@peruspena1 I actually went to a fencing studio (If thats what you call it) in gym and they are actually a lot less flimsy than I thought! We were using foils, we go back tomorr.w
@Kelertasable Yeah haha I went fencing for gym class for 3 days and on the third day we went at it in a real bout, we played with foils but used the rules of epee and the strike zone of sabre I think just because we didn't have enough stuff to give everyone equipment... It was pretty fun, since I'm one of the stronger kids in the class I was pretty much able to just rush my opponent and overpower him... Lol
@Kelertasable I agree haha, at high levels. However, for a bunch of 16 year old beginners with no real formal fencing training, besides maybe a few drills on how to swing the sword and such... Strength matters a little bit :P
Haha, I tend to fence my 15 point matches very quickly, they are often over within the first two minutes. I should probably learn to use the time a little more with new fencers though...
Why doesn't Bardenet understand!? He goes straight like 1000000 times and never got a single!??! He finally changed at 9-6 but lost the bout because of going straight a few times after!!!
@flickeringlamppost - No, I think you missed something; he clearly went with the blade where he never even tried to touch it before. The difference was he put a lot more pressure on, and because Glazkov was on edge, Glazkov counter attacked when Bardenet wanted him to, so Bardenet just took the blade and went straight to the body. He missed because of some technique error or something, and then remised and hit him. This was his tactic for a few more touches, and the only thing he got touches on.
@Needham90 actually, I would argue that the French fencer fenced horribly (considering his level of expertise mind you, he is still a good fencer). He only simple attacks for the first 3 min of the bout, the only reason he was able to catch up in points is because the Russian changed his tactics. Then when the Russian realized it wasn't working, he went back to what he was doing in the beginning of the bout, the French fencer didn't adapt at all for the entire bout and so he lost.
The stupidest touche ive seen. Why would you go for the foot when you are up 12-11 in the Finals. It is too risky especially against a french grip fencer.
@Theartofjamming exactly, the french grip has nothing to do with it, damn, i would think the french grip would hinder the person more than a pistol... but, it IS all based on preference
@flickeringlamppost it would hinder you if you didnt know how to use one. However he knows exactly how to use it and is amazing at using it. And it adds so much reach to his counterattack. This would allow him to be farther away and still hit making him fall short. If you have a counterattack game like most french grip fencers do at the cadet level it is all about making people fall short.
glazkov's game was mostly amazing counterattacks, yet bardenet insisted on doubling out on fleches and losing toe shots... the two times he used 2nd intention he actually got the touch
I don't know who I hate more, the left-handed Russian or the Frenchman who keeps throwing himself at his opponent trying to sneak in the first touch.

Would be cool if you could have teams vs teams and they would play simultaneously.
And ig you got struck by an oponents sword you could come back alive after 6 seconds and continue to attack back until the time limit ends.

These swords look flimsy. I thought fencing would be more like, parrying and shit... Like the movies, haha.

@ScopedPewPew in fencing strength means nothing. its all about speed and precision

@flickeringlamppost its easy picking for a counter attack if you go for foot. Hell even if u have a pistol its easy.

Funny thing is, the year before Glazkov became world champion of the cadets in Belfast. He wins gold as a first year junior, much respect for that.

Glazkov is insanely good. Became second in the junior world cup in Bratislava on 1 touch last weekend.

Cool, a Russian (lefty) pommel against a French using the "common" grip? That's a match that we can't watch every day.
I knew Glaskov in 2007, in a Moscow's school. He got waaaay better.
Congratulations!
