Terrible performance by bass and drums; lost place three times; looking at each other for a reference point, never got back to the main groove of the song; horns = awesome
It ought to be illegal for there to be anything that makes me this happy without a prescription. This is one of my three or four favorite single Mule performances ever. That whole night was amazing, so glad it was preserved on DVD and CD.
@mlrhode That's Paul Jackson from the Headhunters who originally recorded this tune with Herbie Hancock. George Porter Jr. plays on this dvd, but on different tunes.
i be trying to track down Bernie Worrells "DIRTY" on here wid no joy as yet, heard it on lastfm & in awe of the dopness - so this is an S.O.S if anybody has it pls
I totally hear you. I would also call it a funk standard. It may be on the R&B standard list. I have already checked the jazz standard list, and Chameleon is on it.
I love this video. Dirty Dozen Brass Band with Herbie Hancokc wow.!!!! Roger Lewis has been our customer for many years. New Orleans Music Exchange. This brass band is absolutely phenomenal. People in the music field have to learn more about talented brass instrument . It is so essential to teach people about our cultural music in this country specially New Orleans. I fully support this band, this video and all the brass instument musicians.Eventually i will make more comments about this band!!
I'm kinda old but this kicks so much ass that I cant watch more than once a week! I saw them in Seattle in the 90's. This is the real deal. They are a flexible group, people coming and going but they make real music. Nothing else is like DDBB!
out of this world....complete madness!!!!! every single player is absolutely tight and fuckin insane...i get crazy when i hear these guys...i love it!
i played at a hookah lounge in Tallahassee one night, and Paul Jackson Jr was at FSU for a seminar with Marcus Roberts, along with McCoy Tyner. They came up to our jam and PJJ sat in with us for a 84 minute version of this song which included elements of Watermelon Man, Rockit, Sing a Simple Song, Tell Me Something Good, (Used to Be a) Cha Cha, The Chicken, Soul Intro, and others I can't remember
yeah seriously - when he starts wailing, it's at a Db (the high one) and then when he pops up, it's a freaking double F while growling/fluttering. Amazing.
i sat next to him on a plane from atlanta to minneapolis and we talked about music and trombone playin..(i play b bone) and i had no idea who he was...i had never heard of him..he gave me tips and we talked about gigs and shit....few days later i saw him on youtube...fuckin insane!! i thought he was just another bone player like me....crazy shit....
He's incredible. I only know two other people who listen to these guys (I live in England where they're not incredibly well known) and every time I solo now I use his 'siren' like bit where he glisses up to the high notes. He's awesome.
my respect for this band just went up 10 fold.

lol @ thinking the horn section is bad, they're some truely incredible musicians, not having an alto isn't a reason for not liking the dirty dozen

I think the horn section is terrible. Could definitely use an alto sax. Love the bari though

@AMMstudios Funk bands usually favor lower saxes, so the trumpet can contrast more with it's higher register.
