  • Maybe you can take me here after I take you to lunch... some day. Favorite LA spot? I think mine, aside from anywhere with friends, or on any beach, would be in front of one of Monet's studies of light in the Getty. I could stay there all day. Pleas, please, please don't say LACMA!

  • there is a self realisation centre in somerset in the uk, it is so spiritually charged that people feel a deep sense of peace just walking through the gardens.

love light and peace to all

    Paul

  • aww. ^_^

    that made me happy.

    you make me happy. ^_^

thanks for taking me somewhere I hope to go to later in life. hopefully, we can meet up and go to it together! ;-)

    Love ya!

    Peter

  • Its Weed

  • Duuuude! lol

  • your friend cracks me up. i don't think the shrine could make me ok w/ gun control.

that really seems like a nice place. this vid came up related to mine. kind of goes w/ what we were talking about bringing them together. kewl vid.

  • Thanks - yeah, I guess it all does really tie in.

That's why I like this shrine. It's just THERE to be experienced any which way that works for the individual visitor. Even the one time I took a guided tour, there was no preaching of any kind. It was just a stroll through the grounds and a history lesson on how the place came to be.

  • that sounds fun, especially where you have studied religions anyway.

  • Re: the ashes and not connecting with them..but still finding them 'symbolic' kind-of-thing in a positive way... I guess I feel the same way when I go to a cemetery. Both my parents are gone now..and I know that they're not actually there in those places of stone and granite..and artificial flowers and recycled coffee jars with ripped-labels, filled with water and someone's front garden cuttings. I don't go often anymore. But I still go.

Wild stab: Could the scent have been lemon verbena?

  • certainly did seem like a peaceful place

  • That looks like a very pretty area.

  • The video would have been about three times as long if I'd shown everything. So I may just have to go back and record some more.

    :-)

  • What a wonderful place - thank you Curt!

  • That is a lovely place. I remember seeing a video you did of this place a while back (with Al maybe). Your friend from WA is a funny guy. Just like you :-)

  • Yep, back in February or March, 2007. Al wasn't with me for that, though. In fact, I don't know that he's even been there yet.

    He'd love it!

  • Thanks for the beautiful video! Next time I get down that way I will have to make a point of going to the shrine.

  • It's definitely worth driving out of the way to see. Best times are early just when they first open (parking lot is small, so it fills up quickly sometimes).

  • What a beautiful place!! Thanks for taking us along! Blessings, Grams

  • You're welcome - thanks for surfing over to be taken.

wait... that doesn't sound right! LOL

  • Wow! That place does look fantastic. Wish I could be in a place like that all the time. Thanks for sharing Curt!

    *smiles*

    Angel

  • Hey Angel!

    Thanks for watching

    :-)

  • Really cool spot!! It's beautiful there!! Could the smell be honeysuckle?? lol :P

  • I am not at all religeous, but I am a spiritual person and that garden was absolutely wonderful. I'm only surprised John Lennon wasn't in there too!

  • Ooh, good question. I've heard and read that George Harrison spent time here, but I don't know about Lennon. Seems like Yoko probably would have at least tried to take him here once or twice.

  • That shrine looks very nice. Thanks for taking the rest of us along with you. : )

  • Such a beautiful place. If I'm not mistaken I think there's a picture of you at this place... you use to have it on your stickam account

  • Good memory! Yeah, it was from my first visit to the lake in 2006. I still have the photo, but I don't have as much hair as I had in the photo.

  • That's odd... and I've gained hair since 2006.

    Wanna trade???

  • Just send me the shavings. I'll look for an evil scientist to handle the grafting procedure.

  • I really felt the emotion in this. So well done. thank you

  • i need to be there.

    thanks so much for sharing.

  • I plan to share more of this place at some point. Glad you liked!

  • Love, not judgment, should be all Christians' aspiration.

As Ghandi said "I like Christ, but not so much Christians."

    Beautiful garden.

  • Ah yes.. a nice peaceful calm oozes off the place! Makes me want chicken Pad thai with peanuts for some reason?? wrong country? mmmm pad thai

  • Ahhh, what a lovely space. Thanks for taking us along.

    I feel more peaceful already.

    Big hugs to you... :0)

  • Wow! It's finally in HQ! That's crazy how long it took.

  • That was the unmistakable aroma of Mohandas Gandhi's spiritual enlightenment (or some kid smoking reefer behind that bush over yonder...)

  • Why doesn't my comment post??? feh!

  • That was so peaceful Curt. Where those pansy's towards the end? When I lived in Maine, every Memorial and Labor Day we would plant those in front of my Mothers grave. They always looked so beautiful.

  • I think they were pansies, yep.

They make a good choice for grave sites, really lighten things up at a place like that.

*Hope you're making the most of spring break!*

    :-)

  • Thanks Curt, yes I am...only a few days left and back to the grind on Monday! It went by so fast, I wish the weather had been better.

  • what a lovely atmosphere. thats the sorta place i'd go to for inspiration.

  • So beautiful.

  • (((Gina)))

  • Nice place, nice idea right in the midst of that crazy, uptempo place - and Kevin MacLeod's music helps set some of the mood too. What would YOU and YouTube do without these free music folks? Nice video. Nice thought.

  • Heehee - yep, both Incompetech and Audionautix have been making this possible for the last couple years.

Nice to see you around the Tubes.

    :-)

  • A very cool video, but have to tell you that when I saw the link on Twitter I thought it said "Lake Shirley Temple."

    BTW: Luke was a plagiarist)

  • Luke Shirley Temple was a plagiarist?

...he sounds kinda like a drag queen, actually...

  • Very peaceful!

  • Thanks for taking us there too! I'd prefer it without the man-made stuff though, I think.

  • I think a good portion of this place is man-made, so to speak. The lake was already there, but the landscaping and such was someone's handy work (I forget the exact history all of a sudden).

  • This is awesomeness.

  • Why thank you, my dear

    :-)

  • Nice one.

  • Deleted my previous reply here.

It only 21 hours for them to convert this into HQ.

    Good grief!

  • that place is very cool indeed - used to be a movie set (go figure in the Palisades! lol) -

I think you were smelling jasmine? I think it's go to take a few visits to be at *one* with all the bonuses being handed out in the financial world!

  • It may take a few months' worth of daily visits to get beyond this latest AIG crap.

    OY!!!

And, yeah, apparently it was Jasmine.

Either that or this Luke Shirley Temple that Kenrg mentioned. We can't be sure.

  • Cool video Curt. I love seeing where you live - it's so different to here! Wanna swap?

  • *avoids answering by smiling really big*

    :-D

  • It's good when cities have retreats like that

  • Los Angeles NEEDS this, I tells ya.

    We're a hot mess!

  • ((hugs))

    *tori*

  • as a little girl ~ my Grandma always said where there is alot of prayer ~ you will smell a light sweet smell ~ one you can't exactly put your finger on , nor where it is coming from. i have experienced this many times ~ and i think ~ that's what you guys were experiencing that day..peace ~ Anne

  • that was cool as hell. I love the water fall! is that wierd? LOL

  • Beautiful place. I like that verse, as well. It reminds me of how important it is to love life itself. And, not only that but of how people can't love others until they love themselves.

    Thanks for sharing. :)

  • I love sharing things like this because L.A. is just not known for it. And for good reason, I'm afraid.

  • you guys could pass for brothers.

  • Mom will be pleased to hear this.

    *j/k*

    ;-)

  • LOL,,I didnt know you were really brothers...lol sorry, I must have mised that video.

  • Nah, nah, I was just kidding. We're not related.

My sense of humor is sometimes hard to transmit through these comment sections, sorry.

  • Thats ok,,I like having a laugh .

  • Did you drink green beer and pee in the pond... it looks green?

And that's not his ashes... it's his dog, Coco.

  • I swear that's not my pee.

I blame the ducks and swans!

  • I thought this was the one that was down by Malibu but I don't remember the waterfall. Where is this?

  • Simply beautiful!

I hope to someday smell there. : )

Btw, I agree with you about Gandhi's ashes. Not weird at all.

  • Thanks, glad I'm not alone in my reaction.

You and Steve would love this place.

    :-)

  • Yes, I'm sure we would. : )

I watched it again this time in HQ. Finally!

    Thanks for sharing! : )

  • what a cool place. never saw anything like it....thank you so much for 'taking us with'...good share.

  • That was beautiful, we're all searching for peace and tranquility, nice to know there are still places one can go to find it. At least for awhile, and that's okay, most of us will settle for that :)

  • so you said you smelt something sweet at lake shrine? i forgot to tell you, i was there when you were. it was totally me you were smelling.

    *stalk stalk stalk*

  • It's not stalking if I send you tweets telling you where I'll be.

    LULZ

*steals Nic's Snuggeh and runs - YOINK!*

  • If Timdra and I ever make it to LA again I wanna' go here! Not that your LA tour of the Hustler store and the Church of Scientology drive-by wasn't grand but I've "matured" in the past decade.

    : P

  • How about a compromise? I'll take you to this place and we'll bring Hustler magazines for when Tim gets tired of the ducks.

    :-D

  • Don't be so quick . . . I think we went to the Hustler store because I wanted to go. XD

  • Where's the water slide? Is there waterbugs? Batting cages? Any video games or air hockey?

  • for reals? never heard of this place. So Cal has EVERYTHING: Mickey Mouse and Shamu and apparently some of Gandhi's ashes.

Looks like a nice place for a gay wedding.

  • Thanks for sharing Curt, such a beautiful and tranquil place.

  • Now that looks like my kind of place. Thanks for link.

  • It has such a rich history and has been around so long; it still blows me away that I didn't know it existed until 2.5 years ago.

  • what a beautiful place.....like heaven on earth. Thanks for sharing this Curt!

  • It's one of my favorite locales here in L.A.

Thanks for watching - even though YT totally fucked up the picture quality.

*censored cursing that would scare dogs and children*

  • Just stopping by again to see if it's in HQ yet. It's pretty bad that my vlog just went into HQ after only a few minutes, and a beautiful video like this has been up for hours and hasn't went to HQ yet. Damn YouTube!

  • They're seriously pissing me off with this shit. For any other video I wouldn't have cared much, but for THIS one I really wanted HQ.

There's practically no point for it being here at all if it won't convert.

  • I wish this video was in hq! Where is this place at? In LA?

  • It's SUPPOSED to be playing at HQ by now, but YT is taking longer than usual to process that.

There's a link in the description that tells all about location, etc.

  • wow that place looks awesome! I love the waterfall

  • It's nothing less than picturesque, dat's fo sho!

  • Curt, I want you to know that yours is the first video I've watched in almost a week. It reminded me of why I joined YouTube.

I feel much more spiritual now. No really, I do! Wow...Gandhi's ashes!

Talked to Whits the other day. Were your ears burning? All good things were said.

    (((Hugs)))

    ~Mimi

  • I had extra wax in there lately, but no burning. LOL

I'm glad to hear she's still around. It's been a while since I've seen her here and sorta figured she had put the YouTube stuff behind her (some folks need to and ya gotta respect 'em for that).

Glad you enjoyed this, Mimi. I'd like to get back to making more videos along these lines, actually.

  • Yes, she's still around ( more like a silent observer).

Please do make more videos like these. But, you know me, if it has your name on it, I'll watch : )

  • You're too kind. LOL

  • ITe scent of self-realization smacks me in the face every morning when I wake up. Still don't take a shower though.

  • You and Kelley are competing for who can go the longest again??

  • I don't think she knows we are, but I'm guessing I'm kicking her ass in that department. Again.

  • Very cool, relaxing video! Is that the place where one of your Myspace pictures was taken? I seem to remember this place from when I first met you.

  • Good memory. Yeah, my profile picture at the time was from my very first visit to this place, back in 2006.

    Hey, ain't you packed yet?

    :-)

  • Haven't started yet! I might get my computer stuff ready tonight and then do laundry tomorrow night and pack. Why rush it?

  • For some reason I had it in my mind that today was Thursday - never mind.

Laundry... yes, please have clean clothes when you get to SF. We don't want Mike passing out on camera again, OKAY?!

  • You really never have a clue as to what day of the week it is, do you?

    I think I missed a video of Mike! ;)

  • I may not know what day it is, but ... well... okay, I'll think of a really awesome comeback on Friday.

    Tomorrow's Friday, right?

  • Thats a very beautiful place !

    **Kisses**

  • (((Sonia)))

    Been thinkin' about you, missy!

  • nice verse - nice video!

'nice' is such a great response when put on the spot!

  • Hahaha, I know what you mean.

Some videos are made to incite discussion, but maybe I made this one really just to entertain the senses... sometimes I'm not sure until after it's rendered, sometimes I NEVER figure it out.

  • Was it the cam or YT who botched the resolution?

I have noticed them slipping lately...

  • Curious to know more about these intense WA smells - LOL

And, nope, I rendered this in 960x540 (HQ) but YouTube is taking forever to process it so that it PLAYS high quality.

Good thing this web site is providing a FREE service!!

  • good thing we won't complain with your peaceful settings to calm us

    might stop my drunken vlogging

  • Let me tell you about the intense smells here in WA since your guest failed to... he he

    interesting video

  • It's been here for decades and yet I only found it a few years ago. Wish I'd found it sooner.

  • St. Francis of Assisi is my favorite in the garden. I'll send you the prayer named after him sometime. Didn't you go to the park last year? Anywho... I wanna go. Thanks for sharing. <3 ya

  • They had other statues as well, but I didn't know what they were (I could have asked).

And, yep, I've shot video at this place before. Had the video on my curt344 channel then didn't repost, but used the footage in a Vloggerheads vlog back in August (or September).

  • My friends and I did our share of drugs there in high school. A lot of self realization, for sure!

  • LOL, right on!

  • It's a shame that I didn't develop an appreciation for this kind of thing until I moved 2000+ miles away.

Anything else I should try to check out whenever I head back west?

  • Actually, yeah. There's the Arboretum over in Arcadia, East of SFV (off the 210 or 134, I forget which). That's a gorgeous place, about ten times the size of this.

  • I've been there, off the 210. But again, I was too young to appreciate it.

  • That's really beautiful. Maybe you can take us there when we come to California. :-)

  • I would love to take you both there.

Does this mean a trip is on the horizon?

    :-D

  • The place looks amazing.

This video had that Chicago series feel of editing.

Nice to see you back at it.

  • Thank you for noticing that, Ran.

Actually, I've been wanting to return to that kind of routine lately. Haven't really enjoyed the recent stuff as much as I enjoyed all of that.

  • I feel so more at peace in life now that I know places like that exist... pffft. Nope. Can't do it. Pretty place though.

  • Are you done editing that video yet?!

    :-P

  • I remember this place from a previous video. Still looks just as lovely now as it did then. I'm not sure it improved my thoughts about the stimulus package but it didn't make them any worse either:)

  • You have a good memory - that previous video was from just over 2 years ago.

Glad to know that my videos don't adversely impact the new administration. LOL!

  • what an interesting place! really cool.

  • I need to go back again with the camera, me thinks.

  • That looks like a nice, peaceful spot :)

  • All kinds of peaceful, yep!

  • Sort of a little heaven here on earth - Bible verses and all :)

  • That's what they're shooting for, I think. But I should've shown more than just that one plaque. They have verses from other religious texts as well. This video doesn't show it, but the whole place gives equal time to all the main religions.

    You'd love it there.

    :-)

  • I'll have to keep that in mind next time I come up your way :)

  • Speaking of which - ??

  • As the co-star of this video I must say you rocked! Great editing. I'm glad you kept some of the other smart allecky things I said out of it. I still think Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong were sitting on that bench.

  • That would explain the cloud hovering over them.

    ;-)

Thanks, Doug - glad we finally got over there to see this place!

  • Very nice curt.

  • :-)

  • Looks like an awesome place! Yayy!!!

    -- Matt

  • Very tranquil, Matt. Even when there are a lot of other people there walking around.

  • I would love to visit here. It looks like the place to go for a quiet time to think.

  • Very well put - it IS.

    :-)

  • What a beautiful place. I agree with him, the concept of the verse is great, treat those around you like you want to be treated.

    Was the smell lemony?

  • Lemony... not really. Kind of spicy almost.

NutCheese claims she farted and is taking blame.

I say we grab our torches and go after her!

  • I am kinda scared of nutcheese, I have seen what she does to her nephews who she supposedly loves.....I think I will sit this one out.

P.S. I live with 3 males, buttery farts would be heaven

  • What a lovely spot Curt ! Did you ever find out what the sweet scent was? Perhaps lavender? hugs, Chris

  • We think maybe Jasmine, but there was probably some lavender and other things too. The grounds are gorgeous!

  • I could spend the day there.

  • They have restrooms, which would help facilitate that, yes.

    :-)

  • I farted... that's what you were smelling.

  • There WAS a buttery aspect to it - this explains it!!

  • I smelt roast chicken all the way through that. Now I am heading off to eat it with some boiled foliage

  • Now I'm smelling roast chicken too.

    The power of suggestion!!

  • i wanna smell this too! :(

  • You have to pay extra for that.

  • i would! send me a package with that stuff...i wanna get high.

  • Looks a fantastic place, you have so many different kinds of plant there due to your sunny climate, kind of reminds me of the Japanese Tea Garden I visited in San Francisco one time:)

  • I've only heard about that tea garden. Hopefully I can go for an in-person look-see on my next trip up.

  • I was sort of half expecting something Japanese... :) What is this, is it a garden of tranquility and peace, for all religions, or is it focusing on the Christian beliefs, as the sign was typical of? Just curious.. I'm no doubt very tired, or my mind's just not connecting.. but I sort of failed in understanding exactly what it is.. which is not in any way your fault, it's just me, right now! Maybe I should just come back and watch it tomorrow?? :)

  • Maybe by tomorrow the HQ will set in (yeesh).

Nah, there are tons of things I didn't get shots of because we were too busy just walking around experiencing it. The web site gives more background on it than I could, but it's basically set up for people of all faiths.

  • what an awesome place :)

can't wait to give you a big huge hug!!!!

  • (((Salime)))

  • I love that verse as well (The Greatest Commandment). Thanks for sharing such a lovely garden. I wish this was smell-o-vision. I have a feeling you were smelling jasmine, but of course I don't actually know.

  • Jasmine? That sounds about right. If we hadn't been so distracted by all the shiny objects in the gift shop, we might have thought to ask someone who worked there. LOL

  • I'm laughing but feel a little guilty about it.

    :-D

  • Beautiful spot!! I feel a road trip coming on just to see, feel, and take in the scents of that spot!!!! :-)

  • You would not regret making the drive to see this place, Caylyn.

  • Wow, that's really beautiful! I need to come out to Cali sometime, but I'm way too poor. LOL
