I love Carol King and her music. She defined my life when I was a young man. My friends from then are gone from my life. I miss them as I do my youth when this song was composed. Carmen P Monroe
Omg,I heard this song ONCE years ago.I never heard it again.I can't believe I can still remember the tune fairly well. Why is it that I can remember things like that, but I can't remember where I left my keys two minutes ago? patybear
I think I heard that her "Tapestry" album was the number one selling album by a female artist for 20 years or so. My older sisters played it over and over.....and I think the whole family has her songs imbedded in our brains. She is truly an amazing artist.
I was 13 when this album was new. Tapestry, So Far Away, and High out of Time make me ache for the past, but appreciate the present. Jazzman and You've Got a Friend are also favorites. Thank you, Carol, for the gift you continue to share with us.
One of the greatest female artist of the century, I met Carol King backstage in 1979 at alpine valley resort I originally went there to see Chicago it turned out they were the warm up band for Carol, lol her being the main act I was floored! Chicago did locomotion together with Carol, she was very humorous with the guys because they could not dance, it was hilarious and fun. Today Carol King is still a Class act. Success never spoiled Carol she is a legend...bless her where ever she may be.
My brother, sister and I all have wildly differing tastes in music, and we spent an hour recently arguing that there was no way we'd be in posession of any CD that the others also had. 'Tapestries' was the one that proved us wrong.
I sung this song with my school choir in Grade 8. I'm now in Grade 12, and I still remember it. I'm going to ask my choir director if we can bring it back before I leave :)
@Gunner193 Well, Gunner, DO NOT reply with music. If you do not know her music, then you have a choice to make. If you don't care enough to go on with this girl, then cut the two of you loose and move on. If you do care truly about her (assuming she is not a psycho) then listen, and make a time to get together in a neutral place to talk about the music and lyrics. Crisis is crisis. A sudden sexy make-up won't help. Good luck from a mature (very---OMG how did that happen?) person....
@ja3399 Thank you for your kind advice, ja, even if it's come after everything was said and done.
We sat, and talked. She exposed her fears, and I exposed mine. And we discovered most of them had no real base to exist. We decided to have a little time to set our priorities straight, and we are together again, more closely than ever before.
We're not hormone-addled teenagers. We are adults in our thirties, and we know we really love each other now. The tapestry has unraveled to the last strand...
For in the end, a tapestry is just that, a tapestry. A bunch of colored fabric strands woven together. Real life is out there, waiting to be lived, and its end doesn't have to be like that of a fairy tale shown on a glorified carpet.
I'm told this is about Sandman. (Judging by the first two volumes, I guess the bearded guy would be Destiny.) If this is about Sandman, could someone tell me what book this occurs in?
At all the ridiculous rantings on this beautiful video and brilliant singer-songer..please go to twitter and go for it. I watch YouTubbe for new music, classics I;ve never been afforded to see and enjoy myself. I also occasionally learn something about an artist I respect. Please stay on topic you ADD trolls..thank you
In 1976, I bought this song in a cassette..although I couldn't afford it the time, it seemed it took forevr to own this song for my happy ears...Yes, shallow was the right word coz I was so easy to please.
an amazing songwriter who wrote so many #1 hits for others.....I still have my album of Rhymes & Reasons and play the cd often.....thanks for posting this!!!
Got hooked on Carole King during Christmas season 5th grade. Went to the Manchester Library and took out the Tapestry album. Been a favorite ever since!
IF YOU LIKE MUSIC YOU MUST OWN THIS ALBUM---IT MUST BE WELL WORN---MAYBE --IT SKIPS HERE OR THERE ---THATS OK-----CAUSE IT DOESNT GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS
@daverp1913 ... Well said my friend... Literally wore this album out twice on 8-track and had the LP... both long gone... Oh how I wish I would have kept them... But have the album on CD... OK but there was something "MAGIC" about shoving that 8-track into the Muncie under the dash... Cruisin the gut in my 67 Chevelle SS 396.. Bell Bottoms.. Pooka Shells.. Waffle stompers and of Course Carole King singing Tapestry... So thank you daverp1913 for your "HEARTFELT" comment.. This is "THE BEST"
@TheSilmarillian .. It was a real status symbol to have a "MUNCIE" 8-track under the dash.. You remember the match books to slip and the 8-track tape so they would'nt drag.... and bangin em on your leg a couple times so they wouldn't squeek.. Life was so simple then.. I have to laugh because now I listen to these songs on a 6-disc player in my $95,000 Jaguar XK-8 Convertible 1200 watts of power 16 speakers.. accoustcally balanced with factory subs..All Alpine.. How times have changed..
@marisadaniela6 .. I don't even remember talking to you... By the way... I paid "CASH" for the car...I guess life "SUCKS" to be "BROKE" and jealous...
@RICKzzSANDS the reason your old ass doesn't remember talking to me is because you didn't, the internet is an open forum where anyone can choose to make whatever comment they will to your disgusting arrogance. My point is, even when you are called out for being so completely shallow as to post to the world how much you paid for your unecessarily luxurious vehicle whilst fellow humans STARVE TO DEATH ON OUR PLANET, you continue to display your superficiality by boasting that it was paid for, cash
@RICKzzSANDS And, by the way, WHAT is with your quotation marks? Carole King would be disgraced by your grammar. That is, "DISGRACED" by your "GRAMMAR"
@marisadaniela6... It's very apparent by listening to you "RANT", that there are a lot of "WACK" jobs on the internet, and you are one of them. I have more class in the tip of my litle finger than you have in your whole body, and that little tiny pea brain of yours. I happen to run an International telecommunications and energy service business, and run with people like Donald Trump, while we have you wackos on the internet adding "nothing" to society.. Did your mother have any kids that lived??
@RICKzzSANDS My favorite part of all your comments is how you refuse to actually address anything that's being said against you, for example, your heinous misuse of quotation marks which continues into this last post. This luckily saves me from having to defend myself against your "pea brain" remark, as surely the more intelligent members of the internet audience can easily see that you fail to understand my critiques on your grammar. (See last sentence for CORRECT usage of quotation marks...)
since i was so young when i used to play this song, i never knew what it was about. now i can see its about dying. yikes. tapestry unravelling is a great metaphor.

@Tharkun Sandman's debut was 1988; Tapestry was released 1971. Unless Gaiman is a closet King fan, it's unlikely there's a connection.
