  • I didn't know Guy Gibson was a cockney and Barnes Wallis was an American.... O.o

And by the way, there was no flak over the Eder, either in the film or in reality. There was plenty over the Mohne though.

  • I should probably mention that Guy Gibson was at least twenty years younger than the guy playing him here, too.

  • Anyone care to explain also why Gibson is wearing dress uniform after getting out of G-George, rather than his flying gear? Sack the wardroom director and sack the casting director. I would say kick the actors off their course too, but I just feel too sorry for them.

  • Pathetic.

  • I dont understand, this isnt as bad as everyone is saying, its clearly a low-budget amateur film so whats the big deal? Its not up for an oscar or anything FFS people, get a life.

  • Oh christ this was CRAP!!!!!

  • Nigger!! Come over here, old boy!! Come to daddy!!

  • Where's Nigger?:(

  • Compared to the original....this is wretched acting

  • Absolute rubbish. Why waste our time.

  • Lousy acting... Nothing to do with the script.

  • Yes I was very aware of the shockingly bad script - didn't know it was up for a BAFTA- crikey; how times have changed. Lets hope the new script has the legs and intelligence to best serve the history. Many thanks for your comment. RSL

  • terrible uniforms, they look like chauffeurs!!

  • This scene was produced as a training exercise for student actors and therefore only a review mechanism within their Screen Performance Course.

I fully understand the global interest in the Dambusters as an iconic event in the history of WWII. We salute the airmen who gave so much for the benefit of us all.

I thank you for reviewing this video.

  • 'Gibson' mugging like an amateur.

You can't really be meaning to portray a WWII RAF officer like a burlesque comedian? Can you?

    Guess you can.

  • AQI didn't exist during the war.

  • Sorry to be picky, but the two dams are pronounced Mur-ne and A-der

  • this is worse acting that eastenders

  • That has to be possibly the worst acting I've ever seen. He sounds like a used car salesman from Romford.

  • @lanebarnaby Thats an insult to the used car salesman of Romford

  • nice vid, recreating success and tragedy of historic mission

    - Henry Keiper has banned me from making comments on his "CHEAP" Star Wars

remake of Dambuster mission, in which 57 brave men died

-fuck you Keiper, you disrespectful ego

  • Uggh! Modern day common accents! Barnes Wallis was a gentleman, not an indistinguished looking geek with a transatlantic accent.

  • This is clearly a spoof.

  • Very good, despite the acting, props, clothing and fake accent.

As a Barnes Wallis historian, I can't beliveve for one moment this is a Peter Jackson remake

  • My dad's cap issued 1943, Lanc captain, P/O or F/O (don't know) not a Flight Sargeant tho. Peak is blue flanneled...NOT London Transport gloss black...& they BENT the stiffening to look rakish & split-arsed & not like a sprog pilot. Looks like u need a tip. But good luck i'd love to see (if) it's done properly.

  • This doesn't seem quite right to me. If this is production standard the thing will go for a Burton, rapidly. BC aircrew/captains were trained beyond any warrior in history. They were overworked, pressured & if on a 2nd tour, often mentally surrendered to certain death, same for the sprogs. Live for the moment, have fun, deep cameraderie, deal the RAF card with a stiff-upper, superstitious, use the slang....& gen up on the correct peak to the hat!

  • my grandad was a mechanic on the lancs

his brother (my great uncle) was a rear gunner

i really do hope this film does the original 617 squadron proud

so far from this its looking good

any ideas of a release date yet?

  • @TheOlypilot just to add to your list if i may but his peak cap has a shiny peak witch is for ncos not officcers unless they are group captain or above and then they have gold leaf on it

  • @Garrytherat25 Well spotted you are right.Barney is right too about the mods , but I don't think its City of Lincoln as thats in the UK.I understand they got 10 full size nock ups made in China so it is probably one of those. Still its far too glossy and I doubt if they would put squadron badges on in wartime If you want to see good CGI u tube MERLINS. Cheers Pete

  • @TheOlypilot If you read Gibson's account of the raid he clearly states that he can read Hopwood and Martin's Squadron markings as they fly towards Holland.

  • @MikeSnos Hi Mike, I'll have to dig out my copy of enemy coast ahead to check, but I'm assuming he meant the AG squadron codes alongside the fus roundels. These codes were changed every now and again to confuse the enemy. And probably ourselves! Cheers Pete,

  • The Lanc was the"city of Lincoln",the aircraft used in the raid were much altered ,for instance the mid upper gun turret was removed and blanked off,and the under belly was cut back to enable the bomb to be fitted, with such major mistakes as this,i can't see the film being as good as the original, sorry?.

  • Call me a purist or anything else that comes to mind, but, based on this scene, I don't like the feel of this. Certainly, the individual playing Gibson doesn't begin to come up Richard Todd and his portrayal. The actor playing Gibson in this is just "too perfect" in his uniform and looks out of place in it. His hat appears to be too big for his head and his left ear sticks out ... reminiscent of Martin Shortt or Stephen Colbert. This would be painful to watch.

  • eerie! I am just next door to RAF Scampton, going in tomorrow for a look around a few old pieces. Good luck with your film - what a brilliant piece of my local history to be appreciated! how old was Guy Gibson when he died, do you know?! No doubt I will find the answer on google in a sec but no harm in asking :)

  • his mosquito crashed in holland in sep 1944

    he was only 26

  • Congratulations on doing the screen test on such a small buget, but you are doing a remake of one of the best 5 aviation films ever made so your standards have to be top notch.

Two more niggles . The flack was over the Mohnne not the Eider and the raid was done with a full moon so you would not see one in daylight! Keep up the good work .Cheers Pete

  • Peter is remaking the Dambusters movie where I'm sure you will see even more CGI and hopefully the actors from my clip as extras as this clip was a screen test for them. Here in NZ we don't have heaps of RAF Lancaster bombers hanging around, in fact we only have one at the air museum we were so lucky to film at and that aircraft is so valuable that it's parked in a hanger and no filming is allowed.

  • And why are they doing their best, well you see here in New Zealand we don't have the opportunity to appear in big budget movies every week, and as you may know, our genius of film Mr Peter Jackson LOTR KINGKONG

  • Thank you for showing an interest.... I will agree with two of your comments, but i reserve the right to defend this scene. The actors are doing their best with a lousy script from the 1953 film.

  • @UNIT21Productions How is it a lousy script? Richard Todd and Michael Redgrave managed ok....

  • @UNIT21Productions

That 'lousy' script was written by the great R.C. Sheriff and was nominated for a BAFTA. Just thought you ought to know.
