I'm working on the fore arm soft as a blade of gras thing with the punch. The explanation of staying on makes sense but I have trouble to mix it with the blade of gras concept. How can I maintain power in every stage of the moves, when my fore arm should be relaxed and only squeeze short before the punch? For explanation maybe: we do both at once. We train punching with one arm and doing slapping hand with the other. Then we just change hands.
Is there any way you could tell me the proper order in which to view your videos? I pick videos randomly to practice with, but am sure that it might be better to do them in a certain order, do you have any advice for a specific order, for example, if I wanted to practice different ones on different days of the week?
Beginners (especially the younger ones) would think it looks cool to go faster, and would do ANYTHING to impress their girls classmates, so they're likely to do drills like this with lightning speed.
If they see a cool guy like you doing it in such a slow speed, they won't think it's sissy!
You have much knowledge, however, you pull your punch back too far! It's not against the chest, as you show, as it will collapse...it's a fist and a half away from the body...just like in the form. Respectfully, You have knowledge, but you do not have technique!
isnt the guy on the right bending is back to much? isnt you supposed to have a straight back so you lock your spine and get a strong posture? right now it looks like his lower back would take all the force.
i've been taking jeet kune do for 7 months now, and we do alot of pak and lap sau. jkd was influenced alot by wing chun. these guys are really good, nice vid!
i only have one issue with the pak sau's being performed.
i can see your student making the pak on your wrist, from my experience i usually answer this with an elbow , because he is only trapping my fist and not the rest of my arm.
doing a pak about halfway down the forearm eliminates this problem.
thats a good explantion iv been trying to learn a martial art for sometime but i dont have the time and money for finacial reasons wat should i do in your opinion
When you look at any art if you want to understand it you have to understand the environment that created it. S. China was very crouded. So the close combat was esential. You had no room to move like in boxing. In N. China you have the kicking arts. When you take a good WC class they put you in the open crotch stance and come by to check it. If done right you can support 2-5 times your weight. When I learned it the instructor and his student were hanging off me to show the strength.
Also, when you step forward, u don't have to worry about your "Crotch" as u so aptly put it, because Wing Chun, you practice to Leg Check as you step-in towards your opponent, you've become ALMOST glued to him, as you are Sprung Upon him or her...So yeah, basically, you're covered in any and aLL areas...
Not quite, when you step forward, that's how you "move" as one, rather then the two or three separate movements, u step forward along with the Pak Sao & Punch...Combines Power & Efficiency, not to mention it helps to Springboard your punch when your explosiveness is unloaded Six inches or less away from the Opponents Face
he cant knee/kick/uppercut your crotch while your punching him up close, its a close range stance, i like how u can step forward/back with 1 foot to keep atgood distance
JIn...thanks for sharing the philosophy of the Wing Chun in a way that people will understand. I would like to know do you have any website that I can get to know more bout your Wing Chun Form? Thanks.
thanks for your words of encouragement. i am currently working on a website. in the meantime, be sure to subscribe to my channel for weekly tutorials. peace!
excellent video, I love how Jin uses the common mistakes to perfect a technique, really helpful, matter of fact I was doing the same drill today with my brother, the same way Jin started the video, completely wrong, I learn something new every day. Thanks again
I find this intresting from years of karate always saying that you stay completely relaxed till the moment of contact. I understand what you are saying though and it makes more sense really

why do wing chun pracitioners kind of put their crotch forward into the fight zone?
I never understood that.
Any ideas?
