  • Avid <3

  • Can someone PLEASE help me?!

I'm a noob at this but basically when I try to play my edited footage, it just plays my original footage from the Event Library on the Canvas, instead of my edited footage from the Timeline. This means I can't see how my footage looks! Also to make matters worse my Playhead has gone to shit! When I select or scroll over footage in my Timeline it doesn't show up on the Canvas...meaning I can't see what I'm doing and I can't edit!

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME??!!

  • how much is it?

  • @BurtonSnowboard123 300 bucks

  • wait i got not any "Download additional Content" update software found nothing -.-

  • how the FUCK do you get real time!! please help!!?!?!?

  • Can you use this for windows 7?

  • @HLGmatrix1 nooooo apple will never do that

  • @HLGmatrix1 no

  • So this is just an editing program?

  • @Colinowww yep. what did you think it was gonna be? a million subscribers? that's what i with it was

  • Great video bro :)

  • how is this fcp different from the old traditional fcp?

  • fcpx wont let me view over the clips without playing it. like you did at 2:02 . its used to let me do it but all of the sudden it just stopped and for the type of videos i make it is necessary. PLEASE REPLY!!!! I NEED HELP!!!!

  • it won't let me do a software update for some reason help!

  • can you edit a feature film with fcp x

  • @8888Eastman yep

  • FCPX is a Super Imovie pro no like FCP7 but is 10x most easier

  • but of course FCPX can't import previous FCP projects....... but it's competition, Adobe Premiere, can

  • what is best to have final cut pro x or imovie

  • @JammasG If you're a beginner, use iMovie. If you get used to iMovie, use Final Cut Pro.

  • @AnimeScapePRO okay thanks what do you like best

  • @JammasG Final Cut Pro.

  • can u still buy older versions of final cut

  • final cut pro x looks 10x easier than final cut pro 7

  • He goes so fast and assumes so much knowledge on the part of the viewer that the video is rendered worthless!

  • Hi, do you know how to lay clips over each other in final cut? thanks please respond fast

  • If I buy Final Cut X do I also need Motion or is Motion included in that?

  • Heyyy i'm having Trouble how do you speed video on Final cut pro x? help me!!!

  • @xXLovePurple hit command R, and you drag the bar above the clip to retime it

  • @agazmararian OMGGGGG!! THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!!!! xxx YOUR AWESOME

Could you please subscribe to my channel. :)

  • What did you use MPEG Streamclip for?

  • question: do you know nuke? do you know if you can split apart the viewer canvas, i mean, separate them into independent windows? thanks for answer

  • i cant import files from my go pro? whats with that?

  • Thanx it was very helpful!

  • what program do you use to film the screen with? IT'S AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank you for the video :) I guess I'm going to stay with FC 7. FCX UI is just too simplified and also too many small gadgets that I'm not going to use.

  • Thank you!! Very informative for the newbie like me. No insult to the pros, but this like an awesome prosumer product and I'm probably going to get it. The instant gratification is nice compared to the frustrating endless rendering. Also, you don't always need a pro tool for pro results. I took my magazine workflow from indesign to pages. Yeah crazy right!?! Not so much. Content is key and if you're good at what you do, then you can do it with anything.

  • Thanks for this review. Very helpful. I'm a novice using FCE. Can I import work from FCE?

  • Can you make a video with all the text things?

  • How about all you haters go tell apple instead of commenting on some video. If it's as bad as you say it is, write a review about on iTunes. That could actually make a difference.

  • IT SUCKS, LOVE FCP 7 MORE

  • thank you so much

  • Excellent run through man! Subbing.

  • Grab FCP X directly on the Mac App Store

    bit.ly/final-cut-pro

  • Hey, ive got the full program, however none of my clips will be displayed on the screen, i can't edit because it wont display anything. Do you have any idea whats wrong with it :(?

  • @UrbanMediaTelevision maybe its problem in format....check if your videos are flv or wmv....that problem happened to me with Sony Vegas before

  • I commit suicide using final cut pro x . Come check it out on my channel

  • Some of us are real, serious, dedicated film makers - and it's an absolute insult to expect us to restrict our working methods and creativity.

  • This software is shockingly bad and not remotely pro. I'm a freelance editor using FCP since 2001 and I'm gobsmacked by this release. They took something that had years of history and perfecting and pulled the plug in a bid to make a quick buck by attracting amateurs who like using iMovie because they can knock something "fun" up in a few hours for their blogs (no offence this is has it's place). I've always HATED iMovie and it devastates me to think that FCP is going in that direction.

  • Why do they have to dumb down "Pro" software? I use FCP because I can't stand the iMovie interface. FCP is meant for high quality work, stick to iMovie or Windows movie maker if you want user friendly.

  • So it inports iMovie files but not FCP 7 files? What's pro about this software again?

  • PLEASE HELP, does anyone know how to do video in video or video layering in final cut pro x ? I needd help!

  • Somebody help me!

whenever i upload my files, the image is just black. i can hear the audio but no image =( i'm very frustrateddd

  • @MattsMacintosh im avid in after effects, and whenever i use fcp the old one it keeps on beeping and saying unrendered does this have that problem

  • awesome video man! currently a photographer trying to make the transition to video and fcpx is my first editing software to play with... this was a huge help, thanks!

  • Can you make your own titles, like in old Final Cut? I hate how I movie will not allow you to move the Titles to where you want them on the canvas. I also like adding motion to them and photos with motion keyframes. Can you do that with this new FCP?

  • Matt, If I am Using iMovie Right Now as My Main Editor, How Much Better Would FCP 10 Be?

  • would this be a reasonable upgrade from FCE?

  • why is mine SLOW? Is it because of all of my imovie crap on FC? It's aggravating I'm trying to do advance effects and it's super slow!

  • @GoffFilms i have the same problem dude...

  • Finalcut pro X-press

For the weekend editor Great!!! Get stuff done fast.

For the power user Wait!!! (for third party support)

  • @MattsMacintosh How do you set up a scratch disk for final cut pro x?

  • @xMoonaticDestiny Not if you're pro and not at college.

  • question im using fce 4 would this b a good upgrade also im using a 2011 13 inch mac book pro and filming with a t2i would everything b compatable? pls respond

  • Two questions: I'm starting to edit and iMovie is too basic. I have a above average understanding of technology. Would I understand all the editing of Motion, FCP X (I got most of what you said here)? Second, should I get Adobe After Effects too?

  • Love it, gonna buy it...thx!

  • i love how he sometimes mixes up with final cut pro x and imovie, but he's got a point, it is very similar. i aint complaining!

  • Great tutorial, but it's iMovie renamed Final Cut, all the templates pointed that out. Even kept saying, as in iMovie, built into iMovie. Disappointed Apple would go backward.

  • do a Compressor Tutorial.

  • (f)iNalCut Pro

  • It's official. As an editing Professor at a major Research I University, our labs will all be switching from Final Cut to Avid.

Apple is not the Editor. An Editor is an Editor. They have taken all control away.

This is the worst re-design of a product since Coca-Cola with it's New Coke campaign that ended up tasting like a "flat Pepsi".

How much do these programmers get paid again?

  • Now all built into Final Cut Pro X (not Imovie).

  • Mine launches very slow? help please.

  • How did you get your dock like that?

  • Hey MattsMacintosh you just said its imovie at 9:15, good job it was the only sensible thing you've mentioned in this video

  • @xOnurfull get a mac

  • can anyone explain why i get a black screen with a box on the canvas every time i try to import a new video

  • Is the app only for one computer?

  • he accidentally said iMovie instead of FCPX at the end of the video...

  • Can you change the look like you can on FCP 7

  • Guys i know this sounds hard, but just reinstall FCP 7. Thats what i did

  • @xOnurfull pinicle liquid is very basic and easy, thats what i learned on at college now i use avid and final cut pro. or try sony vegas

  • can you compare this to avid media composer please?

  • When I drag audio onto the timeline and try to line it up with the start of the video it over takes the video footage.. why is this?

  • "curtain wipe is kinda cool."

You lost ALL credibility with that statement alone.

  • @testertester138 agreed!

  • noooooo look like a imovie!!!!!! aaarrrggg

  • @mattsMacintosh, thanks, also can you creat a movie with multiple videos showing at the same time like you can with final cut 4?

  • Thanks Matt. Looking forward to learning, and sharing tips with you. ~Amani

  • Got a question? Let's say you did not want to use any of the titles that are offered. Is it possible to customize you own titles and arrange them how ever you want, does final cut X have that ability?

  • @dynamite2T Yes. The presets are really just templates that you can customize.

  • @MattsMacintosh Hey MattsMacintosh you just said its imovie at 9:15, good job, it was the only sensible thing you've mentioned in this video

  • @MattsMacintosh Great video :) You know how in iMovie, when you import video that is on your hard drive, you are actually copying your video files from it's original location over into your iMovie making tons of duplicate files. In FC Pro the application is only "pointing" to the video file, therefore conserving hard drive space. Which method is FC 10 using? If it is the iMovie method, that may explain why there is no rendering in FC 10, but it comes with the cost of eating up HD space.....

  • @TMSLLC You can actually use either method.

  • @MattsMacintosh Do you know which is the case for FC 10? In FC pro you typically are not manipulating the actual video file, they call it "non-destructive" editing. I just wanted to know what was the case in FC 10....

  • @TMSLLC Like I just said, you can do it either way (copy to the FCP event folder or keep it in the original location).

  • FCP X not Pro get your money back.

  • Great video, is final cut pro X compatible with more types of digital film than final cut pro 9?

Ive had trouble with uploading footage from my sony camcorder to final cut pro 9, FCP X could be the Answer, thanks.

  • why is everyone bashing FCPX so much? yeah sure it wont let you edit olf FCP 07 projects, but thats why you spent 1000$ on it in the first place, and for everyone that is saying that its like an imovie pro, it is, cause it has the simplicity of imovie, yet the advancement or FCP

  • @playstationfreak2598 its not an advancement fool read the specs, do your homework it's missing the other $500 worth, go make wedding videos or your aunts birthday party with this crap lol

  • This is verging on an insult to professional editors. Honestly the only reason I haven't switched to Premier yet is because of all the time I've invested getting used to FCP and memorizing all those hot keys.

  • Wow, looks brilliant! Subbed for more videos, and can't wait to look through the playlist!

  • i think it will replace final cut pro 7, i've been going trough the software and digging in, its way easier to use....and about the missing stuff, its a Whole new software, give it time..everyone will be using it once apple releases updates. besides i still cant understand why people saying going back to other softwares i mean...isnt final cut pro 7 still a great powerfull software?

  • Was there Final Cut 8 or 9?

  • @mendozairis No. Apple decided for whatever reason to skip those. Most likely because X (pronounced 'ten') is their way of signifying a big change over the previous versions.

  • Shall we just get adobe and have done with it?

  • Great job with the tutorials!

  • What a load of garbage.. I'd call it iMovie Pro...

  • Premiere Pro CS5 can do all this too...long before FCP. FCP just caught up and now looks like a suped up iMovie. Give me a break.

  • Thanks for the first look. Unfortunately all my fears have become true that all we have is iMovie with more bells and whistles.

I was truly excited when Apple announced a new version of FCP but that soon turned to disappointment once I saw the demo in Las Vegas.

I am sure that Apple will have a hit on it's hands with the web / blog / youtube crowd but as pros go I am sure there will a lot of resistance. Thanks again for helping me decide that FCPX is not for me. Now where did I put my AVID?

  • Can one still add plugins into this new Final Cut Pro?

  • Can I stack timelines? i.e. The top timeline is the one visible. Can there be a "gap" between the clips? Or does it have to "snap" like a magnet?

  • @temsi its better than imovie and worse than final cut pro ,but its better than final cut express so i would say its half way between fce and fcp

  • @MattsMacintosh Do you know if FCPX is compatible with the Canon EOS 7D?

  • Ooooh, pretty!! But it's buggy as hell... overall unusable.

Try Vegas Pro or Edius instead.

  • This is what iMovie always should have been. NOT Final Cut though!

  • I can understand why Final Cut Pro users are pretty upset with this. But for me, iMovie is just a little too basic and limited and I'm slowly moving up in editing-professionalism, so this is perfect.

  • Woah, Apple Just Made A Whole New League Here, FINAL CUT X

  • Question: how much memory does it need to install?

  • @FezzAndCompany About 1.5GB :)

  • @Zachaarr thanks man.

  • nope. nope. nope. I'm an AVID GUY ONLY now.

  • i really don't feel that this is an upgrade from the last final cut but its a great upgrade for imovie users who want to improve there home movies and other random things people do with imovie. NO WAY IN HELL ima usin this pice of crap software im stickin with the old final cut way more professional and nice. I am very very disappointed in apple and there cheesy ass marketing strategy because this shit was supposed to "revolutionize editing" not take it to the stone age.

  • It's quite telling the number of times you hear the word iMovie in a review about Final Cut... basically Apply has killed FCP and given us a glorified version of iMovie that is useless to most professional editors.

  • imovie pro basically. not the final cut pro for pros, everything so automatic and aimed at customers to make money

  • @MrSomeBacon Apple is truly turning into something that I would have never guessed. They seem to think that because of their recent success with iPods, they can make iPods with bigger and bigger screens and people will like them as computers. I thought they marketed to artists and professionals...maybe they once did. Make your iPods and make your computers, but don't make them in the exact same way.

  • Great look, thanks for putting this up. I like the computer collection too in the background.

  • How would you do PIP in this program? Surprisingly, it's not the same way as imovie

  • Thanks for the first look at FCPX...... Subbed.

Just a small question for you Matt........ I recently shot a video on my iPod touch in portrait, but I should have done it in lanscape!! Ouch (Its an important video) :-(

Firstly, will FCPX import my iPod footage ok, and secondly is there any in FCPX to squash it alittle to make it seem as if I shot it in landscape??

Not such a little question, but thanks for your time.

  • @LEONJERSEY You can distort/crop your footage in Final Cut.

  • @MattsMacintosh im having trouble uploading to youtube ,if i export it its really fast, but if i export directly to youtube it says 1 hr HELP

  • @LEONJERSEY

the app iMovie for iphone takes portrait videos and kinda crops them nicely into a box. It does it well. Just put the video into imovie, the app should do the rest, and then export.

  • @Onewa80 Thanks mate, I'll try that to see how I like it.

  • for someone like you, could you ever see this evolving to your primary editing program? or is it too watered down?

  • @CollinBrehmer Too early to tell. I'm using it exclusively for the next week to really run it through its paces. I have a feeling its going to work great for me, mainly because I'm 100% digital and only have to do web delivery.

  • Final Cut Pro X = iMovie Pro/iMovie on steroids...

  • iMovie and FCP should never touch hands.... FCP is for the pros. iMovies is for consumers. I never want to see anything related to iMovie in my FCP.

  • thanks for the vid

  • Ya the program is great, For people like my little brothers, What about me? I edit for a living, I cant use this.

  • hahaha he even mistakenly referred to FCPX as " Imovie" 9:17 . Guess it's just indistinguishable from imovie. But it's just a major problem i had was it can't import XML.

  • Im kind of new to final cut so for me the imovie ~similarity~ is sweeeet

  • hey have you got a link to the apple resource you mentioned about being able to run FCP x and FCP 7 on the same machine?

  • Photoshop is not for children. Ableton Live is not for children. Cheetah3D is not for children. Children can use them, since computers are made for idiots and children to use. However, video editing is a particular thing that requires control to do. I like aspects of iMovie better than FCP, but only a few things, particularly rendering in the background. However, you don't take a pro app and then ram a broomstick up its ass, and pull its guts out. Avid must have sent 100 russian hookers over.

  • Wow ... a video telling us how FCPX works (rather than just b!tch!ng about it)!

Thanks! (But I'm still not 100% convinced.)

  • Some of these kids dont know what they are talking about. Final Cut Pro X is amazing. Just because it looks like iMovie, doesnt mean its not professional anymore. It does what they old one did, but with more simplicity. The fact that you could get an editing software, that does what the last version did, but better, with a $700 dollar drop price, and its simple. Come on. Get real.

  • So it's been a good 10 year ride and if the application does truly get to a point where we can use it again, we could always bring it back. But for now let me just say, Goodbye Final Cut Pro and Thanks for all the Fish.

  • It's more like iMovie Pro 11'

  • @roflwaffle12321 I think the same thing about trolling

  • @MattsMacintosh Brilliant!!!

  • @roflwaffle12321 I bet the only reason you say that is that you can't afford one.

  • @roflwaffle12321 i've been in the pc world and trust me, i said whatever you are saying, until i bought one, and it's amazing man, of course pc is cheaper and you can do almost anything a mac does, its just so much faster and 'trouble free', you cannot compare ipad tough, i agree on that i wouldnt buy an ipad. once you bought a mac...cant say its possible to turn on pc again.

  • @daneedition both of my parents have macs.

  • 18,000 subscribers and still replied to both of my comments! subscribed!

  • @slb711isScott Thanks dude, I appreciate the sub. I try to get make to everyone that ask a question. I miss some, but its not through lack of trying.

  • yay! because we all love imovie stock effects and transitions.... /sarcasm..

  • @slb711isScott Thing big difference in FCPX is that you can actually alter them. Its more like have a Motion or AE template... not that I don't agree with how much everyone loves stock effects...

  • @MattsMacintosh well that is good that you can alter them. im tired of people thinking they can edit a video by slapping down some transitions and a title. maybe now we can see a little diversity in these peoples ignorance.

  • @MattsMacintosh i like how your dock is on the left side without a base under it, how did you do that?

  • Where did u get Ur track for Ur iPhone

  • arghhh stop saying iMovie!!!!! NOOOOOOOOO

  • Sorry but.... I don't want a blowed up iMovie for my professional work! Such an unprofessional software!

  • I heard that you can't change the capture scratch location? Please tell me that I can organize everything in my own method??
