This commercial used to freaking scare me when I was about 8 or 9. I didn't understand the commercial, but just seeing a little girl drown impacted me when I was a kid.
huffing can kill you almost instantly (not a scare story; this is true)
the bag's on your face and then Dad walks in your bedroom. adrenaline rush, because you've been caught and you're scared, OK?
causes a cardiac arrhythmia which can kill in seconds.
dentists use nitrous 'cause it doesn't have this problem, & the machine mixes in extra oxygen. go the DIY route and you might forget to breathe real air now & then. hypoxia kills brain cells, at least...
sadly i seen this first hand me and 6 of my friends went over to my friends mike and few of my friends wanted to get high so he ran up stairs and got some axe (the spray kind) and he sprayed it in a bag and we all got little messed up but my best friend zack....he did to much of it and he layed down and passed out and didnt wake up we all thought he was faking it since he has before in past but no we call 911 and they came and the parmedics said he died at the seen i still regret it majorly
this commercial, when i watch it, i can hardly breathe. because i have done it like four times, saw this commercial, stopped. have not done it ever scence
Google "inhalants drowning 1995." Click on the 1997 Inhalant Campaign link. You'll see the "Drowning" Video on that page. Click on it to download. You'll need RealPlayer to play it, but RP is really easy to install.
I had not seen this commercial in years, so I was pretty excited to download it. Enjoy reliving the memories...
Man, this was from back in the day. Good, scary message sent to young kids and teens about not taking drugs. They don't even have good commercials like this now; just commercials for fat kids. Plus, more kids are taking drugs now. They want to be "gangsta" and get high unlike the kids from way back.
Yeah it was edited. I used to have it on tape years ago when I was taping Beavus and Butt-Head off of MTV and they shortened it. The full footage it closes in on her face in the end. Her mouth is open, her eyes are closed and strand of her hair are going in her face from the water. She is dead and sinking to the bottom of her room. They should have kept that in. All you see in that is her legs going limp in the end. It was more disturbing with the closeup of her face. You felt sorry for her.
I remember seeing that version! Although I wasn't paying very good attention to some of it, I did catch that disturbing ending. First and only time I ever saw that commercial, but I remembered that ending for years.
What a haunting public service announcement (psa) as I remember this commercial as though it were yesterday. A friend has permanent brain damage as well as bone marrow (fatty inner lining of bones) damage from huffing. Please be smart and don't huff!
Inhalants are ordinary household products that are inhaled or sniffed by children to get high. There are hundreds of household products on the market today that can be misused as inhalants.
Symptoms exhibited by long-term inhalant abusers include weight loss, muscle weakness, disorientation, inattentiveness, lack of coordination, irritability, and depression.
After heavy use of inhalants, abusers may feel drowsy for several hours and experience a lingering headache. Because intoxication lasts only a few minutes, abusers frequently seek to prolong their high by continuing to inhale repeatedly over the course of several hours. By doing this, abusers can suffer loss of consciousness and death.
This scared the crap out of me as a kid, as I thought "sniffing" meant your ordinary sniffling during a common cold.

I think the footage used here is from the original but some small parts are edited out, it has lessened the impact.

didn't the original include a close up of the girl's dead body or something?

Yeah, I remember that.

This doesn't have the harsh impact of the original, but an ok remake. Many say this is a commercial that would make anyone under 13 shit themselves.
