if it scales individual faces in their respective places your creation is very VERY useful.
after extruding individual faces of complex meshes is a pain having to scale each one, the shrink/flatten and push/pull most cases is very difficult to get the desirable result.
there is the inset extrude script but once you drop the tool and want to change something the solution is to remake the operation or try to fix it with shrik-push...
@indexOFrefraction Assuming that the faces are completely separate from each other, yes, it will scale them in their respective places. Thanks for the comment! I haven't worked on this in a while because all development on Blender's current mesh system has been more or less frozen in a very long anticipation of BMesh. If, come BMesh, this option doesn't work like I've made it to here, I'll rewrite the option for BMesh and maybe we can have it officially. :)
