Incredible! firts band in my long life that i love to hate and hate to love... their melvins sludge coated with the kind of post-modern harmonies that usually make me wanna puke. one minute they sound like those Amphetamine Reptile bands of the early 90's, the next they como across as childish emo, BUT this album grew on me, and i don't feel sorry, not one bit. excatly: fuck genres and come together, babee
I know I am prolly gonna get some shit for this, but the main riff sounds a LOT like Sonic Youth's Mildred Pierce youtube.com/watch?v=cZ2eoFj0pwg ...maybe they're fans
No you're absolutely right and I'm surprised I never noticed this, being a big fan of both. The progression of chords and the tempo are very similar. Healer is a lot faster and smoother sounding though, obviously. Makes sense though, Steve Brooks is a huge fan of Dino J, Sonic Youth kinda stuff, the late 80's alternative/punk bands are a big influence on Torche's sound
Saw them on tour with High on Fire and Kylesa and liked them so much I bought all the vinyl they had at the schwag booth. Really awesome band live and even talked to them after the show. Very approachable guys. Actuallyfirst heard them on the split EP they did with Boris, who is IMO one of the most important bands to come around in decades, but anyways, Torche rocks......touring with Coheed seems a little misplaced though. Never really cared for Coheed but I appreciate their approach to music.
@kazoorocketman54 I got there too late to see Torche, saw Circa Survie (not really impressed) and of course Coheed who I was there for.
A lot of people hate on Torche but I think they're great. People were saying stuff about how they wished it had just been Circa Survive and Coheed, fuck that.
@fullmetalfunk Yeah, I really liked Torche. I guess as far as genre-wise goes, they're very different compared to Circa and Coheed, so the majority of the audience members at the show I went to didn't seem to be impressed, which is pretty unfortunate. I guess by them touring with Coheed brought them to the attention of coheed fans with broader musical appreciation such as you and me? =P I'm very glad they toured with them. I may have never discovered Torche otherwise.
@kazoorocketman54 Yeah I looked them up on here when i heard they were touring with Coheed and was pretty excited to see them but eh..got their just as the were off the stage. :/
I hope to see them live sometime though. I don't know why people didn't dig them but you're right, the Cheed fans with broader musical tastes seemed to pick up on them.

I think I heard they acknowledged it was kind of a tribute to Sonic Youth. I approve.
