  • Thanks for posting this...I saw a few of these for the first time yesterday. A co-worker was able to guess from my description and blurry camera phone photos what they were, but most pictures you see of them in wikipedia and other websites are a different color than these. The ones I have are exactly the same as these.

  • my pleasure -- I've seen yellowish ones, but pinkish is the color I see most often too. They are cool to watch but difficult to film! Thanks for your comment!

  • Thank you for posting this! I live on the North end of Tucson and just pulled 22 of this moth larvae off my desert willow hybrid! Bleah! The moths themselves are cool, though (the larvae is the tomato hornworm and they are huge!)

  • You're welcome. That explains it! We are always pulling tomato hornworms off our tomatoes. I didn't know they turned into these beautiful critters. Thanks for watching!

  • Many thanks for posting this video. I live on the southeast side of Tucson where I've seen this moth several times. I puzzled over its identity until a friend told me about hummingbird moths. But this video nails it. Who's doing the background music? The music is so right for the images.

  • You're welcome. I thought so about the music too. It was so long ago I did this, I don't remember who specifically, but that it was from a royalty-free collection loaned to me by a friend. Now that I'm learning GarageBand, sounds like it could have been done with Apple Loops! But it does fit -- dark and mysterious. Thanks for watching!

  • This was really quite well done. The music is so cool for this footage. Good job.

  • thanks :)

  • These fly in the flowers around me on my daily walks. They're delightful. When I wear something with flowers on it, they try to light on my dress.

  • Wow, you got some great shots here! Nice.

  • Thanks! As you know, it's not easy to keep up with them!

  • I live in Whittier, California, and saw one by the 99c variety store;male due to medium size, low right croner of second window, facing south of Whittier, bYW hittitwood Mall, just a black east of Scott, on April 5,2008!

  • Nice :-)

  • I found the caterpillar of this moth on the sidewalk just outside of my high school

  • I just saw a huge hummingbird moth when I went out to get my mail, the sun is going down. I think it is this species, its bigger then the ones I usually see.
