@YardyBri, a problem with you unbelievers who do not know God's Word is that you don't know who are Christ's brethren & who aren't (Amy isn't!). [Luke8:21, John14:21-24, 1John3:4,8] Amy has made herself God's enemy [James4:4] enroute to hell [Heb10:26-27, 1Cor6:9] as she promulgates false theology, which you clearly have swallowed as you contradict God [Heb6:4-6; 1John5:16; John12:40; 2Thes2:11-12, Rom1:28, 11:8; Rev2:21] Did God love the people of Sodom, or of Noah's day, or Judas & Herodias?
These comments are appauling. Christians are suppose to be role models for others yet most of these comments are judgemental with scriptures thrown in. Smh, you make the rest of us look bad. God loves every single one of us, doesn't matter what she did, God forgives EVERY sin, not just some. Jesus Christ said "He without sin cast the first stone." None of you are without sin, so none of you have the right to judge, only God. The song is beautiful. God doesn't love misery, he loves us.
Amy has sung some of the most beautiful and inspirational music over all these years. While I don't completely get this song, it's also gorgeous. It saddens me how much criticism Amy always gets from the intolerant and close-minded in her own Christian community. It's one thing to have a different point of view, but none of us are the ones who get to judge her.
Wow, I think you all missed the gist of the song. I don't think any of you understand Christianity. Guess what, you all sin too! I've experienced the awesome Grace of God while crying out in my weakest time. Mine wasn't over some sin I had done it was over a near death of my son that I had no control over!
I am really sad that she would give bad advice like that. We need to be in God's word and in prayer and we should not continue to sin if we want to live for Jesus we should repent and turn from sin. Amy should know better than this, I love the song which was not written by her, I get the message of it, God loves the praise of His people but He also loves the broken cries of the unsaved. I do not approve of Amy's advice, even if she did sin &seemed truly repentive I would be happy but, she isnt.
I will pray for the lost to know that God is merciful,& unfortunatley people who claim to b followers of Christ are led astryay, decieved, and decieving others, they can exchange the truth for a lie. Turn in salvation for a life of sin and they even use scripture to try to justify it. This is my prayer, those of you who do not know God please don't look to any celebrity or super preacher, look to God because imposters have a form of godliness but it's powerless. They look like the world. SAD.
@ForgivenbyGrace84, what's truly sad is the harm done to marriages, to families, to children by lustful disobedience of God! Such unrepentant adulteress enemies of God as Amy [James4:4] who use their celebrity to purvey false theology & to lead "little ones" into sin, are so offensive to God that He promises them punishment worse than a millstone round the neck in the deepest part of the sea [Luke17:1-2]. Such children of disobedience as Amy [1John3:4,8] are promised His wrath [Eph5:6, Matt7:23]
@yeeeaaawhooo Oh believe me I am truly disgusted over anyone who would twist the Word of God or lead others astray. I can tell that she is not someone who is truly sold out or surrenderd to God, it is sad that some ppl might think, that it is okay to stay in a sinful state &think that God will just overlook it if we cry out to Him. But the truth of the matter is that crying out alone will not get u 2 heaven it's repenting and totally turning from sin. I know Amy Grant is a bad example, sad.
I am sad that some people who don't know Jesus might be confused by some comments & look at Christians as mean, judgemental people. Please, God is loving and merciful. He desires that all come to Him, repent & be saved. There will be a day when the world will be judged & have to answer 4 every word, action, & thought. Also for what we neglected to do. God can forgive you. Don't know Jesus? or if you fell away from Him, God will not reject you. Whoever is born of God will not continue in sin
We need to pray for her that God would restore Amy and put her heart in the right place. We need to be sad, anguished, and sorrowful over anyone who is in error..we must pray for them! If her heart is in the wrong place or if she is in sin God will deal with her. But our job as Christians is not to throw stones but forgive and pray. If she is saying stuff that is not biblically correct then I can see why some of you have a righteous anger or frustration. God hates sin & anything false. Pray
@ToddOwenbyCCG, this song is like a Rorschach test that separates Christians from non-Christians, also distinguishing mature Christians who know God's Word from baby Christians (and non-Christians) who do not know God's Word.
The false claims of this unrepentantly immoral adulteress contradict God's Word [Rev19:6, 1Thes5:16, Phil4:4]
Don't receive false theology from this unrepentant adulteress enemy of God [James4:4] who is on her way to hell [1Cor6:9, Heb10:26-27].
THIS is a GREAT song...because the lyrics are SO REAL and it works so well musically. Although I was a bit disappointed Amy didn't write it...and that she hasn't met the writers...she does an EXCELLENT job on it...and the official video is so heart wrenching. Sometimes...especially if you're at rock bottom...there's only one way to look...and that's up, toward God...and ask for his help. THAT'S the point of this song. Nice work, Amy!
yo, bubblehead, you need to ask yourself why God so hates the actions of unrepentant adulteresses like Amy who use their celebrity to lead "little ones" into sin that He promises eternal punishment worse than a millstone round the neck in the deepest part of the sea [Luke17:1-2]. He says such unrepentant adulteresses embracing the world make themselves His enemies [James4:4], & go to hell [Heb10:26-27, 1Cor6:9] to suffer His wrath for all children of disobedience [1John3:4,8; Eph5:6, Matt7:23].
Amy, thank you for sharing your heart. ♥ I feel the same way - no matter how messed up we may be, God will still listen. Life is a process. Jesus said, "Come, follow me." We all fall. He is there to pick us up. This song reminds me of that. Your music, and your willingness to share your life with the world is brave and touches so many people. I'm sure you will always be blessed for that. Thank you, thank you - you have helped save me!
@Pam4Rob, you are in a totally scarey place!! None of the reasons God gives for your failure to hear/heed Him are good! [John8:47; John3:20; Rom1:28; 1John3:8; Rom11:8; John12:40; 2Thes2:11-12] They all end in the same place with Amy's fate, and every other unrepentant sexually-immoral child of disobedience [1Cor6:9, 1John3:4, Matt7:23, Eph5:6, Rom1:32].
God says hell is so awful that self-mutilation would be preferable [Mark9:47], yet Amy cannot even keep her fly zipped to STOP her adultery!
all I hear is judging, judging judging... God wants us to come as we are, he will make the judgement call, and you can put any scripture you like on here, all I see is judgement!!! Your judging probably without even realising it.. GOD is the only one that can judge me,and everyone else, so bite your tongues.!
@jamesasbatman, Christians are people who believe God and love Him. Amy does neither. God tells us who loves Him and who doesn't [John14:21-24]. He says hell is so bad that self-mutilation is preferable to going there [Matt18:8-9], but Amy obviously doesn't believe Him. She not only wouldn't pluck out an eye, she couldn't even keep her fly zipped to stem the lusts of her heart. [Heb10:26-27, 1Cor6:9, 1John3:4, Matt7:23]
Because you're ashamed of God's Word, He will be ashamed of you [Mark8:38].
this song is about us crying out to God and being real with Him. God would rather hear our prayers and how much we love him and need him, than just saying Hallelujah out of our mouths. He wants our hearts.
just listening to alot of the comments about this song and singer makes me very asamed of being a christian, l love God and understand what this song is about. A lot of you christians on here sound so hateful and heartless!! Whats wrong with you People? Why are you stones at your own people? WE all have hidden problems. We are called to love one another.
Guys, try not to confuse the song as a "literal" thing, confusing everyone else, theologically. But the song is more symbolic. God would rather have you open up everything how you really feel, rather than just hide it and pretend as if nothing happened. He's all ears. This is what the song is conveying.
@timwhippo, are you saying that salaino1452 is a hypocrite because he is an unrepentant adulterer like Amy? How do you know that? Are you saying that God considers it only an eyespeck to be declared His enemy [James4:4] enroute to hell [Heb10:26-27, 1Cor6:9]? Are you claiming that God does not mean what He says about John the Baptist [Matt11:11], and that God is lying at Mark8:38 and Rev21:8?
Why would God say John12:48, John7:24, 1Cor6:3, Luke19:40 if He meant for His disciples to be mutes?
1Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
@robertslistening, what's so wonderful about being declared by God to be His enemy [James4:4] bound for hell [Heb10:26-27, 1Cor6:9]? What's so wonderful about destroying two families in direct disobedience of God [Mark10:12, 1Cor7:10-11]? What's so wonderful about modeling adultery and disobedience of God to little ones [Luke17:1-2]? What's so wonderful about spreading false theology that claims wails like those in hell are a pleasant melody to God, better than a hallelujah [1Thes5:16, Rev19:6]?
I think she's a wonderful person. There are a lot of pressures in the music industry, as well as on family members from being away. It's too bad Amy doesn't have the voice she had when she was younger, but it happens to all singers. Her ears probably don't hear as well as they used to either from all the loud concerts. Some of my favorites are "love has a hold on me", "Galileo", "I will remember you" and "Prince of Peace...which she sings with wonderful feeling." She still has lots left.
Beautiful song .... but on the name i agree with salaino1452 it should have been called 'better than a fake halleluyah' ... --- to mak i sound understandable for everyone cuz otherwise sum people are getting it the wrong way round ...
Wow, this is creepy, yeeeaaawhooo is taking up the whole comments page on this Amy Grant video too! That's kind of sad that you look up her videos only to spend days arguing that Amy Grant will go to hell. How utterly pathetic!
@diamonddhk222, you have a great amount of study to do to show yourself approved! You've not even risen to the level yet that God could say to you Heb5:12.
As you prefer barmaids to God's Word, falsely accusing Him of "legalism" so as to deny, ignore, disparage, or pervert His Commandments as becomes the children of disobedience, who give their erect middle fingers to His Commandments, including at 1Cor7:10-11 and Exo20:14, then you likely will get to share Amy's fate [Heb10:26-27, 1Cor6:9].
So, you are mistaken GOD DOES NOT take pleasure in hearing our braking hearts and suffers. What He does love is thay thru our misery when we call out to Him for help. Like I said, that proves we trust Him, and He only has the desire to comfort and heal us. He certainly hates tears and mourning, becuz that's jus the result of sin & He is against sin & didn't create it. he doesn't like the fact that we cry, BUT the fact that we yuen to him wen we are in pain. U r just misunderstanding!!
@samwisegingy how am I suppose to directly know what God felt?? I am obviously nit Him. This song says God is pleased when we cry out to Him becuz that means we lean on Him& place our trust in Him. THATS what He wants. U r misunderstanding. In the Bible Jesus says that wen our hearts break, His breaks EVEN more ecuz He UNDERSTANDS wat we feel. How does he understand? Simple:He has dealt CRUCIFIXION & even had God turn in Him while He was crucified. Thats the WORST feeling anyone can go thru.
Is it the law that puts criminals to death? No, its their crimes. Can you say law is evil and vicious because it punishes people who have committed crimes?
It is not God who brings misery and death to us. It's our sins.
So why do innocent people die? Because death was brought to earth ever since the first man has sinned. One man's sin brings death to all of us.
And for the same reason, one sacrifice brings eternal life to all of us who believes in Him.
This song should be called "better than a FAKE Hallelujah". Don't say Hallelujah if you don't mean it, because then you'll be saying it wrong.
A real Hallelujah means that no matter how screwed up we are we always know that there is a God who loves us and there is Jesus who offered us salvation, so that we may say Hallelujah even in the hardest of times simply because we know He's there and we know we are saved.
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I'll say it again. Rejoice!" - Philippians 4:4
@salaino1452 1Judge not, that ye be not judged.
@salaino1452 5Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
@timwhippo I don't like to be called a hypocrite, but I know you didn't mean it. I was not trying to cast out any mote out of anybody's eye, I was offering my opinion. I was not calling Amy Grant a hypocrite either, I'm sorry if you got that from my comment, I was only saying what I believe the songwriter meant. If you disagree, tell me why so I perhaps can learn from you.
@salaino1452 I agree with you I dislike this song and always will. I am more of a newsboys fan but I will listen to any Christian song expect this one.
There is one thing I find amusing about the: "If there is a God, how could He allow such human misery?" crowd. And that is the concept that God is somehow supposed to be some sort of a cross between a super-magician and a Santa Claus figure who somehow only does good things, and surely such a God could not possibly allow pain or suffering. Such a shallow attitude is amusing but also nothing short of pathetic.
@SamWiseGingy no war and all evils of the world are result of original sin He doesnt revel in them or enjoy seeing our pain...think of it as a parent sometimes you watch ur children make mistakes but u take the decision to let them learn from it
No war is not the result of the misbehavior of two naked teenagers in the Garden of Eden. Your explanation of war implies that it necessary to the human condition.
Your explanation of war based on mythology and irrationality goes a long to explain why have so much war in human history. Religion/faith doesn't stop wars, but it may likely cause them.
@SamWiseGingy i never said it stopped war i wld be as stupid as u clearly think i am to believe that war isnt necessary to the human condition but it is the human condition irrational as it may seem some ppl feel the need to prove to the rest of the world that they have huge balls regardless of how many peopl happen to die needlessly in the process it isnt right and it isnt fair but neither is poverty natural disasters peodophilia or serial killing i dont condone it and sadly i cant stop it :(
@SamWiseGingy Why do you keep using the word "allow"?
God gives us all the freedom to choose.
The war going on comes from some human who thought that it would be the only way that peace would be gained. Once that decision was taken, God had nothing to do with it. The place then belonged to the devil who feeds on war that causes so many deaths.
A decision taken WITH God will always bring peace.
@SamWiseGingy you seem to delight in going around bashing anything you don't agree with. Are you so insecure that you have to try to prove that you're right and everyone else is wrong? I'll tell you what I often tell my grandson when he hollers "Don't want it!". ..if you don't want it, then don't have it.
If you honestly don't like this song, then don't listen to it. But stop trying to shove your philosophy down people's throats. The song is what it is. Accept it and move on.
God needs no one to really explain how he does his work and why. he chooses to do so with certain people. in the Bible it says we wil endure test and trials. the reason why he allows this is to strenthn our characters and strenthn our trust in him :) it's something you learn personally :D
@login3132 So we human misery because it is useful to God. There you said it. But would mean God is a vicious monster. You can't look at the earth quake in Japan and all of the misery and tell me a loving god did that. If you can you are irrational.
@SamWiseGingy Who knows why the tsunami happened? What was God's plan, only He knows. We cant even understand His complexity & how He works, & yet we dont deserve an explanation. I do believe however natural disasters can be a 'wakeup call' for the world, to quickly receive salvation for incase we might die suddenly. It can also be discipline for us. When you did something bad, your parents should discipline you. Not out of hate but love so you will learn from your mistakes. God is the same.
You are irrational. Your faith explains nothing. All you have is terror of your god who acts capriciously if he acts at all.
Your superstitions will receive no quarter in my mind. The dreadful part is that those superstitions have found quarter in your mind and the mind of billions of humans all these years.
Besides that you still didn't answer the question. Was your god pleased by the cries of misery from those suffering because of the earth quake and tsunami in Japan or not? According to this song your god would have heard a symphony. Do you agree with that thought. If you do then your god is a monster. If you don't then why do you believe in your god?
@SamWiseGingy That's not what the song means. She's singing about having an honest conversation with God about what you've done wrong, about repenting and coming back to God or asking him to come into your heart.About asking for forgiveness. Pouring out all of the things you're ashamed of.Talking to Him about what you did wrong. She isn't saying that God see's their cries(those who were in the earthquake) for help as a symphony. I agree with what @sailano1415 said.
HMMMMM...I didn't realize Amy didn't write this song... Just comes to show there are a lot of people behind the scenes who are incredibly talented but are often times "forgotten" !! I'm a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/arranger and can REALLY appreciate the simplicity but impact of the lyrics/music of this song!! Amy has done a FINE job singing it too! Luc
I LOVE AMY!!! ROCK ON WOMAN!! What a gift you have shared with us in recording this song!! My favorite on the album!! God bless you!! You are a REAL CHRISTIAN!!
Amy Grant can open the Door that Allows us to Feel the Love of God and His Son, Yeshua. This song gives us the Honest Truth... The True Christian is not within the walls of a mankind church. Amy Grant has gotten me through some very tragic times in dealing with my Christianity and Standing against organized religion to stay True to The God of Heaven. It will be a Pleasure to meet her at the Main Gate at a Later Date. Would Vince Gill please post a video of the song "One"...?

As the putrid stench of their disobedient, on-going adultery rises to the throne of God, Dim Tim & Karen Ann scream “But, we’re married!”
God declares, “No! You’re not!” [Mark10:12, 1Cor7:10-11, Rom7:3, Luke16:18]
DT & KA shout, “The world agrees with us!”
But God says, “Children of disobedience who embrace the world make themselves My enemies.” [James4:4, 1John3:4,8]
KA/DT responds, “But, you are the god of FORGIVENESS!”
God: “There is NO redemption without repentance!” [Heb10:26-27, Matt7:23]

this song is about us crying out to God and being real with Him. God would rather hear our prayers and how much we love him and need him, than just saying Hallelujah out of our mouths. He wants our hearts.

God does not like misery. Read John 3:16.

A song that admits that God gets pleasure from human misery is interesting indeed.
At last Christians admit it.
God has to allow war to have communion with humanity?
SamWiseGingy 1 year ago 3
@SamWiseGingy no war and all evils of the world are result of original sin He doesnt revel in them or enjoy seeing our pain...think of it as a parent sometimes you watch ur children make mistakes but u take the decision to let them learn from it
aqu1r3 1 year ago
@aqu1r3
SamWiseGingy 1 year ago
@SamWiseGingy i never said it stopped war i wld be as stupid as u clearly think i am to believe that war isnt necessary to the human condition but it is the human condition irrational as it may seem some ppl feel the need to prove to the rest of the world that they have huge balls regardless of how many peopl happen to die needlessly in the process it isnt right and it isnt fair but neither is poverty natural disasters peodophilia or serial killing i dont condone it and sadly i cant stop it :(
aqu1r3 1 year ago
@SamWiseGingy Why do you keep using the word "allow"?
God gives us all the freedom to choose.
The war going on comes from some human who thought that it would be the only way that peace would be gained. Once that decision was taken, God had nothing to do with it. The place then belonged to the devil who feeds on war that causes so many deaths.
A decision taken WITH God will always bring peace.
Read Isaiah 48:18, Psalm 29:11, and Matthew 5:9.

Momthing2010 11 months ago
@Momthing2010
I haven't bashed anyone.
You just can't explain how your creator god allows such human misery, so you have to imply that your god actually likes misery.
So be it.
SamWiseGingy 11 months ago 18
@SamWiseGingy
God needs no one to really explain how he does his work and why. he chooses to do so with certain people. in the Bible it says we wil endure test and trials. the reason why he allows this is to strenthn our characters and strenthn our trust in him :) it's something you learn personally :D
login3132 11 months ago
@login3132 So we human misery because it is useful to God. There you said it. But would mean God is a vicious monster. You can't look at the earth quake in Japan and all of the misery and tell me a loving god did that. If you can you are irrational.
SamWiseGingy 11 months ago 9
@SamWiseGingy Who knows why the tsunami happened? What was God's plan, only He knows. We cant even understand His complexity & how He works, & yet we dont deserve an explanation. I do believe however natural disasters can be a 'wakeup call' for the world, to quickly receive salvation for incase we might die suddenly. It can also be discipline for us. When you did something bad, your parents should discipline you. Not out of hate but love so you will learn from your mistakes. God is the same.
xTHiNkPiNk 10 months ago
@xTHiNkPiNk
You are irrational. Your faith explains nothing. All you have is terror of your god who acts capriciously if he acts at all.
Your superstitions will receive no quarter in my mind. The dreadful part is that those superstitions have found quarter in your mind and the mind of billions of humans all these years.
SamWiseGingy 10 months ago 6
@xTHiNkPiNk
