It was a design for a canard delta interceptor. The J-9 was initiated in the 1960's. The J-9 and J-10 were designed by the same company too. So I think it is safe to say the J-10 inherited the design of the J-9, not any of the european planes.

What a death trap. You can see the structural integrity is bad while it is moving around on the ground.
Man look at the deflection in the wings in flight.
The missile ignites directly from the wing almost covering the cockpit in smoke and is a great way to lose a wing in a misfire.
Who uses parachutes these days to stop an aircraft?
You can see it is hard to control on landing.
And that is one butt ugly aircraft.
Other than that, good for them.

Gun Powder (discovered totally by accident as a "cure" for old age, Compass (1st used by Mesoamericans, not Chinese),
Printing (Horrible, impractical method that were vastly improved by Europeans)
Being Invaded has NOTHING to do with technological development. Look at Japan, it was Nuked Twice, and recovered very quickly.
