The piano I have played many times and has been the joy of my children and grandchildren when they ask me "cowboy music." I never knew his name, and now that I bought a banjo I'm also running, and I knew his name thanks to youtube.Muchas by videoclip.Un who placed it in warm greeting from Buenos Aires Argentina, Jose Luis.
I love it . Whoever tries to tie old time to racism is really wasting the fans' time and it just plain sounds like some one is playing knowitall when there is no such thing as knowing it all . Here's a tip just enjoy the music that's all it was meant for.
These are great! Skillet Lickers were one of the best and Riley Puckett OMG. I love that guy's picking style and singing. And of course there were words to Turkey in the Straw. The Skillet Lickers words are a little different than what I learned in grade school in the 50s, but it's a very traditional song with words.
Greetings from Illinois! I'm glad you enjoyed this recording. They sure could play like no one else! If you haven't already, be sure to check out the other videos on my channel. I have posted 950 old time recordings from the 20's and 30's. Enjoy and have a great night, Brian
I never knew there was words to Turkey in the Straw. Are they traditional? I know Gid Tanner put his own to some of the old tunes, as did Jimmy Driftwood and others.
Good morning! I really don't know if these words were the Skillet Lickers' own creation or not. Like you, I've never heard these words outside of this recording, so it's entirely possible. I wouldn't doubt that's what it was, but I don't know for sure. I hope you have a great day, and thank you for watching. If you have the opportunity, be sure to check out the other videos on my channel, I have posted close to 900 old time recordings from the 20's & 30's. Hope you have a great day, Brian
I'm glad you enjoyed it! They sure did have an energetic style. Thank you for watching, and be sure to check out the other videos on my channel. Hope you have a great day, Brian
@mmw453 That's actually 3 fiddles you know! Bert Layne is playing the baritone fiddle, but he never gets any recognition for his work on these records.
First time I've heard this hillbilly band...love it!...I couldnt stop laughing!...L.
