One I was a little girl and I was playing with snow outside and a VERY hard block of ice droped from the tree above me , hit my hand I saw red stuff in the snow and it was blood and I relized 4 of my finger nails came off and I SCREAMED THE HOLE STREET COULD HEAR ME!

Lucky for you, the left arm is the arm most people lose or get it amputated! You lost your finger on you left arm so if you do lose you left arm later in life then your right arm will be perfectly fine!

I lost my middle finger when I was 2. Someone left their bike in the garden and while my mum was at the toilet I toddled over and put my finger in the cog and the chain crunched it off . . . . thankfully I don't remember a thing!

narly man hope your ok about it, a while back i nearly cut my finger off. i had surgery and have a huge nasty ass scar now but they managed to repair the tendon i cut through and thanks to a lot of physio its fully functioning now... just goes all blue when its cold lol

i just cut my finger about 2 1/2 months back.the index finger through the nail..jacked it up pretty good like the whole side of it got practically almost cut off.I was helping my dad get a cab taking off a hose an he handed me a pocket knife non lock blade..and me not thinking stabbed the hose an it clamped shut on my finger.My writing index finger to..luckly i missed the bone an tendons but i got a big nasty scar an numbness..plus its always stiff an just looks horrible..but accidients do happ

To anyone else who ends up in a similar situation, don't let it get you down. Finger injury is extremely common and effects more people than you might first think. One week after surgery, I was already approached by ten people asking me what I did and how I did it, telling me that they suffer with it too.

I nearly chopped my index finger off a couple of months ago, I'm lucky I still have it but I only have about 20% movement. :(

@VWLPT mine was attached for 6 months. the limited movement (as in your case) forced me to have them re-remove it. It was the right decision.

I can totally sympathise with that decision. I've been going through physio for a few months now (ever since I had the operation) and I'm starting to see improvement, but hell is it slow. My finger feels less like a finger and more like a rusty gate, but we'll see how it goes. Hopefully I can make a somewhat decent recovery over the next couple of years, but I can't say that I haven't thought about amputation. It would make things so much easier than having a claw for a finger.

@VWLPT After a few months your progress really tapers off. unless you really need that digit for your livelihood (concert pianist) I can tell you that you won't miss it as much as you'd think. At first I was 100% against amputation, but I was back on my bike 3 days after they removed it for good. people dig the stump, they were afraid of the claw :)

Have you ever looked at the X-Finger? They're really impressive, mechanical prosthetic fingers. They cost a bomb but the technology is amazing, it's surprising to see such technology exists in prosthetics. It makes me feel better just knowing it exists.
