@DanFrederiksen Gasoline engines produce more power, so supercars still use gasoline engines. The Tesla is not a supercar, and neither is the Fisker Karma. They rely on minimizing weight to make up for a significant lack of Hp, whereas true supercars are lightweight and have high Hp. Simply put, the electric engine does not produce 'the goods'; it is compromised in its technological infancy. The production of efficient power is still the domain of big gasoline engines; accept it.
@scaryGTM the tesla is 1200kg. hardly light. and 3.8seconds to 100km/h is kinda super car territory whether your ignorant obtuse self likes it or not.
and the tesla has a 38kg motor in it. how much does a typical V8 weigh?
what do you think happens when we double that motor size? is 1.9 seconds super car territory? and what happens when it's 200kg battery instead of the 450 in the tesla.
there's an electric motorcycle running 7 second quarter mile. that's fast isn't it?
@DanFrederiksen So what top speed does the Tesla have? 130 Mph? NOT a supercar - regardless of how little the little electric motor weighs. The beginning of this technology is nowhere. It's not serious and does not rival the cost:power:efficiency:longevity of a high-performing V8 engine. There's a LONG way to go, and until then big displacement rules supreme or you'd see the likes of Lamborghini using it or talking about it. The electric dream is just that, a dream.
@DanFrederiksen I want to see the first electric "supercar" deemed 'serious' pace its competitors and win on 24 hours of Le Mans. Until this is achieved, it is not remotely credible to use the words 'electric' and 'super' in the same sentence.
@DanFrederiksen 24 Heures Du Mans. The gauntlet has been dropped. Gasoline engines do it and excel at it. Electric engines have a lot to prove in order to compete, and no other YouTube video links detract from that.
@DanFrederiksen The video shows an impressive acceleration and anyone interested in speed would admit that, but a supercar or racing car encompasses more than acceleration. This is why I insist that the racing benchmark of Le Mans 24 remains just that, a benchmark by which electric performance must approach to rival what gasoline-powered performance achieves in a true supercar.
@scaryGTM I've had this conversation many times. I'm an EVangelist and this isn't my first rodeo. you don't bring up Le Mans because it's a reasonable benchmark, you mindlessly reach for it because in your haste you thought it would be so difficult that you can go back to sleep and forget about this scary intruder into your ignorant world that is the electric car.
Endurance racing isn't its strongest suit but it can do even that. with battery swaps. not that you want the challenge to be met.
@DanFrederiksen There's no 'mindlessly reaching for anything'. You compete or you don't. End of story. Don't arrogantly presume to define the limitations of my argument for a technology which competes versus one which doesn't. Battery swaps would be fine, although battery recharging would seem more practical in the same way a gasoline car refuels, but regardless there is no electric vehicle or technology which can compete in the benchmark of competitive racing. Period.
@DanFrederiksen It is you who panics to produce 'evidence' of 'competition' with Youtube video links, when there clearly is none. "Scary Intruder"? Don't be ridiculous. The track is the proving ground where the fearful do not compete, or even try to.
@scaryGTM the GTM in this video has a little logo on its back of the nordschleife. would you accept defeat if an electric car shatters the records there?
@DanFrederiksen The only benchmark is Le Mans 24. It is what it is for a reason, and it has been the definition of competitive racing for decades. Car manufacturers have desperately attempted to score victories with their racing cars in order to attach credibility to their forecourt performance brands. There is no other benchmark for performance and endurance. I'm sorry, but a Youtube video of an electric car doing a circuit or two does not fulfill the criteria.
@DanFrederiksen The GTM in this video WILL lap any Tesla or electric car you wish to introduce. An LS-7 engined GTM will produce a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 210 Mph. The result is inevitable in performance and endurance. For you to state otherwise is pure nonsense.
@DanFrederiksen If/when the 'revolution' takes place, an electric specimen will show its colors and meet the time-honored benchmarks set by gasoline racing car performance on its own turf. Until that happens, it's all dreaming, theory and propaganda. Names of 'impressive' electric specimens are autotech-porn for those keen to seduce themselves by the dream of it. When EVs prove themselves on the world's most famous test of speed and endurance, I assume we'll all hear about it.
@DanFrederiksen If you insist on eco-fad power units, you may like to know that the same car has been fitted with a turbine engine. Search "CAPSTONE CMT380 BLACKBIRD TURBINE HYBRID ELECTRIC CAR"; it's a GTM with a turbine engine. It's a demonstration for people like you, but big gasoline Hp from big gasoline V8s is just fine for those who appreciate just how efficient and powerful a well-developed gasoline engine is - after all, it represents decades of development.
@shanemacc Agreed. The words 'kit car' have a certain (bad) quality connotation. The FF GTM breaks the mold as far as that goes, so the term doesn't really fit.
I'm one of the drivers of the Factory sponsered GTM. The worlds only race GTM that is currently being fielded. These cars are beyond fun to drive. You can see some of our in car videos by searching "durbin gtm" or just "myraceshop". These really are race cars that can be driven on the street!
@AchimF355 Nice GTM! You been taking on the nurburgring? What kind of times has it been able to pull? I am really liking the second gen GTM from Factory 5 but I am not sure what the track times would be like.
@TypeRacer8 dankje wel:). heb ik al een tijdje nu en ik gebruik nog gewoon men foto toestel.alleen ik heb een programma gekregen waarmee ik men filmpjes maak en ik ze ook gelijk in HD kan zetten
@umbertino6 It does sound great, doesn't it? And as for it being a 'kit car', you'd never even know by the way some are built and perform. What a car. Just why would anyone want a Saleen S7 over a nicely built GTM.....
