Just took it out if the box this morning. Started it up at rehearsal at 8 and turned it off at 11. Went down one bar out of 4. I'll post a follow up. It sounds excellent!
@RoyRStenstrom Sorry I didn't answer your question earlier. I've recorded for four hours straight without a problem on mine. Waiting to hear your post.
Nice playing man! I'm going to get a D50 myself. I keep buying other things first. I couldn't pass up a used AT4050 for 300.00 last week. I'd love to have you jam on my tunes bro! You got's the swing, even though it's not swing you're playing, you swing it baby. I just got a Tascam DR-680, which is a SWEET portable 8 track, which would be great for garage recordings beyond the stereo thing. But that dang D50 is next on the list buba. Keep rocking!
I'm looking at portable recorders right now myself.
Your recording sounds pretty good with nice clear cymbals coming through (I listened at 720p). I was wondering does the pcm d50 catch the low frequencies well? Are you still happy with the recorder 1 year later?
@Seeringipity I'm very happy with the recorder. I haven't had any problems out of it, and between myself and my son, it gets a lot of use. It picks up low frequencies well. As with any recording, placement is the key. What I really like is that with new batteries, it has no problem recording four hours non-stop. The only downfall, if you plan on recording outdoors, a windsceen is a must. Thats it in a nutshell, it's a great machine, and I do recommend it.
I have been looking into the Korg mr2 aswell but there seems to be much less user information out here about it. The D50 is looking more and more like the right choice for me, with the fur windshield (darn expensive little tribble it is too but I intend to use the recorder outdoors often).
Nice drumming. I have a PCM-D50 also; I mostly use it for sound effects production and field recording. It is a great quality recorder with many features.
I'm searching for a good portable recorder, not that expensive. What is the difference with the Zoom H4n, the Zoom H2 and this one; in terms of recording drums...
I have the Sony PCM-D50 to record my band. Please tell me the specfic settings you recommend for recording live bands? What internal settings do you prefer? Limiter on or off? Low Cut on or off? Mic ATT on 0 or 20? kHz and Bit rate? And how do you use the video with the PCM-D50. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks.
Excellant quality in general and lovely playing too. I would recommend trying to increase the dynamic range - try to represent the inner differences in levels more faithfully and lively while playing. Try to change the position of the recorder and also try using proper manual level adjustment without limmiter (even if it might not be so easy cause you might get distorted peaks).
Thank you for the kind words. I am planning on trying more mic postitons, but for now the drums are in their cases. Thanks again for your suggestions, I'll try them next time.
The recorder was approximately 3 feet in front of the drums and about 3 feet high. This was in my living room, which is 16' x 22' with a vaulted ceiling. There are actually two mics built into the unit that you can position within 180 degrees. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the tip. This wasn't about me drumming though, but about the recording of the drums. I suck at solos, and really dislike trying to impress my skills ,or lack thereof, on other people. I pride myself in being able to keep a good solid beat, most of the time. Thanks for the nice comments just the same!
I dont know about the sony recorder, but you are great :)

Cool. Do you have a windcutter for it yet?
EpicHawk 3 weeks ago
@EpicHawk Yes I bought the Sony windscreen...pricey but works. I have to say though on a day with a heavy wind, you'll still get noise.

@GretschBluezDrummer Did you buy it from thewindcutterdotcom?
EpicHawk 2 weeks ago
@EpicHawk Honestly I can't remember where I bought it! I know it wasn't from there though. I did buy it online, but not sure where...sorry.
GretschBluezDrummer 2 weeks ago
@GretschBluezDrummer Ah. Sure. I was just wondering because I know that The windcutter has good customer service and very affordable prices.

Awesome work man. Love the drumming. How did you sync the D-50 with the video?
normanhart 2 years ago
I used Sony Vegas Pro. It allows you to enlarge the audio tracks, and then just match up the peaks to get them in sync.
