Thanks for this tutorial. It has really helped me out. always been an acoustic guitarist but trying out the electric and we are doing this one at church on Sunday. I'm all set thanks to you!
@chrtrocks123 You can feel free to be creative one it for sure. The song has a very straight feel, so I'm not sure if a dotted delay would really serve the song well,
@LHracing34, There are a few reasons to use a capo for lead in a church setting, and I'm not sure why there is a common theme for criticizing the use of a capo. Even Lincoln Brewster uses one sometimes. If you are praising God, then it doesn't matter, and if it sounds good who cares if a capo is used or not. A capo can help on a song like this where you may want to use an open string as a pedaltone against a melody. Say you do this song in another key, like A or C, then a capo could help u stil
Hey, thanks for putting this up without a capo!!! I don't understand what the point of one is on lead, electric guitar parts like this song!! It seems like no one knows how to play without a capo anymore !
Hey There; Great video. We're doing this on Sunday and I got stepped on with the lead!!! Yes..I'm praying!!LOL. I kind of see what you're doing, however, could you tell me what fret and string your doing?? not mentioned in the video, and it's kinda hard to tell. Looks like you're staying on the B string...or is it G??? Thanks, Dave.
@Strummin4Jesus10 Yes -- that affects the tab quite a bit -- you'll have to transpose everything to the key of G, which means transposing everything 2 full steps down (4 "notes")
If you ever get get a chance can you please do I am Free?I already know it but I ewant to learn it differently because I learned it in a higher key.Thank you!God Bless!!
Love this song!I'm 12 and I'm in a kids worship band at Christian tabernacle(Houston TX)And we are doing this song.I play guitar also.I go to Grace Community Church and love it there! Thanks for posting the video!God Bless You!
Hey Moe! I would probably play the lead parts on the verses and the first chorus. On the big choruses and the bridge, I would drop to larger rhythm type chords to give the song some power and size. It ultimately depends on what the other musicians are playing. Listen to what is going on around you, and ask yourself what the song needs. If at the moment, it needs something melodic, play the lead part. If it needs some power or size, play chords, or something that takes up more sonic space.
@moe761 you should play rhythm always ,when there is only one guitar lead guitar as it is called "lead" can only be used as a fill between another instrument guitar piano , etc hope this helped . GOB Bless .
Hey bro, great job, the exact delay settings are modulated delay set to eighths, and a reverse delay set to quarters stacked, with a modulated reverb on. :D I think the reverse delay is quarters, I am having trouble remembering the exact setting for that, and run the eight's first in your chain into the reverse delay.
The song is actually capoed on the forth fret, and the build on the bridge is not octaves, he adds on a micro pog. I have seen Daniel Carson (Chris Tomlin's guitarist) play it.
@wwinford Cool man. Good to know. Most of our guys here at NLC don't have a Micro Pog, so we try to lay it out in a way that everyone can play it without being hindered by gear.
Thanks Matt! Awesome stuff and there are alot of us out here looking for a quick edge on playing these great songs in church each Sunday. Keep on posting these for us!!

you play on the key of b and on the track he plays in A

hello, this tutorial is great help, one question, if we are playing this song in the key of G in Church does that effect this tab an? thanks
Strummin4Jesus10 11 months ago

NewLifeChurchWorship 11 months ago
@Strummin4Jesus10 You can just detune your guitar to C standard tuning and then play this tab, otherwise you'll have to transpose the tab.
Or make your congregation sing higher ;P

hi
please let me know which effector is the best for playing the songs of Chris Tomlin?
I'd love to play Awakening, God of this City, and Our God for worship lead.
my part is electric guitar but my effector actually doesn't have a great effect for playing these songs......
If you not sure, just tell me which maker's effector are you using:):)
I'd love to see the response from you due this Sunday!!
Thanks and God Bless You^^
