The Top Ten rock'n roll players Jimmy Page gibson, fender and others Jimmy Hendrix fender, gibson and others Angus Young gibson, others? David Guilmour fender gibson and others Eric Clapton fender , gibson and others Mark Knopfler gibson, fender and others Ritchie Blackmore fender, others? Eddie Van Halen fender, and others Brian May red special , fender and others? Slash gibson and others?
George Harrison is playing a Gretsch... and a few of these do play the guitar made by the other manufacturer also, for example Clapton plays Gibsons as well... so really is it a stupid video...
Jimmy Page mostly played Les Pauls, the Solo in Stairway to Heaven was recorded with a Fender Telecaster and the double neck he used a lot in the live shows was an EDS-1275.
From all the descriptions online of the differences, I'd always thought I would prefer hum-buckers. But when I hear them both, I prefer single coil apparently. Who knew. Shows how hard it is to describe music with tones like "warm" and "soft" and "twangy".
@SirPrufrock Yeah it really is. I love the clear, more vintage sound of single coil pickups. Though I do like a nice crunchy humbucker in the bridge in my guitars.
okay so i own a fender strat, just the sound i wanted. hendrix, clapton, buddy guy, stevie ray vaughan, pete towshend and many greats use a fender. gibson king, fender, god
The guitar George Harrison is holding is a Gretsch!!! Not a Gibson. You see the Gretsch sign at the pickguard and the inlays at the top of the neck? Jeah that one is a Gretsch!!!
fenders all the way. but they both are used for different sounds. i like playing a fender more, i think its more comfortable. and the guy who made fender is my cousin. haha
Ive got both of them, and none of each is less than the other one :) both are awesome sounding axes with authentic sound. If I had to compare...maybe because ive got the heavier LP Custom, but the Strat seems to be a bit more comfortable when playing, though.
I have spent a few seconds thinking about it and my final decision is that they are both winners and would like to take the opportunity to thank the outstanding musicians for taking the time to demonstrate them for us.
I like both. Depends on what you play and like. I am getting a fender strat soon because i learned my way around the guitar on one so Im more used it to it and like the feel of it. Plus they are cheaper and have multiple price ranges.
you should've put guitarists of the same style for each guitar example, Yngwie-Shredder, Randy Rhoads-shredder, BB King-Blues Eric Clapton-Blues, Mike McCready-Grunge Jerry Cantrell-Grunge kinda, Gary Moore-R&B, John Frusciante(now, kinda) R&B etcetera
Stevie Ray Vaughan doesn't play on a fender stratocaster he plays on on a guitar that he desinged specialy for him called SRV that looks like stratocaster
every guitarist has he's guitar that makes him want to play. if you like the sound of a strat (you buy a strat) if you like gibson (you buy gibson) I like fender because i have one strat and i love it, but o course its my taste of sound and opinion.
george harrison was playing a solo in the song, "till there was you " from the musical "music man" by meredith wilson. he was playing it on a gretsch guitar.
you got to give it up for: Yngwie Malmsteen Gary Moore Stevie Ray Vaughan Slash Zakk Wylde John Frusciante The Beatles Eric Clapton B.B.King Gilmour Tony Iommi Ritchie Blackmore Angus Young Jimi Hendrix Jimmy Page And many many more. Without them rock wouldn't be what it is today, and a lot of us wouldn't be playing music today. So Thank you." And For Those About To Rock We Salute You"
gibson: slash, jimmy page, tony iomi, gary moore, joe perry, angus young, alex lifson, dave grohl, ace freeley.. fender: jeff beck, eric clapton, richie blackmore, jimi hendrex, ywngie malmesteen..
you pick you tube...........(my pick an opinion is: gibson)
Its really lame to compare them, Gibson is the best and it will always be the best, Just look at a Gibson Les Paul Custom 3 Pickup and compare it to the best Fender, it doesnt even get close, Gibson is historic, Fender looks ass cheap and even a squier looks the same as the highest end fender, Gibson will always be a win, no doubt.
Stupid question. Tonal preferences and individual feel is a matter of personal preference BUT any good musician will have at least one of each for starters.
Why spoil the video with this Malmsteem arsehole, speed for the sake of speed,..boring,................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

To be honest this video doesn't decide which is better, all it does is show the different guitarists who play either a fender or a gibson. i prefer gibson, but just because certain people play different makes doesn't make that brand bette does it?
Es kommt immer darauf an für was du die Gitarre brauchst außerdem kann man diese beiden Marken nicht vergleichen. Fender hat schlechte Tage und Gibson auch.
luv fender stratocaster telecaster jaguar mustang cyclone jag stang jazzmaster but gibson has nice guitars 2 sg explorer es thunderbird(bAss) but i luv fender
Ya Gotta Have one of each. There is no way that one of them will sound like the other. Even a PRS Hybrid has its own thing going on. Strat = Bolt on neck 25.5" inch scale, Les Paul+ Glued in tenon neck 24.75" inch scale . Fender Tremolo complete separate string intonation, 5 way switch giving you 5 different tones single coil tones with some noise. Les Paul Hard tail adj, bridge, Humbucker FAT Tone pick ups. Fender Bright, crystal clear tone, Les Paul FAT Thick sustainable tone easier to bend
I think a good guitarist know’s that both Gibson and Fender are good. My fav guitar is my custom shop Tobacco Burst 58 VOS, but I just (last week) bought my self an INCREDIBLE American made 90’s Strat, and I love the sound.
JUst by having jimi hednrix... eric clapton... SRV ... mark knopfler... fender wins... now im not talking about the archtop guitars im talking about solid body.. becaus if we go to archtop guitars then gibson wins naturally :D
fender played by Gilmoure is great, but so is Gibson with gary moore....its all taste , I am a great gibson fan because of its thick fat sound,,,,,but great solos have been played in fender as well..( comfortibly numb pink floyd )...there is no "best" guitar....lets just enjoy the great man who play them.....
the only diff is the fret action, thats all, depends what your playing through.fender maybe more versatile.both sound great depending whos playing them haha
Gibson Les Paul-Muddy, heavy, uncomfortable, expensive, fragile
Fender Stratocaster-Bright, clear, lightweight, contoured to fit your body, more affordable, it's also more versatile, easier to chop up and modify, and built like a tank, plus strat players are cooler, les paul players spend all their time obsessing over tailpieces, capacitors, pots, wiring, push pull knobs, neck shapes, mounting rings, pickguard materials, etc, while us strat players skip the jib-jab and rock out
you can't compare a gibson with a fender. both brands are different and have a different sound. personally ik like the gibson style of guitars, why? because i like the tone a the feel of it. every player has a own style lets keep ik that way!
@TakaNuva1111 let us not forget that most of these great guitar players use at least 1 type of sound effect. So its not 100% strat sound most of times, even though you can hear the distinct sound somewhere in the background..
No, Schecters nowadays are for 14 year old Synester Gates wannabes practicing their sick sweeping runs on their beastly Line 6 spider. You can play anything with a Strat, from Yngwie to Hendrix to Henderson to Govan to Clapton to Eric Johnson, who hasn't played a Strat? Then there's Gibson, that covers the ground that Fender can't cover, where you need a thicker, meatier sound. What can you play with Schecter? Metal, heavy metal, hard rock, classic metal, basically just metal.
@WoWintosh WEll sir, im a 15 yr old Syn Gates wannabe and i usually enjoy a metal/classical sound on my guitar, but if it adds any consolation, i actually own a fender, but my fav guitar is the Gibson SG Supreme. Diversity is uber.
Harrison is on a gretsch and don't forget that Clapton was the one to thank for the ressurgenece of the LP near the end of the 60's while he was in cream
OK George Harrison is playing a Gretsch Country Gentleman; not a Gibson, and in the videoToni Iommi is playing an Epiphone with a longer scale neck then the SG he started out with in Sabbath
It's about what the player wants the song to sound like. I have two of each, ES335 and Les Paul Deluxe, along with Anmerican Highway1 Strat and American Tele. I love them all and they all have different personalities suited to different feelings. I play them through either a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe combo or a Marshall JCM900 tube head and 4x12 cab. Or both amps at the same time, it's all good.
I like the Gibson sound more, and I find the LP shape fits me well, I own a strat and an LP, the LP sounds really good on my Vox and Roland x30 Cube. Also, I would take an ES-335 over a Jazzmaster any day
@3Deity Tell that to the presidents of both companies right now, or watch the lame robot les paul comercials. It is a bussines and they are like God vs. Satan, Gibson is way better, has way better looks and sounds.
@Macsk8ing I've noticed that Gibsons seem to be favoured by short plump people and Fenders by the more slender of us. 'God vs. Satan' respectively eh? Why thanks for the compliment, I'll definitely stick with heavenly Fenders! :o)
@3Deity Wtf does people have to do with Gibson? Who gives a shit about plump and slender people? That makes nonsense, FUCK YOU, nobody gives a shit what you think.
@3Deity Where did you get the ''FAT'' from, watch some of my skating vids before you open you cock sucking mouth, You're the one that replied to my comment so fuck off douchebag. Who gives a shit if someone's fat or not, Yngwie Malmsteen is fat, and he uses a Strat so don't come at me with all that bullshit.
its a personal preference. if you want a more fluid sustain sound, a gibson. if you want a twangy sound, go with a fender. generally, a les paul can make you tear up, and a strat can make you clap your hands.
To be fair I think it depends on a guitarist's playing style, but theres no reason why you can't play both fenders and gibsons. The real winner here though is hendrix, the guy could play with his teeth!
It's a preference, Clapton played Gibsons until he decided he wanted to be a blues player and went to a strat and was never as good, in my opinion, also, Page played a telecaster on most of the first album, nothing's written in stone when it comes to this shit, Buddy Guy, probably the best blues player around, all strat, but then there's Joe Bonamassa and Warren Haynes, Les Paul. There are real good guitar players out there that don't play either, Paul Gilbert, Eddie, Nuno, Dimebag...
Just about every great guitarist uses several brand guitars like Jimi Hendrix, he used a white sg and several strats, Jimmy Page used telecasters to SG's, Kirk Hammet uses several guitars and so on and so forth...
I really like gibson les pauls. They sound great. But I don't like there body. Its much too thick and I can't play shit on it. I got a 1972 american fender tele deluxe(reissue) and It fits me like a glove. But it's all a matter of personal taste. There all good in there own way
I prefer the sound of Fender!

It would be better to call this "Fender & Gibson", they where not enemies and music is not a competition. Music is emotion.

@Macsk8ing You don't care what I think? Okay; Fuck off and die you fat ignorant piss head. There, you're not bothered at all, right? :o)

I'm a Fender Guy. I grew up playing my brother's Gibson LP, but once I got my hands on a Tele neck, I was done with Gibson.
...although, I wouldn't mind having an ES345 so I could live out my BB King fantasies.

its a personal preference. if you want a more fluid sustain sound, a gibson. if you want a twangy sound, go with a fender. generally, a les paul can make you tear up, and a strat can make you clap your hands.
reallybored32 8 months ago
Yhis is the reason why i have one of each to get both the lighter sound of the fender and the punchier sound of the gibson

@Querymonger: I believer you're right; George IS playing a Gretsch in the video....good catch!

00:00 to 1:00.....I'd rather hear Paul Kossoff play one note on a les paul

Just about every great guitarist uses several brand guitars like Jimi Hendrix, he used a white sg and several strats, Jimmy Page used telecasters to SG's, Kirk Hammet uses several guitars and so on and so forth...

I really like gibson les pauls. They sound great. But I don't like there body. Its much too thick and I can't play shit on it. I got a 1972 american fender tele deluxe(reissue) and It fits me like a glove. But it's all a matter of personal taste. There all good in there own way
