The 2008 honda fit is one of the best made cars from Honda. Period. Especially when you drive this car with a stick shift. My sport is almost three years old now and still love it so. I can really understand what the Japanese where thinking when they made this car. It's just a shame they changed them so radical for 09 and up. Basically got the closest thing to an untouched Europe or Japanese car. Threads like a needle in traffic. When the warranty is up, I will give it some performance upgrades.
Damn good of you to learn to drive a stick. I've become almost unable to deal with an automatic. It's the best way to really feel the car when you drive. Im 18 and I've been driving for almost 3 years and all I drive is stick. I couldn't imagine my subaru forester with an auto.
I agree... I'm 15 and I've only had my permit for a few months but I feel pretty disconnected when I'm driving my parents' Odyssey (automatic), rather than my dad's Jeep Wrangler (5 spd. manual). Plus, I can almost drive smoother, since the torque converter kicks in kinda hard. I do have to admit though, it is nice when I'm feeling tired, to just put it in drive, but really, it's not that much harder to drive manual. I mean, even when on my first try driving stick, I never stalled the car.
@cherrybomb1493 I'm glad that you like driving manual, but you and I both know that you're not being entirely truthful. Everyone stalls when learning stick. It's just how it is. I agree with you though that it's nice to have an auto when you're extremely tired. My Mazdaspeed 3 can be a nuisance when I'm exhausted and just want to get home. Lol.
Haha, well that's the truth. I guess I should let you know that I'm a HUGE car guy, to the point of being obsessed, and have been on driving sims since I was about 9... Lol. So that could've played a pretty big part of it, since I was heel-toe revmatch downshifting in driving sims before I actually drove a stick in real life. Haha. Yes, I am that much of a car nerd.
Sweet car, by the way... I bet those make awesome fun daily drivers.
@cherrybomb1493 Thanks for the compliment on the car. Yes, it's an enjoyable daily driver (with the exception of slippery pedals when it rains which makes it difficult to control the clutch). Are you talking about a professional simulator with pedals and all? Or? What's the deal with that?
Professional can mean different things, but yes, I mean a driving sim with a 2.5 turn lock-to-lock logitech wheel, a shifter, and pedals (no clutch, but sometimes I would use the brake pedal as a clutch in-game). The game/sim is Live For Speed, one of the most realistic PC simulators out there... and as stupid as it might sound, I've learned a lot from it.
thats a base fit huh? do you have a good sound system? thats one of the things stopping me from getting mine. cuz there are no more sport models available...
The Sport's sound system is better in terms of having greater power output and having an auxiliary jack for a mp3 player. I am going to replace the sound system (as much as I like the way it looks) with an aftermarket one because I need to be able to hook up my mp3 player. I never listen to CDs anymore.
ahh thank you man, yeah it sucks that the 07-08 base model doesnt have an auxiliary input. thats the only drawback for me about the base. i think you can get it installed at the dealer for like $50 tho..
Why is it so hard to find a video of someone driving casually? Instead of trying to impress other people with aftermarket parts and shitty modifications.
yo i have one too :) its a good car, very roomy, pretty good at acceleration, good on gas. i was wondering, at what rpms do you decide to shift at? i usually try to keep them at 3000 or under to save gas.
Yeah, I try to keep shifts at under 3K rpm, too. Oftentimes, though, I need to go above 3K (especially when starting at a dead stop) to get the necessary power when I'm going uphill or getting on the freeway.
good luck with the car........but how you like performance of it??? im thinking of getting one but i hate to give up my 02 maxima se? but the gas is killing me on that car...wnat something more fuel friendly lol.
I test drove a '08 Civic and this '08 Fit and the Fit felt zippier in the first two gears. The handling is nice and makes up for the lack of power. However, I think you would disappointed in terms of performance if you're coming from a Maxima.
eh if ur lookin for something fuel friendly, i suggest u dont look at the performance lol cuz most of the "fuel friendly" cars dont have that much of a great performance engine.... especially if ur comin from a maxima se lol
plus if u put a turbo on a fit, its quick cuz the car is very light ;] but ull have to sacrifice some MPG's lol
well yea, on any car, wit the a/c on, it lags... its js that cars wit more hp u dont feel the lag but wit 4 bangers, u can feel it on some cars... especially small cars lol
ride it out a little more esp in first. I have a stick fit with a scanguage and discovered that you get much better gas milage, power, and a lot less road rage if you ride it to about 3000 in first then shift to second. The fit is also my first stick shift car.
ha, yeah people who drive automatics that drive behind me have to slow down when I shift from 1st to 2nd. These days, if there's a lot of traffic or if there's a huge truck behind me, I try to rev a bit higher before shifting. I also try to make my shifts quicker.
a scanguage is device the plugs into your car and its feeds of of the onboard computer and tells you a lot of sutff like you current mpg, rpm, gph, cpm. Also it gives you how many miles until your tank is empty, a whole bunch of other sutff too. Are you on fitfreak The honda fit forum. People there are really helpful, and theres a lot more on the scanguage there.
no, if you ride first gear to 3k and then shift it is pretty much the best shift point otherwise, it puts too much strain on the engine, and your mpg go down
Yeah, if you're gonna get a Fit definitely get the manual tranny. I live in a pretty hilly area and I end up needing to rev high and choose my gears to get decent acceleration. Maybe paddle shifters on the auto tranny would help if auto was your thing.
Not bad for 3 week's bud, keep up the fine driving. Plus yeah the directionals d sound a bit loud, then again it's good so you don't leave them on :)*I also drive a 2008 Honda Fit sport* vivid blue 5 speed
yes, no difference in terms of performance. it just has additional stuff like alloy rims (which i'm not too crazy about), ipod jack, cruise control, leather steering wheel cover, body kit, etc. it also weighs more and yea, i wasn't too crazy about the body kit.
You're good at driving stick. I cant do it. Well I can... forwards... I get scared going into reverse and pop the clutch. Oops. My 08 Fit will def be an AT
Honda Fit gd3, best car in my opinion.
