  • GREAT NEWS fans of The Glands!! I just saw them play at Yo La Tengo's Hanukkah Fest 2011 at Maxwell's & spoke to them afterwards. Their opening set was incredible & they are back together & will have stuff up on the web soon...hopefully we'll be hearing a new album, & seeing live shows sooner than later!!! Thanks to Yo La Tengo who are huge fans & boosters of the band for turning me onto them!

  • And for anyone near Savannah they're playing at The Wormhole on Bull St tonight!

  • Complete travesty that this crap is going to be the first music played in the Georgia Theatre since it burned down.

  • they are playing august 1 for the grand re-opening of the georgia theatre in athens

  • they Are playing 8-1-11 at the ga theatre. it doesn't change the fact that ross is the most rude person on planet earth.

  • Well, I don't know about you but I'm a huge Glands fan myself. I have both their CDs.

  • I was recently talking to the leader's best friend (a few months ago...) he was mum when I mentioned a new album. Happy to hear they're playing out. I used to work with the drummer and lead singer.

Dude - they have two albums! In the vid you say "their cd" but there's the self-titled second disc and the awesome first album, "Double Thriller."

  • I was recently talking to the leader's best friend (a few months ago...) he was mum when I mentioned a new album. Happy to hear they're playing out. I used to work with the drummer and lead singer.

  • The Glands are back, and played a secret reunion show last night in Athens at Flicker Bar & Theatre. So good!

  • Joe's played w/the Eskimos and Nutria, as well as Casper and the Cookies. Frank McDonnell, who played guitar on a bout 1/3 of the album is in Producto. They haven't been as active lately and are currently operating as a duo, but I highly recommend trying out the CD, Producto 2

  • Ross is a cool guy (as are the rest). I think problems w/the record company (legendarily undependable Capricorn) kinda screwed them up. Apparently most of what should be a new album is actually in the can. Don't know if you were successful in making contact, but some encouragement might help.

  • Hi,

Let you know why I came here listening Glands stuff

Love the Drive by Truckers and I am reading in the Uncut Magazine(150 greatest albums of the year) that Patterson Hood's album of the decade is the Glands.

    Sounds good

Thnxx for putting this up so I could listen

  • Just stumbled across this. I remember really liking this album and they did at least one tour, because I remember seeing them opening for Joan of Arc in Boston around '99 or '00.

  • yeah, ross is holding it down at school kids, i think casper and the cookies has a member or two from the glands.

  • The Glands did open for at least one Shins show, some time after 2002, in Ohio. I saw them in Athens around 1999/2000, at a relatively sparsely attended show, and they were brilliant. No one who likes the band seems to understand why they aren't world famous.

    A truly remarkable band.

  • 264 E Clayton St

    Athens, GA 30601

    (706) 353-1666

  • thats the address for Schoolkids Records, I know that Joe the drummer works at Vision Video he's a really cool guy. You should come visit Athens sometime. It's like nowhere else in the world

  • I love the glands!!! Itunes finally has their first album to download/purchase.

Their second album is the only one I will list as "fav music".

  • i agree...the Glands rock! i've been looking for this band since what maybe early _._._.? pre-Green. and how ironic they are from Athens? i'm from the south and music is my muse but somehow they escaped my radar. comeback Glands...we're not done with you yet!

  • Love the Glands, miss the Glands

  • Ross is the man and I met the band and became friends with the band and mainly ROss.He manages school kids records in athens and has been recording a follow up for a while .I call and bug him about it and now it seems it may not get released,Seems he hate the record label he's on.You all should send letters to the store and show him how interested you are in him putting out a follow up..

  • ross owns school kids i think. probably the most ballin record store in athens. one of the other workers in there showed my brother the vinyl and we've been in love with the glands since. we want to ask him about it, but we're too scared

  • Saw them open for Modest Mouse on 9/12/2001 in LA. Talk about a weird night, everyone was still reeling from the events of 9/11 and the crowd at that show totally seemed to be wondering if we should even be there. The answer was a resounding "yes"! The Glands were great and so was Modest Mouse. Still, a very strange evening.

  • This makes me so sad that Ross isn't still releasing music for us to hear. I saw them twice on tour. Once opening for Modest Mouse and then on their own at the Troubadour.

This is still one of my favorite records ever. I told Ross that after a show and he seemed surprised. Please Ross if you read this start a mypsace page and add songs!

  • He said "They broke up" and that's all he said. So there's the answer to your mystery.

  • My bro in law played the guitar with The Glands...and also the recording artist

  • i love the glands so much

the glands just broke up (and by "just" i don't mean like, recently i mean...they just stopped...)

i think there were some health problems or something (don't quote me on that)

but my mom is pretty good friends with ross...so i'll try to get the scoop from her!

  • I love 'Breathe Out' and 'Lovetown'

    cheers

  • how bout I ask Ross Shapiro where he went, he works at the record store down the street from me. He's a real nice guy, always helpful.

  • oh yeah i forgot ross works at schoolkids records

  • the gland are like my fav ever, the last i heard of them was their drummer joe roe plays for "casper and the cookies"

  • i lived in athens at one time, although i came to town knowing the glands and thinking i would see them often. they played a handful of shows in my two years there. they did open for the shins, on the same tour that rogue wave opened some dates. the lead singer, ross shapiro, i think still manages school kids records in athens. my question, is that they apparently were putting the finishing touches on an album in 2003. i wish they could get it out somehow, even if velocette is screwing them

  • The last time The Glands came through Ft. Worth, TX, they stayed at my house after the show. From their comments, their record label was pretty much screwing them. The label didn't provide any CD's or anything to sell on the road, no merch, nothing. I'm sure the label folded, hence why you can't find anything about them and rarely can track down their CD's. I think they just got tired from the situation that arose out of that. They felt pretty put out and disenchanted.

  • I know they were all working guys too, some with significant others and such. Maybe they just hung it up after that debaucle. It does suck because they were greatness. I know their last bass player Andy does some recording and recorded an album for an Athens group called Psychic Hearts. They might know more.

  • this is great you put this up I hope it turns people on to this band I love both albums equally and think anyone who likes indie primarily 90`s indie should know and will enjoy this band you do a great service here......maybe them ending with such a peak is a good thing "always leave them wanting more"

  • hey there. i live in athens. the glands were one of athens' greatest bands ever (and that's really something!) They never released anything after their self titled record, though rumors of an unreleased third album have swiled around town for years now. ross, the lead singer and main songwriter hasn;t released anything under any other name either. He now operates an independent record store in town called school kids. maybe they have a website from whicih you cold purchase...

  • their first record, double thriller. doug, the guitarist still makes the rounds and occasionally will sit in with a some folks here in town but he ins't a member of any other post-glands bands. Joe, the drummer, is playing with a band called casper and the cookies plus he's just started his own band; they just played out for the first time last month. the bass player on the record is a guy named craig and he's a tour manager right now for a faily succesful indie band.

  • I too would like to know this question.

I stumbled upon them last summer and found their first cd on ebay for $5 bucks so I bought it. Man do I love it. Turned out that cd was 1 of 500 they self released before they got signed to their first label. Guess I lucked out.

  • I agree, this album is one of my all time favorites. it gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. my girlfriend found a copy of Double Thriller for my birthday last year. it was good, but not as good as their self titled album. still had the same charm though. I would really love a new album by them. good luck in your search. I'll keep checking back to see if any new info pops up. I too have searched for info to no avail. it's almost like they didn't exist.

  • agreed. their debut is a great album. as for their disappearance - things like this happen pretty often in the music world. their are many reasons as to why things don't work out:finances/musical differences/direction among band members/maybe they only wanted to record one or two records at most.

The beauty behind a 'record' is that it captures a special moment in time and documents it for others to enjoy.
