  • I just want to say, whenever I'm down in the dumps or having a not so good day, I watch this video. It always leaves me smiling.

I can't thank you enough for raising two wonderful children and uploading this video to YouTube.

  • @dylanbradbury Thanks. That means a lot. I do the same thing. have a great day!

  • This rocked. I came straight to your channel after seeing this video uploaded from someone else.

After spending all my savings on a flight to see my younger brother and sister for Christmas, I really couldn't afford any presents.

I got them two rocks from outside, boxed them, and wrapped them in three types of wrapping paper.

They knew I had little money, and that it was a joke, but still my little brother held his up and said "it's...a rock!" and laughed.

    Congrats on understanding kids!

  • @OhItsJan Awesome. Thanks so much. Was it at SnowKid? I just like to know who has it. :)

Your story is awesome! It really is amazing. The "rock" thing is great. We have a running gag in our house with out kids when the kids get something that didn't expect or like (in general, not necessarily gifts), they'll say "i got a rock" like Charlie Brown in The Great Pumpkin.

Were your brother and sister surprised to see you or did they know you were coming?

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. :)

  • @danstahl67 I just checked, it was SnowKid. Someone named DigoFail has it too. Only 750 views. Probably trying to cash in on your good parenting caught on video.

Anyway, when I landed, I took a taxi to a local store, and arranged with my mom to surprise them there. They were pleasantly surprised, even though I surprise them every year. I think they have as much fun anticipating my arrival during normal store visits.

    Kids are cool, man.

  • @OhItsJan The fact that your son wanted to give you some money back is great. Like most teens, I was a jerk to my parents.

I dropped out of college early and quit my fast food job. My dad pulled some strings and got me a REALLY hard manual labor job in the oilfield. I worked 10 hours a day in the Louisiana summer sun for little money.

That straightened up my attitude pretty quickly, and I became much more appreciate of the efforts my parents put into raising.

    I've seen lots of people,

  • @OhItsJan younger, my age, and older. Few are truly grateful for what they have, and even fewer are willing to work for something.

So, I'm glad to see your kids are starting out with their heads on straight. Best of luck to you and your family.

I'll stop ranting now. Cheers, and enjoy life!

  • im at work and i cry like a girl watching this, u sir have a wonderful family, and u are a great father

  • This might sound odd--but I watch this video every year because it reminds me of why I should have a family in the future and what Christmas used to feel like when I was a kid. Your son and daughter truly are wonderful kids--I wish them well in their future endeavors! Merry Christmas!

  • @Nerdyartsmart This doesn't sound odd at all. I'll go watch it when I am having a bad day or feeling low. Thank you for coming back again and again. We are really glad that this brings you happiness. I hope that you too had a very Merry Christmas. :)

  • Behind every great kid are great parents. Well done

  • @red2lucas Thanks so much. They are both a joy. Have a great Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Thanks for taking the time to comment too. It means a lot.

  • Does the boy try to give the dad some of his birthday money at the end? That really is the sweetest part.

  • This made me SO HAPPY. You don't even know. Seriously.

  • @Stryker125 thanks so much. :) Glad this video was able to make you happy. :)

  • @danstahl67 haha :) It's just good to know that there are still genuinely good people out there, as Nik seems to be. You guys are doing a good job raising him. Keep it up!

  • and we can keep it forever??? lol

  • This video needs more views. Really

  • this is the best video on youtube :) it just made my day :D

  • that kid is too nice for xbox live :)

  • I got an electric train in 1967... I was quite happy too !

  • Kid's just aren't as appreciative as they used to be, but this kid makes me so happy. I hope he's enjoying his XBOX, and I can tell he's going to go far in life. You raised a great kid :)

  • kid; how did u afford it dad; we put your mom on the streets

  • yup the best vid :'D i cried...

  • dad I want to see your face pls pls pls thumbs if you want him to show himself

  • Ps3 is better

  • This is really great to see kids that are genuinely greatful for something, im only 15 but all the time i see young children who are little brats with parents who have no control, but really this is great, sure he is a little young for halo but im sure he'll love it for years to come as i do. Kinda felt sorry for him as he spent his past b days with injuries but this put a smile on my face... Well done you should be proud :)

  • i literally almost cried ;'D

  • this video made me smile when i saw it. :) you did a great job raising your son

  • What a sweet kid!

  • you sir, are a brilliant parent

  • I know a lot of people have already said this, but - wow, you obviously did a great job of raising your kids. And your daughter: it wasn't even her birthday but she joined right in, expressing almost equal delight when a gift was opened.

What I don't understand is the dislikes on this video? If somebody could explain that to me.

  • "You bought everything?"

    "Yep"

"I cost you a fortune, thank you so much!"

Best part of the video. :)

  • You should be really proud to have a son like this. And equally proud of yourself for rasing him with such respect!

Made me so happy to see this, thank you! :)

  • The first time i saw this... I laughed, just because it reminded me of my younger brother on easter one year over some transformer thing. :D he was so happy and he said "I have wanted this for 15 years!" .... he was 5. haha. but anyways, second time around. I cried. Its so nice to see such an understanding child, its amazing. you guys are awesome so awesome. You have a couple of really great kids. good job mom & dad. and may you all be blessed. <3

  • Well done you for bringing up your kids like that. That must have been the best Christmas present to get back from them when they gave you that big thank you and understood that it must have cost you a small fortune! I hope my kids grow up to appreciate things like that, Merry Christmas and Happy killing on Halo little guy!!! ;)

  • bless that kid i hope he was happy christmas's and birthday's forever. what a great kid :)

  • You mean we can keep it forever!?

  • Why's he crying? Did he want a Nintendo Wii instead?

  • @LanceMurtagh cause he knew it costed his parents a lot...

  • @phoLegit

Still doesn't explain why one would cry

  • This is the most successful piece of advertising I've ever seen. This video will probably sell a record number of Xbox's and Flat screen Tv's. Genius man, genius. Stimulate that economy, oh baby :D

  • I saw this over on todaysbigthing

Very touching. You should be proud of the great kids you're raising.

  • "I wanna... Can I... THANK YOU!!!"... Pretty much the definition of "heart-warming". The kid's reaction put me in a good mood. As a kid, and as a father, one can only hope to have such kind of moment sometime in our lives.

  • I love this! It made me smile. You have such sweet, special, adorable kids :)

  • Comment removed

  • Congratulations on having such a respectful, well raised and loving kid. And congratulations on being such extraordinary parents. These moments are priceless.

I really hope you have a wonderful life.

  • I was like this when I got my seconed hand master system. It came in a avon box but i dint care, best x-mass ever :D

  • you made me remember a very special christmas i had when i was a kid :) your son is amazing, thank you for the video

  • DON'T WRECK IT!!! DON'T WRECK THE BAAACKS.

  • why are we all crazy about the boxes lol even I am :P

  • best parents ever!! mine did something like that to me when I was a kid :) love em so much!

  • if every kid was like this in the world , the world would be a better place :)

  • @MrLuigikart yea your right ;)

  • I wonder what his reaction would've been if it RROD'd as soon as he turned it on.

  • @notorioussrj i was thinking the same thing :O

  • DAWWWWWW

Give the console wars a rest guys. It would have been nice if it was any other console.

But if the kid wants a 360, then good for him.

  • @Shippoyasha wtf dude you just said "it would have been nice if it was any other console" and you said give the console wars a rest i hope you break your collar bone shithead this kid is so grateful

  • @Andamxx I don't think you have any idea what you just wrote.

  • Comment removed

  • when i need parenting tips i come to these guys hands down

  • Parenting skills, they're over 900000000000000

  • Is no one else disturbed by the fact that this kid got Halo for a game? Then people wonder how trolls are made, I at least hope he isn't exposed to the ridiculous xbox live community......

  • @alexjxcx Also this.

  • @alexjxcx I was going to say something similar, but then I realize that I got Halo when it originally came out, which would have made me about 12 at the time. It really depends a lot on the parents. Online play aside (and who knows how much playing online this kid is going to do, since that'd be another $60 a year), the original Halo was more violent then Halo 2 or 3, which doesn't even really have human blood splatters anymore.

  • Should have gotten him a PS3.

  • @Tracidic But there's no Halo on PS3, the kid wanted Halo

  • @Tracidic i have a ps3 and if its great but cmon man if he wanted an xbox and wanted halo he wanted an xbox and halo

  • So awesome to see kids like this!!! Most kids today are trash-mouth, disrepectful, ignorant brats... The world needs more kids like this, and parents like you!!!

  • 24 people never appreciate and never be grateful for what they have

  • Aww! You guys are awesome!

  • i love the way he says "we get to keep it forever?" Are you excited? I am thrilled! This kid seems to act more mature than a lot of kids because he is pretty much crying with excitement! The last time I felt that way was 3 years ago when my daughter was born.

  • Children will not remember you for the material things you provided but for the feeling that you cherished them.

  • Awh bless :) This is amazing!

  • a THE LTTLE BOY (:

  • What a great kid,

  • This video made my day, i hope when i grow up and have children that i can raise them just as well as you have.

  • when the kid says "can we keep it forever" the dad should have said "no we are taking it back to the store" well that sould be rude but funny

  • Thats sweeeeeeeeeet :) That kid is DEFINITELY not 17 though..... just saying.

  • Awwww so sweet, you must've brought him up so well, please keep it up until he's grown up since sweet kids like them are rarity nowadays. You're off to the best start parents can wish for.

What did the girl get on her birthday btw? ;)

  • nicest kids everrrr; god bless u :)

  • This is great, I applaud on your parenting/teaching skills. His face at 0:41 is priceless. What a great birthday.... I'm not going to lie, but I shattered into to teears especially at the "Do you like it?"

    - "I'm thrilled!"

    What a nice vocabulary ^^

  • I bawled my eyes out watching this. What wonderful children you have raised.

  • Best video on YouTube hands down.

  • your kids are very well raisen i congratulate you

  • I have thoue books......

  • Shallow, materialistic American children. Pfft.

  • @CaptainCarrion Shallow? A child that thankful and appreciative is hardly shallow.

I take it you never got excited when you got birthday or christmas gifts

  • @CaptainCarrion that boy is far from it rude

  • What a fantastic and respectful son your raising, you should be very proud. As for everyone making smart comments when you have Kids yourself you'll find out there's no better feeling in the world than making your child this happy

  • What a brilliant boy.

  • AWWWWWW why cant we have more sweet little vids like this? instead of that horrible fake vid

  • is this really for me, forever!

*No we were just kidding its not for you.

  • i i got that same book for my B.day :D

  • i love the reaction when he starts opening the box he's like "!!!!!!"

  • this is why i love givin gifts

  • @Ghostspartan83: we were playing with him about not being able to afford the stuff. setting him up. :)

  • @Ghostspartan83: and who doesn't love raman? that's all i ate in college.

  • @danstahl67 You probably also had a choice to eat it. After a long time of having to eat it, it kinda gets boring.

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like nik is never going to read that other book lol

  • Wow that was a great video! It also looked like the girl wants to play Halo 3 also... But aren't they a little to young for Halo? Oh well good job guys!

  • @damitchman9 It's just a video game. They say vilent video games leads to bad kids...But If you think about it there going to learn waaaay worse things sooner or later in there life. Soooo It does't really matter...(sorry for spelling)

  • @Ghostspartan83 I agree but that game has cuss words

  • @damitchman9 Eh go to a middle school you'll hear a lot worse things.

  • I totally cried, and I'm 25. This is beautiful. You guys need to know, you are great parents. Your kid is totally beautiful and so thankful and tried to give you his MONEY. Dude, you guys did good.

  • This kid is awesome! He is truly one grateful boy! Your very lucky!!!

  • That kid makes me feel like I'm ungrateful :)

  • LOL!

"DON'T WRECK IT! DON'T WRECK THE BOX!!"

Very great, pleasant video! Joyful all around!

  • If you guys were to start vlogging, I think this would be the best vlogging channel on youtube. I mean, just through this one video I've fallen in love with your family =)

  • Cool parents == cool kids? I'm happy for them

  • good kids but i dont think a kid that young should play halo

  • woooow this video made me cry...he's so calm and emotional about it.

    wonderfully raised :]

  • this is how every kid should be, and that is a worthy reward for a good kid.

although i'm extremely impressed by the little girl as well. she's not jealous or intruding on his day and presents at all. I hope my kids turn out like that

  • You guys are great parents and you're obviously raising a great kid.

    Kuddos to you!

  • your kid is awesome and you guys are awesome parents

  • That is a wonderful child you have. His gratefulness and joy is such a good reflection on how well you're raising him. What a sweet kid! I hope he's enjoying the present every day!

  • this brings great amounts of joy to my heart next time i see my mom i am going to hug her and thank her for everything she has given me! :'D

  • i dunno why people put these on youtube but this is the one that made me smile, he was so genirus :D

  • you know what, danstahl67, i congratulate you because you have raised you child really well!

  • i cant wait to have kids and surprise them like that

  • Thank you. I'm so happy to know families like yours exist. I hope your children stay as humble as they are in this video. You've done a great job raising them.

  • WOW this kid is the most impressive kid ever for a gift like this. He was genuinely ecstatic about it and he was super humble for it.

  • This is by far my favorite video on YouTube.. ;)

  • have fun with him

  • I'm afraid if you get him live now people online will start influencing him, whether it be cursing, inappropriate humor etc. This is my opinion though.:)

  • wonder who's the 23 douche bags that disliked the video.

  • This is truly heartwarming. :)

  • You should put him in a spongy box a week before his birthday. I think that'll stop the curse xD im glad that you got such a great kid. I wish you guys the best. =]

  • Awwww :]

    Thats SOOOO Sweet.

  • Wow... what a nice kid you have, most would've forgotten about saying thanks and went straight to playing.

  • I love this so much. Our parents used to tease us a little leading up to Christmas and birthdays so we wouldn't think we were going to get what we wanted. But they always made it happen and it made it that much more exciting. It's great seeing a sweet grateful kid get an awesome birthday he'll remember forever. The best part is that he was even grateful for the books leading up to it haha. I <3 your family!

  • its so nice seeing a very grateful kid i hope he enjoyed it :) and its good to know hes doing great, hope more kids will turn out like Nik :D i also felt really happy for him when i saw his reaction :P

  • very sweet video

  • Wow these kids are so thankful. It´s unbelievable. And it´s very cute. I loved the part, where your son starts whispering "a Xbox 360 ?!" God bless these kids, they´re so adorable.

Greetingz from germany. Hope my english is good enough for you. =)

  • I just love to see kids happy, and you guys sure seem like wonderful parents. I mean, everytime I see a kid happy, it just puts a smile on my face, and this video definitely did not dissapoint. That's a really sweet kid you got there =D

  • He was so cute, when strated cry. :) I cried too. :D

  • You are very blessed. The fact that he was so thankful and knew the sacrifice and hard work it took to get it was great! That is special. Thanks for sharing! :)

  • This is the sweetest thing! So much better than the kid that yelled and carried on about getting a Nintendo.

    Grateful kid, great parents!

  • this is sooo cute X) i cant belive wut u got him one xbox elitle the halo 3 lenegdry set

Guide book and a action fuiger wtf!!! best vid ever seen :)

  • You guys should have bought him a PS3 cuz u guys r gonna have to pay for him to play online plus 360's are more prone to breaking than a PS3......so when it breaks u either fork out 100 bucks for the repair cost or buy a new console

  • This. I remembered my own reaction when given a Xbox 360 (lots of jumping were involved)

I applaud your son's maturity and capability of gratitude. Not many children of his age are as in touch with his feelings or even capable of articulating his emotions in such a positive manner.

You've raised a wonderful boy good sir.

    I think he deserved it.

  • wth was that

  • Lucky Kids...

    Good parents :D

  • It's like the christmas I never had :,)

  • You did a really good job raising your son.

  • =')

  • you need to get him xbox live!

  • Well played, good sir. Well played. You have raised your offspring well. I can only hope I do as well with my own, when the time comes.

  • Why cant all kids be like this?

  • not all parents have the money to buy their kids a 360 or a ps3....some kids are just happy what they have.... :)

  • I truly wish more parents would raise their kids like this. You guys are doing an excellent job!

  • i agree 100%

  • good job parents!!!!!!!! you both deserve a cookie and a night to yourselves!!!!!

  • I wish I was this good of a kid six years ago...

  • very nice kids. they are grateful, unlike others. your doing your job right.

  • OMG

    This was so beautiful!

It was so incredibly cute! I am so thrilled for him and you guys for having him in your lifes!

Seriously I absolute loved this! BEAUTIFUL

  • This is my all-time favourite video! Thank-you so much for sharing it!
