Larry that's EXACTLY right. A river formed 1 million years ago (Congo) and separated the species. One became chimps the other bonobos. Chimps had to share land with gorillas, bonobos didn't and they became two distinct species.
Bonobos mate in every possible position you can think of AND in any combo possible: male, females, infants, adults. What you see here is a male (with the face) having sex and then two females rubbing genitals together (called "GG Rubbing"). They are incredible!
I just watched on TV this past week about those animals. they are the closest to humans.. because they walk a lot more than other apes and have sex similiar to humans, too. I thought that was indeed interesting.. They don't make wars, they have sex instead .. which the TV animal show said. smile..
Sorry But Bonobos are most definitely not weird ! You should read up or watch some vid's and you'd see just how beautifully unique they re and that the planet is so very fortunate to have them.
