  • Without compromising the offbeat blend of Kenny Clarke, has been rather inspiring!

  • The best with Dex is "Swiss nights" all 3. And the most with NHØP (with Tete M is a +).

  • Dexs is puting it down.

  • I recently had scrapple for the first time (in Philly). Loved it, and love Dex & co.

  • I don't know what Dexter was on, but his solo was inspired.

  • @custardapple777 I completely agree. Dex was coming with it on this whole album!

  • "OUR・MAN・IN・PARIS"のデクスター・ゴードンとバド・パウエル"ScrappleFromTheApple"~朴訥デクスターがいつになく快調! #jazzm

  • Our Man In Paris is a real masterpiece. The best record of Gordon.

  • is this cool jazz, swing or bebop??

  • @somasa2010 Bebop.

  • @somasa2010 It's a perfect example of bebop, the language is very idiomatic. Dexter is amazing - despite playing it at a blinding speed, he still manages to swing the notes.

  • Grande dexter!

  • @musicalgamingathlete That's what she said

  • plays it too fast to really pronounce the intricacies and pleasantries of the song

  • I love Gordon's sound on his sax. Sounds very raspy, like a bulldog, barking out those notes. I am trying to acheive that sound on my sax. Great post, thanks for the beautiful music!

  • @musicalgamingathlete You'll never get it on a crappy Yamaha or some other crappy asian horn. For starters u need a big bore vintage tenor made of heavy gauge, cartidge-quality brass to get that sound.

  • Este é uma das melhores versões de "Scrapple From The Apple" na interpretação fabulosa, na batida do hardbop pelo Dexter Gordon , saxternorista de mão cheia,um dos expoentes deste instrumento

  • cool

  • amazing

  • Bud Powell!

  • the ending is so fukin beautiful wow

  • You can really hear the influence of Dexter on Trane's playing...

  • i dont know i kind of liked bird's version a little bit better.

  • @jadzn1 I too like Bird's versions better, but Bird and his followers are in different categories sort of. My "best" or "better" type of judgement is referring to sound quality, length of solo, and bebop advances made by his "students." Hard Bop was the most advanced bebop, I think, and it is still being performed by today's players. 'Cool School" is still around too, and Parker did that sometimes too.

  • The best version of Scrapple From The Apple, by Charlie Parker, ever done by anyone. Dexter G. and Stanley T. and Sonnys, Rollins and Stitt, oh my.

I shouted "Scrapple from the apple" at Stan Kenton when he and his "Wall of Sound" played here in @ 1976, and wow did I get a dismissive look from him: no requests were good requests to him I guess, ouch on me! Bird may have died just before he was going to have a gig with Stan, I only recently learned.

  • Thanks for the great comment!

  • @pvelectric - or maybe he was dismissive because you were shouting at him.

  • @postbop my behavior was like a punk mother fucker, i severely regret it.
