  • In 1989 it was 2 years ago. Now (2010) its 23 years ago. What a tragedy!

  • Didn't think so!!

  • @evldvl1 You obviously don't know what ITSRR stands for. Independent Train Safety Rail Regulator. If you don't have their accreditation, you don't operate. At the other end of the line the Glenreagh Mountain Railway didn't have ITSRR accreditation and ITSRR came in and shut them down. If you work with ITSRR to achieve accreditation they will help you to achieve it. But if you ignore ITSRR then they'll use the full force of the law to shut you down until you agree to do it their way.

  • @faulcon1 Is that a fact?Nothing to do with what we were talking about.Bud some ppl aren't as smart as you so it would seem so they TRUST what is being said to them is correct by the people involved that SHOULD know and have all the facts you are quoting. Those people come from all walks of life with huge variants of expertise and some are not capable of turning on a computer or doing those checks because it's NOT their field of expertise AND thats's where trust comes in.Not fools but victims.

  • @faulcon1 BTW I've seen your home page and it's more then obvious you're well skilled on the subject of trains and I wouldn't argue the point with you on a subject you clearly have more knowledge then I EVER will.If Jones contributors were as well armed as you seem to be with knowledge he would probably not got a $.Some people still beleive in taking a man on his word and sealing it with a handshake.PITY that. They shouldn't be thought of as fools rather sympathy for dealing with the real world.

  • Righto so lets get this right,if one of your family or friends wanted you to contribute money to a scheme like this would you do it un-conditionally if they gave you a believable sell?

  • A lot of very silly people who put their money into a museum project that will not eventuate for the foreseeable future. You'd have to be a "few sandwiches short of a picnic" to hand money over to one man in the hope that he'll do the right thing with no policy frame work in place to make him totally accountable to the members.

If a lot of people have lost their money and say in how the museum is to be run, then it's all their own fault!.

  • @faulcon1 It's called TRUST....Look it up and learn it!Unfortunately there are those that betray the TRUST put in them by good people who themselves are trustworthy people. And those good people probably end up like you and trust nobody.Sad world becoming more sad every hour.A person shouldn't be ridiculed for trusting someone.

  • @evldvl1 I myself would NEVER TRUST one person who has total and only control over where the money is spent. On that program they were crying foul and it's all their own fault. They didn't HAVE to put their money into his pocket, they did it willingly. It seems that Keith Jones has out smarted the lot of them. There is a phrase "a fool and his money are soon parted"

  • @faulcon1 I don't think you'd trust ANYONE!However these ppl trusted Jones and some trusted him as a "friend" and were "loyal" friends.I for one trust certain ppl and would un-conditionally do exactly the same as these ppl and they would count among my family and friends.Hindsight is 20/20 vision bud and it's easy to criticise with hindsight.Jones is the asshole so direct some criticism toward him.

  • @evldvl1 I trust family and friends, but when putting large amounts of money into projects such as this I'd want to know what the outcome is going to be. You don't know me and I don't know you BUT don't say that I don't TRUST ANYONE. Yes Jones is an asshole who conned and continues to con people out of money. I would want to see the accreditation from ITSRR and the office of rail heritage before I'd contribute money to the project.

  • My Grandad is in this vieo!

  • The distance to Coffs is the only thing Glenreagh has going for it .I travel both roads often and can tell you without a doubt the Glenreagh road is a disgrace from lack of maintainence however the waterfall way is better in comparison and the Dorrigo mountain is now an excellent road .U tube "highway downhill skateboarding".You simply can't do that on a bad road .Glenreagh can't be compared to Dorrigo in terms of natural beauty and the ability to attract tourists.Nothing agains't Glenreagh but?

  • The Waterfall Way is of a high standard, I admit. But its a winding, slow road that I doubt many tourists would want to drive. The road to Glenreagh, is of much lesser standard but its comparatively straighter and shorter...

Ultimately the market is tourists form Coffs Harbour. I personally think this is best served from Glenreagh than Dorrigo...

  • Good point...There are a lot of tourists that like the Scenic mountain drive but 'im sure there are just as many if not more who would choose convenience instead. Its all a matter of opinion.I would love to see someone like the state government step in and throw truck loads of money at both places and the line in between irrespective of where the Museum is so long as the line is open in between.Heres hoping.

  • If you ask me, the museum should be moved from Dorrigo to Glenreagh. Dorrigo is very difficult to get to (The Waterfall Way is narrow, winding and not an easy drive. Any other roads in are even worse.). Glenreagh is only 20 min from Coffs Harbour, a fairly decent road (not the best, but not particularly bad either)

Sadly, I feel the most likely option is to have the Glenreagh group keep on keeping on, and wait for Keith Jones to die, hoping his kids dont have any interest in NSWGR Rollingstock.

  • My parents owned the home he lives in and I was born in there.I lived the first twelve years of my life in that house.Good luck and I hope one day you do get this museum up and running.

  • Thank you for that interesting information.

  • Footnote : NSW Railcorp is in the throws of releasing another 100 or so heritage rail items for disposal. No doubt a large amount will find their way north. Jones was noted as present at the EOI meeting last Friday.

  • Dorrigo.

Is small town near Sydney in Australia, yes ?

    What was the outcome ??

Many years have passed now since this report, so do you have a rail museum there now or was it all too late to follow the audit trail and recover the situation and finances.

Is a farming area according to a different upload that I saw, so is people there still or did town die when the tourist rail museum failed.

Am curious about such as this things.

  • Nowhere near Sydney, about 9 hours away.

    Town survived the fallout.

Not much has changed in 20 years, Jones is still collecting, trains are still not running. I think the strategy now is to wait for Jones to die. It can't be that far off.

Admittedly the collection (however deteriorated) is certainly unique in the world and one day will probably form the basis of a thriving museum. But I doubt anyone alive today will last long enough to see it.

  • @zordmaker But why can't the NSW SRA or the NSWGR order him to reside the Leadership of the group and then create a taskforce to reform the group.

I am going to telephone the NSW Governemnt or the SRA to get this plan going because of this dictator type man; a Town is suffering
