  • i want to see you do a drum cover of royal orleans . Just cuz I love the drums in that song . Dont know if it is particularly difficult , but I digs it . great playing here man .

  • Excellent job sir. I always preferred the live version of this tune myself.

  • This is solid GOLD! Thanks a bunch for posting all of your great drumming videos!

  • Your not by any chance a John Bonham fan are you? Awesome channel and drumming. Keep it up.

  • Well you are very good excellent drummer! I would like to make a video like this of the song Highway Star by Deep Purple!!

  • Thanks, sorry with all the questions but is d'yer maker and tangerine easy?

  • See the only problem I have is doing a double and keeping the hi-hat goin the same speed, do you have any techniques?

  • @TheChillster97

set a metronome to a slower tempo than the song and practice the it without the music. I always slow things down and then when I feel like i know it well, then I'll try to tempo.

  • Good job, what would you recommend being the easiest Zep song on drums?

  • @TheChillster97

    Thanks, maybe Kashmir...

  • @TheChillster97 ten years gone ,the rover, tangerine, all my love , your time is gonna come ,bron yr aur stomp ...

  • Enter your text here :D

  • Nice job!! Bonzo was like Page in that they played a song different every night. Good job of capturing the moment at MSG circa '73.

  • 2:22 yes! Love the kick.

  • i dont like this i love it

  • Would love to watch you play Achilles Last Stand!

Your vids rule and have helped me in my playing!

Your matter-of-fact and staright-forward style of

    instruction is great! Thanks!

  • Man what a tough fill at 2:10 on the original live track with the timpanis, always had trouble duplicating that. Typical Bonham, keepin the tempo loose haha. Excellent job on these vids. I wanted to be Bonham so bad when I first started playing drums... RIP.

  • DO A COVER OF ACHILLES LAST STAND I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR THAT TOO!

  • @tonambull

no prob...to get the same "cut" on a non ported bass drum you need one mic on both sides but a ported only needs the mic inside the hole. But the playability is the big difference. The hole lets air escape and reduces the bounce back or "flutter".

  • @tonambull

The 26" is harder to play but the sound is unbeatable imo. Took a couple of months to get used to. The trick is NOT to let the beater rest on the head, don't "bury" the beater. A 24" is close to a 22" in the playability. Another thing to make it easier to play a 26" is to have a port but you lose the big, round sound.

  • i have a picture in my led zeppelin book where it looks like he is using muffling with his green sparkles.

  • @Bonzotriplets1

Yeah, I saw that too. Once Jimmy figured out how to get a huge sound that muffling was gone. Even to this day, Ian Paice lines his bass drum with 2" foam.

  • your my favorite youtube drummer, excellent cover

  • @louisalive

    Thanks a lot

  • @GrooveDrummin Yeah, great job. So good to see Bonzo's grooves 'unlocked', so to speak.

  • you use two bass drum mics? is that a sennheiser 421 your using for the batter head? btw you nail the essence of Bonham

  • @jbonhamII

yes, two (batter side is out of phase) yes, 421 and an e602. Thank you very much!

  • Do you have the version from "Listen To This Eddie"? I'd love to see hear play the intro to that one. It's one of my all time favourite Bonzo moments - just amazing. As is this, fantastic job!

  • @Grim177

I don't think I have that ver. I'd love to hear it!

I have an file upload section on my website...hint, hint, nudge...etc :)

    Thank you!

  • If Jason would like a day of. I would say they got their sub!

  • there is no hole in your bassdrum?^^

  • amazing cover ! and awesome bonzo style!

What is the size of these drums?

  • @gildigol

    Thank you!

    14x26, 16x18, 16x16, 12x14

  • I love the way you play, awesome work buddy !!!! 10/10

  • @DrumWizzard

    thank you bro

  • Awesome Man!

  • only proper Zeppelin fans play this stuff...nice job!

  • Achilles FTW

  • Man I love Bonham and his greasy grooves. Great playing, love the kit too! You wouldn't have a solo'd out track of just your playing on this would you? Please let me know, this is one of my all time favorites that I like to add multis to.

  • Hey Dan! Did you ever get to see LZ live?

  • @coomzman

No, I wish. Saw Buddy Rich though :)

  • Love your drummin dude!! fantastic groove Keep rocking in the free world.

  • I want your kit!

  • Amazing sounding kit ! Great Cover, on your profile it says you live in Canada, do you live in Kingston, Ontario by any chance? I saw a guy that looked EXACTLY like you at my church, hahaha, I felt like going up to him and asking if it was you! But great job !

  • i'm around kitchener :)

  • You need a Speed King! :D

  • @Beatlesfan1000

Ill second that because i own one and i will not get any other pedal, its too damn awesome. plus its like $120 here in the USA.

  • I'm absolutely loving all this DZ, amazing!! I'm still perplexed as to why despite playing it at 99% it doesnt feel like JHB?

  • Thank you for watching! Bonham had a special touch that is very hard to reproduce.

  • This is as close to the real deal as you can get though ; )

  • sounds sweet as usual : ) question: I posted myself playing the studio version of this a year ago, but it got taken down because of Led Zeppelins copyright problems or whatever. How do you keep your zeppelin covers up?

  • This happened to the Deep Purple Burn vid I made. Soemone told me that you can dispute the claim, sorta like ebay. This is what I did and the vid is now up. Surprisingly, I haven't been stopped for any other vids, but they tagged my Hendrix vid for copyright claim although the vid is still up. The dispute I replied with was that the vid was for educational purposes. Let me know if you can't find the dispute link.

    Thank you!

  • I think one should post a video of Achilles Last Stand. Who backs me up?

  • Achilles Last Stand

    amazing song

    please cover it :D

  • @UberPiroxsFriend

Ok, this will be done. I'm working out the parts now.

  • @GrooveDrummin

Awesome dude! Are you going to run it to the Knebworth audio off the DVD?

  • @UberPiroxsFriend

album version because it's played cleaner.

  • you bring that shit back to life... love it. thanx

  • Dan, any chance you could give us a video lesson on your "Bonham groove 3"?

You know, overhead play by play. Just purchased a Zep Set and really enjoy your vid's. Thanks, Brad

  • I've been asked about this lick a lot so Ok, I'll do an overhead view of it next chance I get. Thanks.

  • Fantastic, thanks again, Brad!

  • Hey my friend its anthony, just curious but which is the best drumset to get

  • That depends...most expensive would be either DW or Sonar, best value with good sound either Yamaha Ryden or Pearl Export. Best sounding, (IMO) are Ludwig and Pearl.

  • alright thnx

  • Daniel imi pare foarte bine ca te-am vazut la youtube si-mi face mare placere sa vad ceva profesionist.Esti superb the best of the best.

    Tibi is proud of YOU.

    God Bless You

    Very Reverend popa Zlatibor

  • Thank you very very much Zlatibor!!!

  • Nice!

  • Hey man,great as always..just great...

check out "Bruno Farinelli",he's my teacher, what do you think about him...

    cheers..

  • Wow Dan, you truly are a fan, from all the Bonzo'isms to a genuine kit and setup.

Thank you for keeping the classics alive and showing todays kids what its all about and where it came from.

Beautifully mixed and shot, I hail you.

    Goose

  • Thanks for all the interest and kind words.

  • Truely AMAZING!.

    Dan you did it again!

Thank you for the foot cam. Icant wait to see hats next.. In My Time Of Dying (studio) I would love to see that

  • Hey thanks Pete!

  • Another great performance Dan !!!

If Bonham is able to watch your foot cam, I'll bet he's got a great big smile on his face.

    Well done.

  • Thank you!

  • The quality of your videos are superb and your drumming sublime - a pleasure to watch!

  • Can you do same with your left foot that you can with your right?

  • Maybe not as fast but close to it yes.

  • The your a sexy beast (^.o)

  • geez , 5 star

  • simply the best Bonham Drumming ever covered nice job my friend.

  • Thank you very much!

  • I like bass pedal view on this one.

  • nice playing and awesome choice for a song!

keep it coming man your great

    5/5

  • Great video, the technique you used to record and produce it is a winner, keep it. Three split frames, nice. Like the loose bass foot, let the 26" ring. It looks like an old speed king, but not quite? Song remains the same is one of my favorite LZ songs.

  • Great job Dan. The split screens with different camera angles are good this time.

If I may be so bold to give a little comment: I would put the top camera view large in the middle and the other views smaller right next to it (front view on top, foot view at the bottom). And try to make the views exactly the same size, that would look more pro. Depending on your software, switching views (zooming the foot and front view and then back) would make it even better.

But only minor details, 5 *s.

  • damn, sounds great !! ---you make it look soooo easy !!!

  • i think you forgot to add the audio from your drums to this song. : )

  • Why do you have to be a dick, can you even help yourself?

  • i take it that you didn't understand my compliment.

  • I did, thank you!!

  • OK I'll take it back, apology. It does have two meanings. Cheers

  • hehe, thanks

  • Awesome! Love the camera angles.

  • 5 stars dude!! Excellent.

Can I ask what software you used to do the split screen effect? I use Vegas which is good stuff. But there seems to be no way to sync videos aside from dragging the tracks with the mouse. Its very imprecise when you need millisecond accuracy.

    Keep on rockin \m/

  • Your 14" tom needs a little bit of body. Try to tune it lower.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.

  • No one alive today compares with you on the terms of really getting into what Bonham did, Dan. Theres only one person whos better at being John Bonham for 5 and a half mins... sadly he died in 1980, great cover!

  • Thank you for the awesome comment Alex!!

  • Its a shame I never got off my lazy arse to get into that collab enough, you are a beast dude!

  • Thanks again, it's not too late!

  • True, well in england right now its 23:40 so a bit late to start blasting marshalls haha, but I will see when I restring my double neck, may get a real good take to ur good old drum track. Im off to bed man, nighty night!

  • no rush
