This light looks like the ones used in the first Smokey and the Bandit movie but with blue instead of red.

@policejimmy: That's not a Whelen 992/994 series dome. Profile is too high and not eliptical enough in shape. I think you were right the first time... Signal Stat. or maybe even Smith and Wesson. but NOT Whelen

911caddy; nope. SignalStat is right. The shape of the C184 and CJ184/284 never changed for the production life of the light (from the early 60's to about 1990). I have two CJ184's (1960's version, late 1970's version) and a final series A4 CJ284 from the 80's. The domes are identical. Many department put other makers domes on their FS 184/284 series lights if they broke a dome and couldn't find a ready source of FS replacement domes.

We had two of these on our 1980 Telesquirt. A Ford C-700 E one with a 6 cyl Cat diesel. Smoked like crazy. Wound up selling it a couple of years ago.

on the cj 184 they were belt drive quiet light you could change the motor this light would turn so fast it would blind like a big strobe effect.a real work horse of the fleet of lights.

wrong dome i have 7 cj184 from 1967 to 1979 era .the beacon stayed the same only differenc was the little name plate logo.very good light .

I forgot that FS changed the shape of there 184 beacon lense later in the line. Thanks for sharing.

I don't think they did, this lens is not correct (I believe it's a signal stat) but fits just fine.

I could be wrong, But, I seem to recall them changing the domes in the early nineties before these lights were phased out?? Now ya got me thinkin'

@policejimmy Yeah ,that dome looks like the one used for the Whelen four lamp roof beacon.

I like the way you can stuff a siren speaker below the light.
