im very angry.....because i want to write somthing special for this song....BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT!!!!.....ANYWAY........THE SOUNDTRACK FOR MY BEST DREAM...:)
I give Vai so much credit for making instrumental guitar music appealing to the masses. He is the one who turned me on to "real" music when all I had was a some boring nu-metal bands..
I also credit Vai for introducing me to this genius. I remember witnessing Tony when "The Breed" visited Denmark some years ago. He had a long keyboard solo in the middle of the set, and it was just magical!
A superb version,of an awesome track,by one of the most underated guitarists. Maximum Security is a master piece and Tony is simply in my book, one of the greats.Cheers for posting "Tears".
the cameraman deserves life in prisson without parole!!, at the best part of the solo's sweep picking arpegios (2:55) the camera was focusing on tony's hair!! haha, anyways...my fav player/composer..long live tony mac
One of THE best guitarist/musicians in the world. I wish he'd tour the States soon.
I saw him live on the Edge of Insanity Tour--- at the rockin' Ritz in Roseville Michigan--- one of the best shows of my life! His live piano playing (Chopin) was over the top! Awesome!
i don't think he ever used dimarzio officially (maybe at an early stage of his carreer), he always liked the tone of saymour duncan pickups, but since he signed with carvin guitars i don't know if he was able to still used those, all carvin guitars come with c22 or h22 (somethimes m22) humbuckers, i really dont know for sure but dimarzio i guarantee 100% that it's impossible, just not the glass, liquid tone that characterizes tony's sound
I was listening to Premonition today up loud. Then I put on The G 3 - SATCH, VAI, MALMSTEEN. and I respect all of them as well as Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert and way to many others to list. But Tony I like best. I have 7 of his albums. Malmsteen's hot as well.
Lynch and Macalpine are my two favorite guitarists... macalpine is definately the more technically skilled player, but lynch is at a level that few can comprehend... tony doesnt do as good a job with lynches solo in this.. which is understandable... because its a lynch solo, and only lynch can do lynch...they are two awesome guitarists.
Odd, I liked Tony's solo more on this one.. Maybe because I'm not a Lynch fan. I like some of his guitar playing (allthough I haven't heard him very much). I'm not a huge Tony fan either but this song is great and I think his debut album was okay. But each to his own! I do like to listen to Tony every now and then and might have to buy Maximum Security someday.
tony is a brilliant musician! i love the way he serve the music here and put the emphasis on the beauty of the melody instead of blowing out chops just to impress.

In my humble opinion this material is that lacks nowadays in the 90% of the progressive/fusion/ instrumental guitar songs of our days...
an actual melody combined with skill!
Not a useless series of techical exersices just to show what a good student someone become!
Put some melody in guys! Jim Matheos stuff isn't so epic because of it's level of skill!
Someone really sweat to come up with melodies like this!

George Lynch really played on this song, well on the original studio version on the CD & LP.
This video version is similar but is indeed tony live in studio.
The break down of the Lynch, Macalpine parts for the (original) solo is.
Lynch starts (8 Bars) , Tony (8 Bars) , Lynch (4 Bars) & tony finishes off with his (4 Bars)

Ahh such a great song! Is it true that george Lynch played in this song aswell?
That sweep picking part is really hard. I am trying to learn this.
