Epic game indeed. Interesting to see someone playing it for the first time - I've had my hand fused to the joystick for weeks because of this one, back in the days. You should've watched the title sequence, where they show a few techniques you only discovered later. There's a cool slideshow-story there, too :-)
Really cool game, there's a freeware remake out there callled Hurrican you might want to check out. Also the english accented announcer reminded me of The Chaos Engine, another of the very best Amiga games
I have real fond memories of this game from 1992. Pushed the Amiga to its limits and showed what quiality games were possible. The music and gameplay set it apart from many of it's predecessors. Fantastic game overall and highly sought after still now. Best weapons were the huge laser (3 laser tokens), laser whip (hold fire button down) and the Mega Weapon (hold crouch, space and fire at the same time)
@stormus65 yeah I was really impressed. I discovered the laser whip and the mega weapon in the next video completely by accident, to my utter surprise and delight when the character was bouncing all around the screen going nuts with destructive glee :D
Really liked your reactions to Turrican II, it is indeed Epic! There is a Turrican 3 btw! I have watched a few of your videos and found your commentary genuinely funny! Please do more Overlooked Games! Try out Wiz n`Liz, Alien Breed and Lemmings to start! Keep up the good work....
I've recently made a request video, after reaching 128 subscribers (a binary milestone). Feel free to add your suggestions to the comments on that video, since that's where I'll be referring to when going through requests. Good suggestions by the way, I've played Alien Breed and Lemmings, but have yet to make videos about them. Great games. I'll have a look at Wiz 'n' Liz too. Probably will be doing Turrican 3 also. Thanks :)
It was awesome to see your surprise when you discovered the aiming gun, or the spinning saw. :) Btw, this game does it right: uses 2 buttons! If I remember well, the sequel Turrican III allowed the player to configure button number 2 for jump! It was awesome as well.
@pacpacfujishima hehe, it was awesome to discover it too. I'll definitely have to have a go at Turrican III at some point. I guess the subtitle was wrong, this really isn't "the final fight".
You were right to call the music epic, the soundtrack by Chris Hülsbeck is generally considered epic in Amiga game-music history. Pressing Space Bar on the title screen opens music selection menu where you can access all the awesome music in the game.
Anyway, great channel Jim, it made me start playing Eye of the Beholder again (and maybe now Turrican II also). Keep up the good work.
@hiffinn nice! I'll have to check that out. I had a look at Chris Hülsbeck's website and listened to a couple of the samples on there. Beautiful stuff.
YES!!! Loving this game. Thanks man! This sure is a game that takes some getting used to in the terms of knowing what to do. It is cool from the first minute but the different ways of approaching and all. I think you should play Amiga games with joysticks instead. Sounds like you play with a pad.
And another game you might like is Blood Money. I really think it is a game for you (you can buy weapons!!!)
@revolutionactiondk yeah I was playing with a pad, I prefer them to be honest.
For a minute there I thought you were talking about Hitman: Blood Money (which I do like - a lot). So I googled and found the game you're talking about. Looks cool. I'll put it on my list :)
Jim you rock! Was so good to see you playing Turrican! And as you hadn't played it before, it really took me back to how I felt when I first played it. Excellent video as always.
I recommend you play Mega Turrican for the Mega Drive sometime too. Great game with awesome music! It has my favourite intro of any Mega Drive game too.
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks again for suggesting it, it was a blast. That Megadrive version sounds cool too. I think I also saw a version for the SNES called Super Turrican. Maybe I'll have to give them all a go at some point.
@JimPlaysGames You're most welcome! I think it's time I checked out the Snes version too. I'm not sure what it's like but can I tell you that Mega Turrican is very much it's own game and not a conversion.
This is my favourite version though, it's just constant fun and craziness as you found out! One last thing, I started a channel some time ago called Samandhisgames funnily enough if you ever want to check it out. I've only put up 3 videos so far which differ in style though I'm making more.
Turrican is the game series that Chris Hülsbeck is most famous for.
Also this game was re-released under the Kixx label (the budget range titles for the company U.S Gold). -Rodland was the same-
If you're interested in platformers for the Amiga then, Zool, Zool 2, Superfrog or Ruff 'N' Tumble is right up your alley. If you want a Sonic clone then Kid Chaos would fufill your needs.
@amigagames cool, I plan on having a go at Ruff 'n' Tumble sometime soon I think. I do like these sort of games, although I'm not very good at them. Sonic was always too fast for me though.
Also, one of the games you recommended in the 64 special will be coming soon, which you may have noticed in the intro :)
@pacbilly hehe yeah, don't really need to know much more than that with this sort of game. Although there is a lengthy and pointless plot apparently. Might have been worth learning the controls though. In the second part I figure out some of the more nifty moves :)

@idogendel I saw the title sequence afterwards and realised what I was missing. I also did a follow up series where I play through to the end.

@Ashen83 Hurrican looks really cool, I'll have to try it out.
I did a video about The Chaos Engine, but for some reason it failed to grab me the way Turrican did. Maybe it's more of an acquired taste.
