@fancythathat you just have never experienced what a full race track in a full on super car feels like. maybe one day you will relieve your self pity with the adrenaline of what a super car is meant to do. cheers!
That turn is really challenging when you dont have a car properly set and/or out of temperature. It's common to spin there ,,, Remember Felipe Massa and other drivers did spin there too... if he changed gears more softly to control the power and step on the gas properly(with the wheel in the straight position) it would help transferring all the horse powers to the ground without spinning. Then in the following laps he could puish harder
If you know what the "hell and toe" technique is (there is alot of videos about it), that's the same purpose.
Thing is when you disengage the clutch to down shift, the engine revs want to fall but the gearbox continues to spin at the same speed cause it's conected to the wheels. So you have to MATCH the revs in both sides of the clutch by giving the acelerator a litlle touch before you engage the clutch again.
I think there are too many 'expert drivers' on youtube, Harris races 911's to a reasonable high level, I don't think it's of any use to hear about what you think he should have done, only pro's are capable of driving these cars in such conditions. Just enjoy the vid as a demonstration of how amasing these cars are.
I really like Chris Harris. He's not an entertainer, like Jeremy, and he doesn't have Tiff's racing cred, but he's got a good style that you can relate to.
@LorienoftheBlossom yeah, it looks much more then I could imagine. Amazing how easy it is to lose grip. My god! Those machines really require extreme unbeliavble skill :O
Chris has good music and and good punches. He beat the CRAP out of out of some dude yesterday night in NYC after he called him a nigger , the guy was demolished. TMZ posted the video at tmzfights. com
This Jaguar R5 witha V10 engine, which race in 2004 season.......2004 F1 cars was the fastest F1 car ever made until 2006 they use V8 engine and 2009 aerodynamic rules make the car look so ugly!!
very true but at certain tracks such as Silverstone having less downforce makes it quicker during quali this year they were thrashing the 04 qualifying record every lap
Funny! I watched Part2 of this series first, and I was thinking, "Christ! Chris Harris is no mean (average) driver - HE CAN DRIVE - and he's just pootling about Silverstone; makes one think just how good unsung heroes like Martin Brundle are..."
And here he is, the very fellow! ;o)
Just goes to show how mightily impressive Lewis Hamilton's 1st and 2nd years in F1 were.

Accelerative? I think that was the wrong word. A buggati can accelerate to 100km/h slightly quicker than an F1 I heard - without needing 2000hp. I think he meant power to weight ratio.
You can only put so much horsepower to the ground from standstill. Rolling times you could expect the F1 to absolutely cream the Veyron. Not that it matters as this is pure racing while the Bugatti is a refined road car...
You can still spin with T/C. But these cars are just so sensative and soo powerful. Even just supercars are crazy powerful enough. I remember watching an interview with a rich fella and he was explaining a crash he had in his Ferrari F430 where as he downchanged he flicked the T/C off. The jump in revs from downchanging - coupled with no T/C - was enough to spin the rear wheels and send the ass of the car out sideways into the kurb just like what happened to this guy. And that was up a hill to.
@seroyer2 I'm not entirely sure, but I assume back when the gearboxes were H-Pattern and had foot operated clutches on changes, they were matching on downshifts.
Yer mate im keen as aye. Channel 10 have picked there game up a bit with only a 40 min delay. Kimi went pole and a good eff by webber. Should be a good race hey.
I really don't like how Martin Brundle comes across in this video - very smug and arrogant. He may or may not be making things up, but really sounds like he's just showing off.
Chris here is talking about power to waight ratio. In case of Veyron it's arround 500 bhp per ton where F1 car has over 1500 bhp per ton and since 1500 is 3 times more than 500 Veyron would have to have 3 times more power than it has = over 3000 bhp.
Not easy,to say the least......virtually zero grip at those temps. Should have tried it at 25-30c!....I wonder if he's ever raced a proper kart, that would have helped too..I'd love to see Clarkson drive an F1...he'd break it just looking at it!.......
Amazing stuff. One of the best things any lover of driving/racing could do in their lifetime. This is the circuit they should've put Richard Hammond on in the Renault, not that tiny 1-mile 5-corner Stowe circuit.
Martin Brundle and Chris Harris are Legends as far as i'm concerned, Martin explaines everything so well to Chris, an Chris does extremely well around the track. Much better than Hammond did when he drove an F1 car round Sliverstone. Martin and Chris are just both great people and amazing drivers, in my view.
