  • In july I tried to get a stalker warrant for a man who was pestering me on the internet, trying to get some family info on my daughter. Austin PD refused to allow me to file a routine complaint that would have provided a warrant on record for this man. Austin officer A. told me "just don't read email" and refused to look at the email he sent, which was an obituary of a murder victim.

In August, about three weeks after this conversation, my daughter was found dead in another state.

  • in tn police are giving a under the table bonus when they make there quota on arresting blacks its been going on for years and black people know about it but stand by and do nothing about it.to become a tn police officer all you need is proof of a divorce from your cousin or sister and a 3grd.education and be able to lie in court and make false reports but the most important thing is be a good standing member of the KKK that is mandatory know exceptions so come on and sign up YOU WILL BE PROUD

  • APD has to be the rated number 1 in violating the civil rights of the Austin civilians. They are an embarrassment to the city of Austin. These guys (Pittman) act like this is IRAN. They will do whatever it takes in order to make their arrest record look better !

  • We are Austin Copwatch. a group of citizens who have become tired of the constant police misconduct and brutality that is rampant not only here in Austin, but around the country. We think it would be a good idea to pull our resources and work together on projects such as yours. What do you think?

  • so the cop that was talking to my lady came in my room and told me to put my hands behind my back and so i was asking them what did i do,and the cops started to wrestle me, to make the story short i went to jail for nothing and it's hard for me to get a good job and when i do get on a job they treat me different because of my family violent charge , just wanted to put my story out there really not enough room for my whole story, but something has to be done with these kind of cops in a,tx

  • Abought five years ago me and my girl friend got into an argument in our apartment here in austin,tx , well i felt that things was getting worse and tried to leave, well i called the cops so they could watch me leave,so when the cops came to our apartment i was in my room getting my belongings ready well one of the cops went to my room where i was and the other with my girl on the front porch ,and the cop with my girl told her if you dont say he hit you im taking you to jail & kid to cps.nscn...

  • LETS PUT THE VIOLENT COPS IN JAIL WITH A TATOO ON THEIR FOREHEAD WHO SAYS, "I AM A VIOLENT COP"

omg what a great picture hehehe...

  • @alfons00p cops go out and look for trouble they try to pick on poor blacks and whites because they know that they have know $ and are scared to speak up for themselves one way of getting rid of bad cops is to fire them if they are found guilty of violating police policy or the law know second chance i believe that would help or put more of them in jail when they do break the law instead of a paid vacation when there on suspension.cops do lie and make false reports and there chiefs know they do

  • Bottom line, sue the individual who is causing the problem, prosecute the individual who causing the problem and get rid of the chief...There is a law coming into effect where cops cannot touch you anymore or is considered an assault....All they have to worry about police is making sure that they stand clear of any harm, but if they touch from now on they will pay huge amounts of money

  • fuck these texas cops....

  • A friend was pulled over in March of this year for her light was too dimmed. Then he had her do a sobriety test but she refused and ask to take to jail but instead he persuaded her doing it anyway. She got too close and bummed into him and he claimed she was trying to grab his penis. She was hand-cop behind her back and forced toward his car.He was hurting her arms, she twitched, the cop then swung her down face first into the pavement knocked her out.She woke up in ER looks like she got in a wreck

  • either you like the APD or you dont or maybe you just dont care. But the truth is, APD is the fourth most investigated police force in the Nation. Thats enough to say something is wrong.

  • You play ,you pay going for a gun or cell phone? Did you learn anything? Get the hell off the street you caused the problem by being there.

  • The end of the world is coming.

  • @windovescry their is NO end of the world that is full of shit LIES

  • I do think somthing needs to be done about this kind of thing but PD is far from being the worste in Texas.

  • not the worst but a burning example of police corruption. The worst one(s) in texas are the really small departments...10 officers or less.

  • I live in Austin and anyone who thinks APD are the most rascist in Texas must be stupid or a lying. If you think its bad here go live in Houston or anywhere in East Texas. Im no saint and APD has always been vary reasonalble with me. There are always gonna be a few bad apples on the force.

  • Any time a gun is drawn and pointed at a subject, anytime a Taser is pointed at a subject, anytime an ASP or pepper spray is deployed it is a reportable use of force incident. Anytime a subject gets a bump, bruise, cut, scrape, scratch, kissable accident, or booboo an officer has to report is as a use of force incident. And if ANYONE honestly believes that police officers "cover up" a use of force situation, well I think you've been watching way too many cop movies.

  • Fuck your procedure, I live in austin which is the most racists police force in the state. Is unloading 6 rounds into a helpless person part of the prodedure, is shooting a person in the back while on the ground part of the procedure? Most cops are not real men, they have a false sense of manhood with suprememe power. Take that badge off, and he is half the man he thinks he is!

  • And I'm sure youre the type of criminal that has big balls once he's in handcuffs. You have never done the job so you have no right to comment on what type of people police officers are. And as for the shootings you people so fanatically love to bring up, get your information from somewhere other than the media, which spins it for ratings.

  • First off, I'm no criminal. And yes, I have been around police officers exclusivly on a day to day basis and I know what type of people they are. Most of you dickheads are pshycologically insecure people. You were probaly a shell of a man in highschool and needed to be a cop to fill in your insecurity as a man.

  • Amazingly no, again you have been misinformed. I'm not gonna argue the fact that there are some cops that are like that, but they are usually the jackasses that get caught, get fired, and get jailed. You cannot judge an entire profession off the just the idiots. It would be like judging an entire race off a few bad apples. Wow sounds kind of like racism, are you a racist?

  • Who said I was judging an entire proffession off just the few that get presented to the media as using uneccessary force? I'm not gonna argue with someone who is not smart enough to analyze a paragraph.

  • "Fuck your procedure, I live in austin which is the most racists police force in the state." Judging? Ok I'll concede, not an entire profession just about 1300 cops in a town. Oh yes you're right..sorry for not being able to analyze a paragraph.

  • I have to say this. I never get involved in debates like this because the only resource that most people use is the media, which is the most biased form of information there ever was created. But I digress. As far as the point made about use of force incidents are only reported when there is a complaint that is simply an ignorant statement. Any form of force used on a subject is required to be reported.

  • fuck the apd the mo fuckers.one day it will be there day??

  • What happens when the camera is not there? Or when the officers turn the Dash Camera off. If people were only being beaten, I'm sure the outrage would be so deafening... But people are being KILLED... BEFORE they've been determined by due process to be a criminal... Really Mama think about what you're saying. Be a part of the solution.

  • They organized an outside group so that they couldn't be accused of covering up or being bias towards their own employees. But like I said, I'm done with this conversation. Lets just agree to disagree. Oh and just remember, even though you wanna bash APD, next time you call for help, they'll still be there. =)

  • Wow... You obviously care nothing about the truth. I am longtime Austin resident and I remember the Brown Berets gettin' beat down by APD, that was at least 2 decades ago. The policy of abuse has just gotten more attention due to the ability of people being able to document thier actions.

  • ftp

  • What the Statesman doesn't explain is what APD's definition of "use of force" is. Anything that goes outside of a verbal command can be considered use of force. And the other thing that the Statesman doesn't make clear is that these 6,447 reports were reported by officers themselves...they weren't complaints. It was officers being honest and proactive. So 14 out of over 1,000 officers were counseled?? Oh yeah...there's obviously a HUGE problem and cover up conspiracy within APD. Please.

  • The officers reported them on behalf of the people who complained!!!!!! Like they're going to report themselves, "Hmm, thought I kinda handled that old lady pretty roughly, I should report myself."

    Wow, you are in denial.

  • Its not call denialed sweetie...its called I know police department policies and they are required to report it as part of their job responsibilities. I'm not an officer, but trust me, I know their policy. And if you don't want to take it from me you can call any department in any city in any state and they'll tell you the same thing. Not denial...simple facts.

  • If you think the APD has a pollicy of policing themselves, then why did the city of Austin have to form an outside oversight comitte? If it isn't a problem, why would it be the topic of so many articles and the cause of numerous blogs, groups & individuals in Austin? Like I said, 2 out of 3 people don't think it happens where they live, we know where you stand.

  • I like how this documentary doesn't have anyone currently with APD or associated with APD to give their input and have a chance to defend all the accusations. How about next time doing a documentary that shows how APD manages to keep Austin one of the Top 10 Safest Cities in the Nation. (Correction, the Top 5 for the last 3 years.)

  • I don't know where you got that statistic, but it doesn't matter. Keeping a city safe and having a problem with police brutality are two things that are not mutually exclusive. 2 out of 3 people don't believe police brutality happens where they live, I think it's safe to say you are part of that group. (that came from a 1997 federal study on police brutality)

  • Its called MSNBC, CNN, Austin American Statesman, News 8 Austin, KXAN, KVUE, etc, etc...you should check it out.

  • Ok, i checked it out, their source is the Morgan Quitno group where Austin is #5 in cities with a population of 500,000 or more. By the way, they rank New York City #4. Overall, Austin isn't in the top 25. Regardless, police brutality happens, and having an ex-cop testify to the abuses he saw in his tenure should be enough to show that it really is a problem in Austin.

  • Oh, you mean the ex-cop that retired in 1989 and we're now in the year 2007. You're right...that's a reliable source. I've got an idea; maybe when Lance Armstrong doing his Cancer campaign in front of the Texas legislature these next couple of months he should pull medical records from 1989 to use as his resource data.

  • You're right, it's probably worse. This is from a 2004 Austin American Statesman article: "Austin police officers filed 6,447 use of force reports between 1998 and 2003. 8 officers received additional training after filing reports. Police officials said supervisors counseled 14 additional officers about their use of force." Still think it's not a problem? You're assuming a "safe" city doesn't leave room for police brutality. I don't even think they count police abuse in criminal statistics.

  • The most outspoken citizens of this city are always quick to prosecute the officer but no the CRIMINAL. The simple truth is there is a bias in our community and while there are a handful of very outspoken and negative citizens, the vast majority of this city appreciates the hard work and efforts of APD. I'm done with this conversation.
