Check before Nanzan era, when China came, Okinawa had an Army & a Goverment already. Kobudo & ti where much in use. Matsumura studied in Shimasu also & to set an example Okinawa is not a Budhist country. Naha te is more likekly to China.

I think the indigenous martial art called Ti was influenced by Korean-Taekkyun, also known as Tegoi mainland Japan . Ti could be a compound of Tegoi, which is Taekkyun. I don't know much about Japanese history, but I know some Korean history and Taekkyun is Korean history, culture, philosophy and it is thousands of years old. So, maybe Okinawa was also influenced by Taekkyun in the beginning. Thanks
I am just speculating, no dis-respect just an interest in history. Taekkyon has a long history so it makes sense there was influence on bith sides over time.
@sethbateman Okinawa would not have been influenced by Korea, simply due to geographical location. Okinawan culture was highly influenced by it's proximity to southern China. Many of the founding families were Chinese. An Okinawan compound was located in Fuzhou beginning in the mid 1800's and from there many of the Okinawan Karate systems were derived. Tang Soo Do is primarily a Korean version of Okinawan Shorin Ryu, Tae Kwon Do was founded by Korean shotokan karate students.
@Koryuhoka fisherman! Yes. But really there is soo much deep seated racism between Korea and Japan neither will admit to anything. coming from the other. but truthfully all are soo close!!!!!

Okinawa karate is the closer martial art to kung-fu the reason early shaolin monks move to the island.
