Dont want to scare you haha, skydiving is fun, but most injuries happen in air/ right when you land, during my first dive the air foil dislocated my right shoulder, my instructor was quick on his feet and pulled my chute, I was luckily able to thread both steering loops through my left arm and make it down to the ground relatively safely, no flare though which hurt, and the woman who went before me is paralyzed for life, it was approximately her 800th jump
sounds like you had a aod on your rig to bad more skydives don,t use them save me when i was ko from hitting the step on exit slip on the way out my fault
Who was at fault for this accident, the lower jumper flying into the higher jumpers airspace and slowing down, the higher jumper flying above the lower less skilled jumper, both parties equally...?
Was the injury made much worse upon hard landing?
Does the cameraman discuss this accident anywhere on the internet?
Which direction does a parachute orient itself in regards to the direction of the wind if there is nobody flying it? Does the parachute want to go upwind, downwind, crosswind...?
@sanfranciscobay the cameraholder was the instructor, the lower jumper his student. the student began to fall quickly and he went into freefall to catch him, but lost sight of the student, his head hit the students chest, breaking the students ribs and his own neck landing didnt change it
The student put his arms out to break and slow right as he was below the instructor. When he did, the instructor crashed into him. I saw this on 1000 ways to die and I saw the guy is doing very well and looked like he was doing some recording or producing. Awesome recovery man.
I'd feel bad if i was the guy that hit you. How would you continue skydiving knowing you took that skill and passion away from someone. But you seem fine about it, so i guess he wouldn't have much trouble.
NM you need to add in the comments when it happened around the 33 sec to 37 sec mark the guy comes out of no where almost and that is when the contact is made.
I don't get what happened did someone bomb dive above you?? Im looking at the guy in purple and see him come close then go away... What hit you?? Yes I read the post but it doesn't explain what happened or to say how it occurred.
My accident 4/23/03. In this video I am the instructor. The camera is on the left side of my head. The points of contact were the top of my head and his ribs. I heard my neck break and, I was paralyzed instantly. My student broke 2 ribs. The legs you see flopping around are mine. My emergency parachute opened around 700'. I was fully concious until hitting the ground.
Wooow ! That´s the reason why I´am still affraid of skydiving. I ever wanted to but everytime it got serious, I refused the plan. I´am realy amazed that you got up the nerve to upload your own accident and that you never lost courage to get back to life again !! That´s realy awesome !! All my best wishes to you and your whole family !!
@DarkStorm007 the reason he would of broken his neck is because of a thing called Terminal Velocity. Once they jumped out the plane, they were literally racing towards the ground, so when the impact happened, they weren't going slow.
guys, read the author's comment on this video first! He says that indeed he's o.k. now since this has happened many years ago. I'm not sure if he was paralyzed, since after his reserve's opened he was moving his head (i.e. looked at the slider), which means his neck was still o.k. (IMHO).
I hate to be the skeptical kind, but i'm having a tough time believing this! If you notice after the reserve opens he's moving his head and arms! Not doubting he has hurt. Maybe the impact dazed him to the point where he didn't know where he was, but he wasn't paralyzed!
What happened in the air? Why were you flailing around? I assume you hurt your neck on hitting the ground - and was this tandem if your "student" was hurt too?
@chaoislandx Oh crap really? How on earth did that happen?Did the lines catch around yor neck or something??? And what happened witt the student then - I guess this was tandem?...
@Superbruv07 I'm not the one in this video, I was just saying what was said in the description. I have no how it happens due to the footage but the description says that his student broke 2 ribs.
@chaoislandx Yes I didn't think you were in it, but you seemed to know the detials tht I obviously had missed :) Oh, I wonder why the guy didn't describe how it happened because it may help others to avoid it - especially me!
I'm guessing his student was strapped to him then.
@Superbruv07 To me it actually looks like the student is not strapped to him, seeing as how in the beginning you see him clearly not strapped to him. lol
@chaoislandx Yes I know that bt why would the student also break rib bones if he wasn't trapped to the guy who got injured? Unless the student was, conincidentally, a moron.
@chaoislandx I started my course last weekend and did my first 2 jumps on the Sunday, and after 9 hours of on-stop grueling training that drummed into us all the reserve drills and safety points - no-one ever mentioned our neck could snap in the wind!
This has really freaked me out - I'm due for more jumps this weekend and I really want to know how the hell his neck bloody broke!
@Superbruv07 The hit was at 0.36 , hard to see. The wind did not break his neck. If that were the case the hospitals would be filled with jumpers. The sport is as safe as any extreme sport. This is a rare accident. Continue your lessons and safety training and forget this, he has. This is a great sport and he'd also be the first to tell you.
@dtroy347 YeaI I guess but I really want to know how this happened in order to avoid this - because my posiition is quite bad at this point so am I in danger of this happning?
@Superbruv07 He is reported to have dropped fast to catch the student. Speed can get high and a crash into another can leave injuries. For you, highly unlikely, as you won't have students, you shouldn't be going head or feet down, in the beginning you likely won't be able to fly with others except teachers and its still more dangerous to drive to the DZ. OTOH, if THIS accident freaks you out, you might actually want to rethink this as your sport. PS, give up crossing streets, it can be deadly.
@Superbruv07 Ok, seriously you must be a troll. He broke his neck and the student got fractured ribs from the wind? IF you've ever jumped, don't ever again. I doubt you have, as being this ridiculous would have been picked up by your instructor and you would have been stopped.
If you have an instructor, talk to them. But I am doubting you do. This is just a sock account to be stupid.
@dtroy347 I'm sorry? I'm genuinely disturbed by this - no-one told me any of this during training! I've done 2 static lines.
To be honest, I think my instructor felt like that a bit, I was always the one she had to train that bit harder :)
Why do you think I am a troll? I just don't understand how his neck broke and why his student got hurt as well. (I assume this wasn't tandem). Could you not explain this without insulting me please?
@Superbruv07 they were flying head down so their fall rate was faster then belly to earth. at some piont the student probably became unstable and went belly or back to earth causing a slower fall rate and the intructor, still going head down, ran into him. Belly down fall rate is around 120 mph and head down is around 160+ mph. so thats like running into the other guy at 40+ mph. more than enough to break some bones.
Not something u have to worry about for a long time at ur level.
@Superbruv07 you're fine, you're not jumping with anyone else atm. Plus this is extremely rare, the chances of having a collision with someone else fast enough and in the right orientation to break your neck or back are very small. That said, you've gotta be a risk taker when you jump out of a plane, even if those risks are small. For now just concentrate on smiling, looking up at the plane and grabbing your DP flag.
"I think it is hilarious because people get sad over it so many years later. It was one point in time that is far in the past. So, relax and, smile my life is Great!" <-- a manifesto to human intelligence. Congratulations, man.
@daniellos333 Well actually you can. It depends on the type of damage and the care afterwards. You might want to look it up. I already know because I have been a paramedic longer than you have been alive. Education my friend, don't be afraid of it. :)
Wow, dude....... .its your sick ass sense of humor that keeps you alive....lol ...I can totally relate...... Although there's no way in hell I would ever jump, no way!
Keep up the vids.......its a trip and cool to see them progress.
This video isnt even a little bit funny. Why would you think so? The only reason he survived is because of his AAD. Plus the guy is paralyzed now. Im pretty sure that isnt funny either
.@ the jackass saying he was tryng to re gain control byt flailing all over the place.thats exactly how you dont gain control. control is from a calm, stable, arched body position.his cypressthen fired saving his life. he didnt have to pull his chute.. notice the solid color.. thats a reserve...if he had control with his arms like a lot of you guys think; he would have avoided the tarmat and flared when he landed
i love how people who have never been skydiving before are trying to critique this guys.his neck was broken during free fall instantly paralyzing him from the neck down. thats why his legs were flailing all over an so were his arms..
@daday268 The owner of the video jokes about it, check out his other videos, he has some cool stuff, even him in a wind tunnel learning to freefall without help :D
The poster IS the guy with the game...
I believe he named it like this to get more views?
@roger82it did u see how the guy went backwards and then the camera started looking down, right at that moment the other guy flew toward him and they collided
@hardie16 He didn't "choose" to land on the runway. His neck was broken in the collision and he was instantly paralyzed .The poor guy had no control of his landing.
@phoenixdark15 He was paralyzed in the air which is why his legs were flopping around you retard. He heard is neck snap in the air, if he was unconcious when he hit the floor how could he of heard anything. Do you know what it means if you break your neck? You cant move your legs(AKA PARALYZED) which is why he didn't land properly you idiot. God people like you should of been aborted. And look at his other videos retard.
@marcov223 "The points of contact were the top of my head and his ribs. I heard my neck break" impact with what? thats all im fucking asking, but you're too far up your own arse 'trolling' "oh you should have been aborted" dude get a fucking grip, what makes you so high and mighty? fucking hell, get a life you sad fuck.
@phoenixdark15 Rofl, your lower intelligence makes me high and all mighty. Obviously it snapped in the air due to a high gust of wind at the wrong angle. You don't randomly start to let your legs flop like a retard if your parachute is jammed. Nor would he freak out considering he is a teacher himself. Use your common sense moron.
@marcov223 it was on worlds most amazing videos, he is a skydiving instructor as stated in description teaching a person on a FF1 course. He went slightly unstable when in a head down position, lost sight of the student, increased his rate of decent and collided with him hence breaking his neck and the students ribs. You can see it at 35 seconds as you can see the students legs up in the air.
All he can be thankful of is that he had a fully functioning AAD fitted to his rig!
0:42 really sounds like "Oh fuuuccck" over the top of the gushing air. Not that I blame you for a few expletives at that point... or was there a guy strapped to you? I bet he wasn't too happy.
I really need to know, so I don't do it... was this the result of trying to somersault or turn at speed? I'm going to jump straight in beginner position, arms out for the rest of my life if that's what happened!
What happened? Did your neck break in the air? What is the flopping arms and legs? Was that momentum after your neck broke? Or you frantic trying to fix something. The chute opened very late! Was the student strapped to you? How does a quadraplegic type?
Jaysus man. For me, I have to will myself into a suicidal state to get out of the plane, you know like the fear of jumping is so bad that actually jumping would be less bad even if I die, so long as the fear is over. Videos like this are why, I think.
Oh my :( hey guys who are asking how his neck broke, when youre freefalling at 130mph the slightest wrong movement can fling you in one direction really really quickly, that's why you cannot properly see the impact
@wolfanator81 What do you mean you hope he has a gun? So he can rampage against the world? Or kill himself? My Dad was Quad because of a degenerative disease. He wanted to live right to the end. Me, I'd probably want to kill myself but the fucked thing is... no hands. I heard you can't skydive either because paraplegics legs can bend up, esp as the muscle is wasted they have room to fold RIGHT up and the chute can come off. Happened a few times.
Does the emergency chute open on its own at 700 or was it just luck.

@CHRISISNTCROSS the other skydiver did. You can see at 0:36 that he hit something and it was obviously the the other jumper

Although I admire the author for his bright look on life, I find video this terrifying, not hilarious.
zedr77 1 year ago
.@ the jackass saying he was tryng to re gain control byt flailing all over the place.thats exactly how you dont gain control. control is from a calm, stable, arched body position.his cypressthen fired saving his life. he didnt have to pull his chute.. notice the solid color.. thats a reserve...if he had control with his arms like a lot of you guys think; he would have avoided the tarmat and flared when he landed
Elwood350 1 year ago
i love how people who have never been skydiving before are trying to critique this guys.his neck was broken during free fall instantly paralyzing him from the neck down. thats why his legs were flailing all over an so were his arms..
Elwood350 1 year ago
holy shit, unlucky man! all that grass in the paddocks and you had to hit the runway.
bloodfox65 1 year ago
@mulhane89 yeah, like in your car.
More likely to get in a car accident and get hurt and die than skydiving :)

Is getting hurt a good thing?
It kinda is hilarious for me that you got hurt on my birthday
Still is getting a broken neck a good thing?
daday268 1 year ago
@daday268 The owner of the video jokes about it, check out his other videos, he has some cool stuff, even him in a wind tunnel learning to freefall without help :D
The poster IS the guy with the game...
I believe he named it like this to get more views?
viper19861986 1 year ago

Collision @ 0:30? I never see the other jumper approach b/4 hitting. That must have happened b/n frames. Funny? More terrifying.

there was nice soft grass yet you choose to land on the run way
hardie16 1 year ago
@hardie16 I'd like to see you try it when your paralyzed..

@hardie16 yeah, too bad he broke his neck before seeing the nice soft grass ... Fucktard
leighprice1 1 year ago
@hardie16 He didn't "choose" to land on the runway. His neck was broken in the collision and he was instantly paralyzed .The poor guy had no control of his landing.

phoenixdark15 1 year ago
@phoenixdark15 Because he was paralyzed you idiot. Or can you not read?
marcov223 1 year ago
@marcov223 it says he was paralyzed on landing. idiot. if he was paralyzed before landing how could he run his hands along the floor? ^o)
phoenixdark15 1 year ago
@phoenixdark15 He was paralyzed in the air which is why his legs were flopping around you retard. He heard is neck snap in the air, if he was unconcious when he hit the floor how could he of heard anything. Do you know what it means if you break your neck? You cant move your legs(AKA PARALYZED) which is why he didn't land properly you idiot. God people like you should of been aborted. And look at his other videos retard.
marcov223 1 year ago
@marcov223 "The points of contact were the top of my head and his ribs. I heard my neck break" impact with what? thats all im fucking asking, but you're too far up your own arse 'trolling' "oh you should have been aborted" dude get a fucking grip, what makes you so high and mighty? fucking hell, get a life you sad fuck.
phoenixdark15 1 year ago
@phoenixdark15 Rofl, your lower intelligence makes me high and all mighty. Obviously it snapped in the air due to a high gust of wind at the wrong angle. You don't randomly start to let your legs flop like a retard if your parachute is jammed. Nor would he freak out considering he is a teacher himself. Use your common sense moron.

@marcov223 LOL HE GOT PWNT BY WIND!!!

@marcov223 thats cute you guys are fighting
77nombomb77 1 year ago
@marcov223 it was on worlds most amazing videos, he is a skydiving instructor as stated in description teaching a person on a FF1 course. He went slightly unstable when in a head down position, lost sight of the student, increased his rate of decent and collided with him hence breaking his neck and the students ribs. You can see it at 35 seconds as you can see the students legs up in the air.
All he can be thankful of is that he had a fully functioning AAD fitted to his rig!

Hey SharnisR, just read the info on the vid. Compressive neck injury. Purple guy into cameraman's head.
RobSar63 1 year ago
0:42 really sounds like "Oh fuuuccck" over the top of the gushing air. Not that I blame you for a few expletives at that point... or was there a guy strapped to you? I bet he wasn't too happy.
I really need to know, so I don't do it... was this the result of trying to somersault or turn at speed? I'm going to jump straight in beginner position, arms out for the rest of my life if that's what happened!
SharnsiR 1 year ago
What happened? Did your neck break in the air? What is the flopping arms and legs? Was that momentum after your neck broke? Or you frantic trying to fix something. The chute opened very late! Was the student strapped to you? How does a quadraplegic type?
SharnsiR 1 year ago
Jaysus man. For me, I have to will myself into a suicidal state to get out of the plane, you know like the fear of jumping is so bad that actually jumping would be less bad even if I die, so long as the fear is over. Videos like this are why, I think.
SharnsiR 1 year ago
Damn man.. Im sorry!
Also over the whole damn field, you HAD TO HIT THE PAVED Runway?
Are you still paralyzed, or can you walk and do stuff?
xratzix 1 year ago
@xratzix My thoughts exactly. Of all the damn grass he could have hit, he hits the narrow strip of bitumen. Unbelievable.
SharnsiR 1 year ago
Oh my :( hey guys who are asking how his neck broke, when youre freefalling at 130mph the slightest wrong movement can fling you in one direction really really quickly, that's why you cannot properly see the impact
Rich28594 1 year ago
Sorry about the paralyzation that would suck hope you have gun in that wheel chair ;(
wolfanator81 1 year ago
@wolfanator81 What do you mean you hope he has a gun? So he can rampage against the world? Or kill himself? My Dad was Quad because of a degenerative disease. He wanted to live right to the end. Me, I'd probably want to kill myself but the fucked thing is... no hands. I heard you can't skydive either because paraplegics legs can bend up, esp as the muscle is wasted they have room to fold RIGHT up and the chute can come off. Happened a few times.

how did your neck broke
