It's very strange that there is no mention of the General Slocum in this film. It was New York's worst disaster prior to 9/11 with over 1000 killed. The Wall St. bombing is mentioned and the Triangle fire is gone into at great legnth. Why was it deemed so insignificant not to even be mentioned? Just because no great reform movement of some kind resulted from it?
@jacktheripoff1888 I commented in the previous cut that the greatest (and most difficult) aspect of this epic documentary is editing it down to 17-1/2 hours and 7 episodes. Given the time, the resources and the slack, Burns could have surely produced a 40 hour tome that would've ultimately proven unwatchable. To your point, the General Slocum didn't make the cut, no doubt, because very little good came from the disaster -- little in the way of maritime safety reform, etc.
