@calliesq..... ok first of all, we are both members of the community. I am a lesbian, and Phil is Gay. Second of all this is our interpretation. There are 100 different ways to sign the exact same thing. We did this video for ourselves and for the joy of others to watch. We never said we were perfect, we even have a whole video dedicated to our bloopers. We both love signing and thought it would be fun. If you hate our video so much, then let's see yours : )

Ummm...Im Bi and in a lesbian relationship and in my 6th almost now 7th year of signing. Do you two not understand the song? "It doesnt matter if you love Him or HIM" meaning God or the devil, not man or God. Your ASL is off. Its a song about gay, lesbian, transgentered, bi the rainbow community basically and that we should all accept ourselves the way we are and not be ashamed to be gay because we are still beautiful. Also there is a sign for drag queen and Born this way is not litterally

While I am merely an ally, so I guess I am not part of the community and thus anything I said is invalid, I am going into my 22nd year of signing seeing as I am the younger brother to a deaf sister, the son of an interpreter (which you spelled incorrectly by they way, not that I have an issue with poor spelling I just think it is recommended when you are about to tear someone down), as well as an interpreter myself.
@calliesq No one signs everything right, not even deaf people, as there are so many ways to sign anything! Plus this is an interpretation, meaning that is what the song means to them. I have watched this video multiple times and have found it very enjoyable, a few differences from how I would have signed it, but a solid interpretation none the less. Seeing as you pointed out a few specifics, lets address them.
@calliesq The sign WAY can also mean plan or method, and as the concept is that people are born homosexual, that it is their path and if was planned for them to be homosexual, that is a very fitting sign for the statement. As far as drag queen, that is localized sign and many states have their own way of singing it, I can tell you that in Maryland and the Potomac region how they signed it is a more than acceptable way.
@calliesq I am not quite sure why you feel entitled to tear this video down, just know this I have shown this video to many a deaf folk, and when they explained to me what the song was about they were damn spot on.
@uncleFJ umm, if you want to know EXACTLY what she signed, she used the signs "hear me tell+you" which would interpret into English as, like the song said, "Listen to what I say." You really shouldn't attack someone's signs and accuse them of such a HUGE mistake as this if you don't know the language well enough to critique it! Just sayin!

Silly question time: Is American Sign Language much different from British Sign Language? I've been trying to learn BSL to better communicate with a new colleague who is deaf. I recognise three or four of the signs, are they completely different?
@danno700 To answer your question, ASL is to BSL as English is to Mandarin Chinese. They're completely different languages with completely different signs and different origins. Haha.

This was fantastic, and I watched it three times in a row because I was so inspired by it. I'm actually trying to learn and post a few asl songs myself, but I'm not sure what the rules are for the signs used in a song..But aside from that you guys did wonderful, I loved the enthusiasm, the goofy dancing, and the charm, you guys looked like you had a lot of fun and it made me smile ^.^ great job!

I like two people in the video. careful when you're signing "word" repeatedly from L to R, it looks like something else. Just a matter of angle. Cute.
The dancing is distracting but the signing is good. A better camera angle would be helpful and not cutting back and forth would make it easier on the eyes. Good effort!

@everestgirl13 im not perfect at asl but i understood most of the signs! if you want i could try and gloss it out for you! I know how hard it is to learn asl so i would be willing to help you out! let me know if you are interested :)

@everestgirl13 I'm not perfect at asl (far from it lol) but if you want it glossed out i will try! I understood most of the signs so it wouldnt be too complicated to do. I know how hard it is to learn asl I've been learning for about a year now!! If you want me too let me know I would be happy to help.

oh cool! glad to hear it! ^.^ I'm just wondering, how do I choose which signs to use in a song? I know it's meant to be representational more than literal...but I'm not sure if there are certain rules..do you have any advice? lol

@AgathosXDaimon only thing i can tell you is learn a lot of ASL, and try to act out what is happening in the most general sense, not word for word.

This was fantastic, and I watched it three times in a row because I was so inspired by it. I'm actually trying to learn and post a few asl songs myself, but I'm not sure what the rules are for the signs used in a song..But aside from that you guys did wonderful, I loved the enthusiasm, the goofy dancing, and the charm, you guys looked like you had a lot of fun and it made me smile ^.^ great job!

I like two people in the video. careful when you're signing "word" repeatedly from L to R, it looks like something else. Just a matter of angle. Cute.

The dancing is distracting but the signing is good. A better camera angle would be helpful and not cutting back and forth would make it easier on the eyes. Good effort!
