might i ask what i wrong with gold source? Also half life 1 doesnt use .hl1 files, the a.i. is pretty decent when compared to games like crysis and shit like that, also gearbox actually produced 3 half life games (opposing force, blue shift, decay),they didnt help with hl2.
1. .hl1 files are the saved game files, and Nightfire uses .hl1 files for saved games. Just check the console between autosaves.
2.IMO, EA should have made their own engine. Oh wait, they didn't care whether the game sucked or not, silly me.
3. Valve knew what they were doing, Gearbox didn't really know what the Half-Life series was going to be like, so Valve didn't let Gearbox...help...them make HL2.
@Maxaxle, EA And Valve have a partnership, EA ports the games to the PlayStation. That's why it uses goldsource. Also, Goldsource *is* pretty decent. Actually, it's a very good stable engine. That the weapons are overpowered, is that the scripters made the weapon itself overpowered, which has nothing to do with the Goldsrc.
Also, i just installed the demo, and when you start it up, when you see the EULA in the beggining, you see it says that the engine is Valve's work.

@Videogamerytb What do you mean by that?

Goldsrc still rocks, its modular, so you can add new features to it.
