Why do Brits never say anything that is not British might be good? If a British company had put a 5.7 liter V8 in one of their cars would it have been the best? These comparisons always seem to be stacked in Britain's favor; perhaps because others don't make cars that are only meant for track days? So is there a point to these cars really? How many in Britain buy track day only cars or do they exist to promote pride in British engineering when Britain couldn't keep a car company in business?
Prob with a 5.7lt V8 is weight. Unless the chassis is tuned to handle the massive weight of this engine, the car is a dog (eg Elfin).Elfin are fitting new models with turbo 4 cyl engine and the car is now fantastic. A 5.7lt V8 is awesome if towing a caravan or taking loads of kids to school but it should not be used to make a real performance car. For real performance you need min weight for max dynamics. A force fed or highly tuned 4 cyl will kill and old school V8 everytime.
I agree to a point - I've talked with lots of guys that just can't see anything better than an Aston, and let's admit there's lots better than an Aston.
But with this track day group the weight of a 5.7L V8 throws everything off by miles.
A Honda S2000 engine weighs ~350 lbs. LS7 weighs ~ 460 lbs. So you're looking at ~110 lbs difference with a giant (300HP) difference in power and torque (338 TQ) and power curve. The added weight of forced induction would put it on par with the LS7 but would take a lot to get 300HP more from it.

This is a video meant for those of us who regularly buy & enjoy autocar magazine. Driving these cars properly & to the limits isnt necessarily for those who want to be entertained. Infact Colin openly admits hes more suited to written reports,its how they work. As for questioning the production of the film,remember that the photographers are there to shoot for the magazine,the videos are the second priority. Considering its free,you should appreciate it more. If you dont like, dont watch.
