This is the match that made me respect WCW. The announcers stopped the script and didn't ever pretend this wasn't serious. It's equally respectable when the show goes on. But, I believe I would appreciate it more if they dropped the script and use that time to inform the loved ones at home. Then the Sid Visious accident kind of killed that, when later Scott Steiner added insult to injury claiming he broke his leg wrestling,(rather I blame Scott and not WCW as a whole.) I miss WCW.
@BlingToYoRing I would guess neither. Shoot implies intentionally injuring someone via no-selling and stiff blows. Work implies, well, planned and executedly accodingly. Best word: botch. If it were a work, I doubt Scott (Raven) wouldn't have immediately been concerned with Ray's condition. If it had been a shoot, Scott would have likely left the ring after getting the job done (and, I'm unaware of any real animosity between the two).
@DaveyJonesLocka best response to my question I could have gotten! (kudos, ftr) In reality I was just wondering if it were a "work" or a "botch." (thank you for not jumping down my throat like I was an idiot mark:)
@MrGrimstead that's like WCW's theme card Ace-in-the-hole. It kicked the crap outta WWE's and was better than offspring in ECW. Such a good instrumental theme.
Very dangerous manuever to perform both wrestlers have to be in sync with each other to complete it properly, lucky he didnt break the man's neck. Surprised that Kanyon, who was stunt co-ordinator for WCW,would allow such a dangerous move !
Thats Why We Dont See raven no more or kanyon You Fuck up And No One Wants To Work With you Of cource D-Lo brown Is An other Wrestler that We Dont See No more For breaking Droz's Neck
this is the strenght of the LUCHADORES, no f'n wrestlers, LUCHA LIBRE is the best of the best! The luchadores has a very hard training, not as the wwe "superstars", so that, villano is still now wrestling
it woz ravens fault. hes suppose 2 wait until kanyon is falling with the power bomb 2 fall with him. instead raven falls 1st making the guys head fall at an awkard position. its so ovious its ravens fault.
Damn. I didn't know what was going to happen here. Just thought it sounded like a half-decent tag match. Poor Villano. Glad he survived with all his limbs working. Raven and Kanyon must have been scared too! On the bright side, it fit the "someone has to pay" angle very well.
it all came down to timing, kanyon was a millisecond to late executing the powerbomb, they were sposed to do the moves at the same time. Kanyon's fault but a mistake that even expert powerbombers could make.
Kanyon simply had to let go of the man and let him fall along with Raven who held him because this wasn't a normal powerbomb where you have to hold the guy for a fraction of a second so he doesn't fall on his head. Because he held Villano, he didn't allow the rest of his body to fall along with Raven who correctly grabbed Villano. This move was botched because Kanyon only learned how to do single man powerbombs and didn't practice this move enough/at all prior to the match.
Rey Mendoza Jr. recover and return to WCW. With fall of WCW Villano lost his job (also like a lot of luchadores), but he returned in Mexico (AULL wrestling), sometimes he wrestle at american indy.
i think villano 4 or 5 the one who i think or was told he still had a mask is still wrestling as well. the one with a mask wrestlis in indy's in manly mexico Rey Mendoza Jr. is still wrestling for cmll. he lost his mask in 2009. i loved the villano i like the name and how they wrestled
Words of Villano IV in the "Dos de Tres" lucha libre magazine:
"I was hurt in the neck when I was working on WCW in the year of 1998, it was a injurie on the vertebras, all my weight falls on the fourth and fifth cervicals pushing the disk till bottom, hitting the spinal cord. This happened in Boston fighting against Chris Kanyon and Raven. I almost left paralized, it took me a year and a half to recover me"
A brave luchador who stills fights as an indie... Regards from Mexico
