his prime? Or an Alice in Chains song.

  • I really don't think he was lip syncing in this performance. His voice cracks as various points in the song, and it would be nearly impossible to set up a vocal loop to come in at only certain and multiple points. This is where he started to lose his voice...but he still had it for this performance.

  • fuck i wish he would just get his god damn voice back

  • pure raw awesomeness...

  • I spy Mrs. scallions @ 1:48!!! Abbey is a dime :). Brett is the man. Stellar ending!!

  • bahahaha i cant believe some people think hes lip syncing..... what the fuck are you on?????

  • 3:37 to 3:50 Brett is just fucking amazing!!!!!! \m/!

  • 3:44 to 3:47! Thats fucking epic! Brett is fucking amazing for that! An Amazing ending to this peformance

  • i also think that this is their best peformance of this song! You Can see it in bretts face that it hurts him when he has to sing the hard parts! Damn it sucks that he doesnt have that amazing voice anymore!! Even in the end of this peformance when they're heading backstage they all look hayy and excited but he doesnt! damn this sucks! WE MISS YOU BRETT!!!

  • I also think that this is the best peformance of this song as well! They also have the drummer singing the chorus!

  • damn u can see it in his face that it hurts him when he starts singing the real hard parts! Damn brett we miss you though! And when they're walking to the backstage area you can see that all the band members are excited and happy and had fun but when they show brett he just looks normal doesnt even look happy!

  • damn u can see it in his face that it hurts him when he starts singing the real hard parts! Damn brett we miss you though! And when they're walking to the backstage area you can see that all the band members are excited and happy and had fun but when they show brett he just looks normal doesnt even look happy!

  • Kinda sad to hear him destroy his voice in their hit song.

  • This is probably my favorite live version. And I don't believe he's lip-syncing mainly because you can hear him cutting notes short and straining his voice in this one. Raw and awesome.

  • @NytestrykerZ

He lip syncs the entire thing from 0:59 and up. Listen to the studio version and compare it to this, they're identical. The only part he doesn't lip sync is the "Leave love bleeding in my hands" section. The interlude is also not synced.

  • @Johnny1154 Not lip synching... sorry man but YOU'RE WRONG...... again..

  • He is not lip syncing losers. Maybe you're all jealous because you don't have half the talent that he does. The guy has an amazing vocal range and a talent to use it. It's a shame he's not will fuel anymore.

  • @MsPrintmaster

Or maybe your just a hardcore fuel fan who is in denial who refuses to believe the truth and should accept the truth.

  • @MsPrintmaster Im affraid he is, Just on te second Verse. Its identical to the recorded version This is when he was having lots of problems with his voice. You listen to how he cant hold a note very well? He's still my favorite singer

  • @MsPrintmaster Im sorry, he is. Just on the second verse. listen carefully. This is around the time when his voice was going. Listen to the live videos of falls on me, taken from tv shows. hes miming for ost of the songs. Its not his fault. he just couldnt sing anymore

  • @markstrugnell Yea dude your right he is. But who cares the music is great and am jst happy to still have a talented person like Brett Scallion on this planet still. We still love you Brett. AND YOU OWN THIS SONG.

  • god it sounds like a horse dieing!!! :((( he did lip sink some of it because the original singer kicked his ass and he couldnt match up to the greatness of Brett Scallions!

  • Comment removed

  • this is the original singer...

  • @MrSlashguitar93

    this is brett scallions dude

  • Comment removed

  • He's not lip syncing for the entire performance, but for the difficult parts he is.

  • @GooFan15 yeah its obvious lol and all the parts he didnt lip sync were obvious

  • @MrSlashguitar93

I thought so too, you can clearly hear the live vocals cross fade with the studio vocals and vice versa.

Glad your not tone deaf like a lot of other people on here..

  • seems like the whole second verse is studio vocals

chorus is all him the first time you can hear him digging for notes

  • To all that seem to "know" he is lip synching here, LISTEN to the vocals... they do not sound like the studio recording- they sound hoarse and off... why would he lip synch to a poor recording??? You people are full of shit. Jesus, let it go.

  • I am not sure if it was the nose accident that screw up his voice, but singing high vocal songs almost every day do something with your voice after a long time...

  • @figgenss If I'm correct, the original Fuel line-up is back together minus Carl Bell. Not sure if it's true or not, but he supposedly has a cocaine issue... sad. Anyway, they're actually on tour right now. I just saw footage of them a couple days ago. It kind of threw me off because Kevin wasn't drumming. i was unaware that he wasn't their original drummer lol.

  • @figgenss I'm sure the WAY he performed for his fans had something to do with it. He never wasted his god-given voice, trust me.

  • @figgenss I respectfully disagree. If your vocal technique is correct and you take care of yourself, you can sing high vocal songs every day and be fine (with getting sick as an exception, of course). Brett's problem is his vocal technique was never correct. However, this was part of where the rasp in his voice came from, so I guess it's a blessing and a curse that he chose to sing this way.

I saw Fuel live last saturday and they were AWFUL. AW-FUL. He can't sing anymore unfortunately.

  • @HBlatz87 Damn....i'm gonna see them today.

  • @HBlatz87 I saw them today.....TOTALLY FUCKING ROCK!!! Powerful all around performance by all of the Fuel lineup!!!

  • @fuelhemi426 really?

Either they had a really great night when you saw them, or a really off night when I saw them.

  • @HBlatz87 yo bro "AWFUL" i respectfully disagree with that...yes his voice isn't what it used to be but he still sounds great...ahhhh just another hater

  • that nose surgery/reconstuction was his downfall.. he used to have "THE voice" but that accident sure did mess it up!

  • To all those questioning the lip singing.. look at Brett's facial expression as he walked of stage at 4:49 at the end of the clip .. As a musician myself.. you are your own worst critic .. and that really says it all about his performance..

He probably could hit it again with some vocal training for sure... but I believe he did definitely lipsing parts it for sure and it probably wasn't his choice from his expression...

  • when was this?

  • damm poor guy, his voice was pretty much fucked at this point.

  • He always wanted the best for the fans

Brett will always be my favorite singer!

  • he is not lipsync´n... here, he is just destroying whatever vocalcords he had left... damn this guy is good !!!

  • He definetly IS lip syncing various parts of it.

Its pretty damm obvious to anybody who knows anything about how this kind of thing works.

His voice was completely shot by this time, and you can easily tell where the track is played over his vocals on this video.

  • and at @GooFan15...im not trying to argue with u at all if u read this but i really dont see lip syncing, i mean idk maybe i am tone deaf but i seriously dont see it i mean sometimes when a vocalist is singing and loses his voice sometimes he can regain bits of his old voice during a song if he digs deep or is just having an adrenaline rush

  • @willardmachinedean yeah dude i agree with u i seriously dont see or hear lip syncing and im in a band myself and i aint tone deaf if u move ur mouth a LITTLE bit away from the mic ur still gonna hear singing...ur mouth doesnt have to be touching the microphone to sing

  • Put me down in the non-lip synched camp. He sounds about half as good as was pre-2003, when he had one of the greatest rock voices ever.

  • who cares if he is lip syncing or not that was awesome =)

  • I mean look, For example, from 1:36 - 1:38 "Over and over and over again, she cries, Your hearing live vocals fading out into the studio track.. It's so obvious. Besides, When he moves his mouth away from the mic @ 2:18 "Ya' never even tried" there is not decrease in volume in his voice.. When you pay attention to something live that on a live video, That's one way you can tell that a vocalist is lip syncing.

  • This is so interesting to watch, this must of been during the time when Brett started having major problems with his vocal cords... From 0:57, the lip syncing kicks in.. To have been blessed with an incredible gift only to have it taken away would be the worst feeling ever..

  • @GooFan15 Ummm... doubt dude. He aint lip synching on this song... at least not this one. his voice was shot but not totally gone yet.

  • @willardmachinedean

Look guys, I don't want to start a big ol' youtube argument here, But you definately have to be tone deaf or something if you cant tell that he's lip syncing starting from 0:57... Basically they have a set up through the PA system or whatever, which will fade out his live voice, and then the studio vocals will fade in, creating a blending effect where is pretty much just continues on from where he stops singing live, then once the easier parts come in, he sings them live.

  • @willardmachinedean

His 100% definetly was. Come on dude, watch after 0.57. Its plainly obvious.

  • Brett, we miss you man!

  • @geetahplayer brett is back!

  • What year was this, 03 or so?

  • Not really sure, but think its around there

  • @SippRider89 Fall of 2003 viewed on VH1

  • It's sad that on-stage accident caused the demise of his voice... but it's gone.. the surgery changed the way he sang, and in doing that changed the way he sounded... such a sad deal but still, this is one heartfelt performance!

  • do have quarter from the same performance???????please upload it if you do!!

  • Sorry. Only have this :/

  • sad...really sad.

  • I've seen it on here

  • type in: Quarter- NFSU... it's on here. Bad ass too

  • thanks a lot.

  • This is a fantastic performance. It's gotta be so hard to lose something that was your big money maker. Tough for him to have gone out to those shows knowing he was gonna have a hard time, but he does a really good performance here.

  • Okay, this was on VH1, so how does one get a copy of it on DVD? It would be great if it was easy to contact them but if it's not Kayne West they don't seem to care. HELP!

  • great performance, love brett. He still sounds amazing here.

  • This is a good performance. But it's nothing compared to what they were doing in the mid to late 90's. Brett still sounds great in this. But to me he doesn't sound as good. But Fuel with Brett as the lead singer live, no matter what, no matter when, is still the best live band and band period of all time.
