  • Rick: "Take her with you Sascha and be sure she gets home."

    Sascha: *excited* "Yes boss!"

    Rick: "And come right back."

    Sascha: *deflated* "Yes boss."

    I love it.

  • Best movie ever. And Humphrey Bogart is one of the greatest actors ever.

  • 2 people were misinformed

  • "He won. I love you, but he pays me."

  • love this scene

  • i know i've heard the bartenders voice sampled in a song when he says "i love you"

  • Dear God he has the loveliest eyebrows

  • "I like to think you killed a man. It's the romantic in me." :) Indeed.

  • Before there was Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood, or Even John Wayne, There was Humphrey Bogart; The original bad ass.

  • @Subderhenge I was just saying something similar to my niece and her boyfriend a few days ago: "Who's the most bad ass actor you can think of?" She stopped and thought about it and said, "Chuck Norris!"

and I was like " :) Okay, he's good, but Bogey, he's just bad ass without even needing to try to be bad ass."

  • bogart = greatest actor of all time

  • Actually, a pivotal scene in the movie: In these 2.5 minutes you learn everything about Rick that you need to know to make the rest of the movie , and what happens in it, make sense.

(Incidentally, I bow to no one in my love of Bogart, but dig the astonishing mastery of Claude Rains: A few have equaled his Thespian Mastery; NONE have ever surpassed it.)

  • I humbly disagree with asbte, as a big fan of Casablanca I am also a fan of comics. Those movies listed are made for kids (and kid in us) those shouldn't be viewed on the same level as a Casablanca they aren't meant to be taken that seriously. This is a movie that stands time for a dramatic classic, an untouchable. Those others will always remind me of being a kid and reading comics and wanting to be a super hero and Bogart will remind me about being the boss of bosses. Both good but 1 great

  • I just love this moment in this movie... Rick and Captain Renault having a cigarette and talking there. Greatest movie.

  • The greatest screenplay ever written. It's what's left out that's important. It's what we don't know about Rick that enlarges him.

  • How extravagant you are...throwing away women like that. Great!

  • @eyarbroughzone - If he keeps throwing away women like that, I'll get my net ready!

  • I watched the movie yesterday and this was my favourite scene as well. It is very good to know we are not alone in our tastes and views....

  • "Where were you last night? That's so long ago I don't remember." "Will I see you tonight? I never make plans that far ahead." Ha ha, ha ha. Hilarious, but true, in such a situation. Later..."Hello, Rick. How extravagant you are, throwing away women like that, someday they may be scarce." Ha ha, this is true and too funny at the same time.

  • Greatest dialogue ever in this movie.

  • I guess this movie made me smoke... It makes living so smooth. I think tonight I'm gonna watch this again.

  • I found a nice rare print of Humphrey Bogart at iconicmodernartprints.co.uk I thought you might like it too. Let me know what you think.

  • One of the things that makes this film great is the small parts get lines that are just as good as the leads. Casablanca is proof positive that you can't make a great picture without a great script.

  • He won. I love you, but he pays me.

  • Madeleine Lebeau was a stunner.

  • i love Bogie. He's awesome. Both him and Lauren. Very cool people

  • Comment removed

  • love this film. The script is so sharp and witty.

  • It's damn near impossible for me to pick a favorite line in this movie. It's like picking a favorite child.

  • "Yvonne, I love you. But HE pays me!"

  • "tell me who was it you left me for was it lazo, or were their others in between or aren't you the kind that tells" I love that line so much, and her reaction after he said it,classic

  • I wish that Humphrey Bogart stil lived

  • @92af Sadly, he died reltively young (in his fifties) and his last year was really bad.. all that smoking. You can even see the effects of the smoking on his face in Casablanca.

  • Question: Did I miss something, or was the point of this post to point out that Casablanca isn't in the desert, but right NEXT to the Atlantic Ocean? I looked through a couple of pages of comments... couldn't find anything. P.S. LOVE this movie.

  • @lukiepete Erm, I hate to be the bearer of obvious news but the ocean is a desert too!

  • @DumblyBrilliant Yes. Agree. The ocean could be considered a desert, but again, we are not "in the ocean," but next to it. I mean, by this logic, one could say that NYC is in the middle of the desert... which doesn't exactly ring true with me.

  • @lukiepete I think you misunderstand me a little. I was referring to the water shortage. There is only one stream in Casablanca and at the time the movie was shot the place was a bit of dump and mostly desert. Having said that, the street scenes were shot in Hollywood but they did a good job of them because most of the extras were genuine refugees from the war.

  • @lukiepete umm a desert is defined as having less than 10 inches of rain per year. So NYC wouldn't qualify. However, Antartica is a desert.

  • @lukiepete Yes, that was one of the movie's bloopers...

  • Question: Was this video originally posted because Casablanca is not, in fact, in the desert, but next to the Atlantic Ocean? I read through a few pages of comments... but maybe I missed the point of this? Side note: Great movie. Love the classics.

  • Every guy wants to be like Rick. He is so money and does not even realize it

  • I sing about Bogie and others in The History Song.

  • lol... we're in the desert, there are no waters... i was misinformed.

  • Greatest script ever written.

  • Bogart through that girl like a rag doll..Way2go Bogart...WAY2GO!!! hahahaha

  • Bogart the biggest Badass ever

  • My TV production group just filmed this 2 minute scene with the voice-overs. Surprisingly, it looks much like this scene without ever having seen it.

  • The reason I believe many kids today don't know classic Hollywood is because parents admittedly made bad choices earlier in life and now shelter the kids from all what makes them feel painfully guilty. It is very wrong I believe to inhibit the truth. As a kid everyone asked me what I was talking about bringing in magazines that were popular when my mentors were growing up but now since we've grown up many consider me, like their parents used to, a real doogie howser type. I don't party no more.

  • started watching this one night on TCM and i couldn't stop. Bogart is such a cool character.

  • the boom boom Germans

  • i have 20 years old and i just love this kind of movies specially this one. i would like to be on a situation just like in that movie.

  • @hackerkiller666 your profle says 29?

  • that is because im not the only one who use this account .....sherlock !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I could listen to Bogarts voice all day. <3

  • Yes Humphrey Bogart was is and always will be the coolest actor who ever lived the way he talked the way he was the way he acted in all of his movies

Sadly today only a few people today know Humphrey Bogart I'm 13 years old and I'm lucky I know who Humphrey Bogart is most teenagers dont well who ever knows who Humphrey Bogart is today is not missing out on a great actor.

  • I agree I'm also thirteen years old and it always saddens me that no one knows who he is.

  • Same, I'm 14 and none of my friends have seen this movie.

I'm making it my mission to educate them :P

  • Bogart was the coolest of the cool.

  • you can say that again.

    *I was misinformed.* lol

  • "How extravagant you are, throwing away women like that. Some day they may be scarce."

    LOL! How true.

  • You said it! However, take my advice (if you will/need it?!), NEVER have 'em on the RE-BOUND! Another beautiful line from this film though! Bogey was the coolest of dudes! ;-)

  • These are fantastic lines, but nothing can compare to Bogart's cold delivery of "What of it?"

  • Cool. How about "his eyes are looking at you kid" or "round up the usual suspect". Those are popular too.

  • PeterFirthFan, demonstrates how small minds like his get a rise out people disapproving of his venal idiocy.

  • A truly stunning film loaded with great writing and high in symbolism. Some of the best lines ever spoken. To top it all off it is a love story told from a mans point of view with a heck of a lot of truth behind it. Great film that should NEVER be remade, They would only cock it up like they did with The Italian Job.

  • @DumblyBrilliant Obama says it should be remade, starring all African-Americans, and therefore, I agree.

  • @Oceanpacifica1968 Obama says you should stick your head up your rectum too. Let me know what its like up there and if they find Elton John.

  • @DumblyBrilliant I would do anything Obama asked of me. Anything. Maybe you should show some allegiance too - if not, the government may one day force you to do so.

  • @Oceanpacifica1968 Yes Comrade. I think that you are right da?

  • @DumblyBrilliant

Not my favorite Bogart film, but enjoyable until the end when Rick goes off on his socialist rant.

  • @DumblyBrilliant -well said

  • @manweller1 Thank you.

  • @DumblyBrilliant CASABLANCA 3D!!! SUMMER 2011

  • @DumblyBrilliant So True!! If you read the wiki article on the movie it says the script was slightly altered and resubmitted to critics who nearly unanimously rejected it. Only one recognized it as a resubmission of Casablanca. Amazing.

  • why can't they write anything good today? its drives me mad what the american public will accept. iron man, hulk, spiderman, batman, transformers. man the american public has a lot to be worried about.

  • Agreed, 100%.

  • i guess at that time films are only open to adults to watch...kids don watch anything at all, but know its kinda like he opposite where everything has gone so immature to entertain half-grown pubic kids

  • With all due respect those are summer action blockbuster films. I'm sure you can find a lot of good films that aren't blockbusters.

  • Super heroes aren't to blame for Hollywood's lack in quality - there's plenty of romantic comedies and WW2 films that are horrible. Hollywood is all about money, and money is easily obtainable if you appeal to the public, and thanks to electronic convenience the public are largely idiots, so scripts written to appeal to idiots become big sellers. QED.

  • qft

    heres looking at you kid

  • crap i meant to click on thumbs up. mouse error mouse error how do i change it back?

  • Yeah they were saying the same thing back when iron man, hulk, spiderman, batman, etc., were all COMIC BOOKS....

  • @asbte

They do write good or even great films today. They also wrote terrible films back then. We just don't remember them.

  • @asbte I think it is probably because film scripts today are written by halfling "men" brought up by mainly single mothers and they are made and shot by the same demographic. There are very few men left in Hollywood, or the entire movie business. Most of them have bought into the Marxist/Feminist PC bull**** and would not recognise an adult if they fell over one. Kids films for kiddies.

  • @asbte But all the movies you've just named are action movies, an almost completely different genre from Casablanca. Action movies don't necessarily need this high level of writing to work, because they're not of a script-driven genre. Dramas are, however, and when you consider what today's drama writers have come up with, like Shawshank Redemption, Match Point, Vera Drake, American Beauty, Fargo, Philadelphia, Gosford Park etc., I'd say the "american public" has nothing to worry about.

  • Comment removed

  • @IndyWhipped Today you hear about Twilight, Avatar and Iron Man; all of which were huge successes at the Box Office, but lack any memorable qualities.

Casablanca however is a work of art.

The writing, sounds, composition, and the raw emotions expressed by the actors; all of these are at their finest.

As long as a movie is laking in some quality it will never be a work of art.

If you think any of the movies in the past few years match this, then you have no real appreciation for Cinema.

  • @asbte Yeah, but a modern Casablanca would have a Victor Lazlo character exposing that 9-11 was a Mossad/Mossad asset/rogue CIA false flag terror op...The 7/7 Tube bombing in London was MI-6...The Madrid train bombing was Mossad...The people of the West are being scared, played and manipulated..

  • @asbte

Well, actually, taken on their own terms, the Iron Man and Dark Knight movies are awfully good... and for the record, I say that as one for whom "Casablanca" is the firs-t or second-best movie of all time.

  • @asbte there's a lot of goodscripts out there, but they are not from hoolywood, start watching french movies, england, spanish, chinese movies, and you will be suprise, hoolywood this days its just bussnes, and if the script dosent have action it will never see the light.

  • @asbte Because films as good as this come along once or twice - they're not every day films. There's nothing wrong with Iron Man, nothing wrong with Batman, nothing wrong with any of the films you've mentioned - they serve a purpose which is to entertain for a couple of hours. They've never tried to be great cultural cornerstones.

Don't be so quick to judge everything by the standards of the greatest of all time, or everything falls short.

  • @asbte NO WAY, with all those superheros and such i feel safe. Then again who is a modern Humphrey Bogart? I can not think of one, He is believable in every role, great acting can be the only explanation. Or more modern day actors should take roles in a variety rather than becoming "The-'insert genre'-guy". I bet you can think of at least one, i am drawing a blank.

  • "Where were you last night?"

"That was so long ago I can't remember."

    "Will I see you tonight?"

"I never make plans that far ahead."

  • Yup! That's some first-class writing. Nothing without Bogie's delivery, though.

  • 'I love you, but he pays me.'

    'And come right back.'

    'Ye-es, boss.'

'What waters? We're in the desert.'

    'I was misinformed.'

The dialogue is so good in that film.

  • Standing-O for Bogart! Got rid of the wench, just like that. Loved this movie.

  • Sweet, Ftw...

  • Probably my single most favorite clever exchange of dialogue in the movie. "I was misinformed" Great!

  • I love the scenes!

I love both when Rick was saying that he can't remember that far back and don't plan far ahead, he's so cool!

    I love Rick and Louis!
