It did but in a way it's good that it didn't win because then we couldn't decide whether it was Yugoslavia or Croatia that won. It happened in 1989 in fact (with a not a very deserving song unlike this one) but those were the last days of Yugoslavia so ESC was held in Zagreb in 1990 rather than in Belgrade.
HILJADUDEVESTOTINASHEZDESETIOSMA!!!!)
Vi Hrvati ste generalno govoreci jedan veoma nacionalistican i tezak karakter(izuzet dalmatinci).
@atsinumok: Nikada vise diktatura.
octobre59, you have a good point. It's good to see that someone appreciates good music. This group has a sound all their own. All of their songs are terrific------Adio Mare, Dok Palme Njisu Grane, Tiho Je Negdje Svirala Mandoline, Spavaj, Spavaj Draga, Nocna Muzika (La Music di Notte), Marijana,Luda Mladost, Znam Da Ima Jedna Staza and the song that says it all..., Pusit Da Ti Leut Svira. This group, led by famous composer, Delo Jusic is Dubrovnik's pride and joy. Zivili Trubaduri!
in case somebody didn't know, this entry was a very strong favorite for winning that year. (They actually won after the general rehearsal voting!) I think they only didn't win because in 1968. it was not suitable for a communist country to win.
Nikada to nisam vidio u boji.Zaista raritet iz doba prije kućnih videorekordera.Mislim dasu to Hamo Hajdarhodžić(danas već pokojni?!) i Luciano Carpuso
Hvala Bogu, Luci je jos ziv i ponekad pjeva skupa sa Markom stare Trubadurske pjesme. Djelo i dalje se bavi muzikom. Marko ima jazz bar "Trubadur" i Luci ima Kafic "Libertina".
I'm a big fan of the Dubrovacki Trubaduri ever since I saw them on TV in 1968, when I was 11. Did I get it right that you are a friend of them and you know them personally? Please let them know that they still have fans in Germany (at least me). Some of them still appear on TV every now and then? And Hamo Hajdarhodzic already passed away? How sad. Is there any chance to get photos, autographs or cds of these wonderful singers? Bye from Germany
Zivili Trubaduri! And for those who don't know the history of this fantastic group of musicians (including costumes) you're missing out on something special.
Great song but what ruined it was the costumes. If these guys had dropped the on stage flute, non sensical medieval attire and dressed in trendy suits and sunglasses they would have stormed to victory!
Clearly you dont comprahend that the 'attire' is relevant to the group. In english Trubaduri is Troubadour.. Its not nonsensical its a reference to their name!!
And as for the flute (or Frula) is a traditional Trubadour instrument AND its one of the most commonly played instruments in Croatian & Serbian music so it is fitting.
OK - I didn't 'comprehend' (note spelling) the lyrics what I did understand was the very 1960s rhythm, arrangement and harmony of the song for which the costumes were an anachronism. I still think its a great song though.
Peace!
The rules didn't allow the bands to perform. That's why "Trubaduri" needed to appear as Luci Kapurso and Hamo Hajdarhodžić. And how great they was, proves the fact that this live performance of theirs sounds almost the same as the studio recorded version! And yes, this song is still very interesting and can be heard now and then, as opposed to majority of Yugoslav representatives through 60s and 70s whose songs are almost forgotten nowadays.
I have watched Eurovision ever since I was very young, (many moons ago) and this was always my all-time favourite song. I was so pleased to find that someone had placed it on Youtube, so that I could enjoy it again.
This song was very appreciated in Portugal at the time and about five years later the Troubadors were still invited to perform on a TV programme here, in spite of there not being diplomatic relations between both countries until 1974. The same happened with Tereza (Yugoslavia 1972), who took part on a Portuguese TV programme in 1973.
Bravo DANIELcroatia! You are right. The clothes are costumes from troubadours from medevial times in Dubrovnik. Trubaduri won many awards. I can assure you that the dancing does not mean anything other than feeling the rhythm. I know them personally. They are NOY gay!
