I think they are both brilliant musicians and even better when together but because of Pete's appearances in the gossip columns he attention was always on him and his music - no1 noticed how good Carl was. So when thy split babyshambles (still a great band ) got more notice because of pete than dirty pretty things ( just as good a band).. Also without he strokes the libertines and arctic monkeys never would have made it!!

I suppose since the split, they both feel they live in the shadow of eachother/The Libertines, but really - it was THEIR shadow that the two of them cast TOGETHER that they can't duplicate alone. You can't compare it to Pete cause it's a different style and he's like a modern poet. I don't think anyone alive can touch him lyrically. But like you said J is a great composer, I go as far as musical genius actually. As for people saying they could've wrote "Last Nite" all I'm saying is you didn't so... I love Rock'n'Roll music but the whole cliché about drugs not so much.

Then we have the libs, great lyrics/poetry, guitar solos, time for heroes(meh) and death on the stairs( a bit above average). Pete said himself, he is a self-taught musician and a very average guitarist, carl barat is pretty good. And god the riffs arent simple, you fucking twat, play any of those solos from the strokes.
