the reason people have problems with skipping is not the software your mp3's must be at least 128 kb even better 192 kb and if you go up to 256 youll have problems also. all my bitrates are at 192 and i have no issues with skipping.. best turntable ever made
There is some firmware problems that Numark never corrected. I have owned mine since they first came out (paid $1200 for each), I ended up buying Serato to use with them because they are not reliable playing from the hard drives or CD's. Imagine your track skipping during a gig.. Well that happened countless times before I switched to Serato. Now the only thing running from the HDX's are the Serato time coded audio.

All djs should be able to scratch to some extent if u mix with a turntable as u need to have the feel of the plate in order to mix.
As for these decks themselves im sorry to say as of yet i havt heard much about them. recently i have been bussy working so havnt kept up with the techn. Personaly i like the CDJ 1000 MK3's.
Its what i use and they are practicle. U can use all the features on them well in conj with DJM 800 and gets the job done. Durable and can be used well with effx pads&samp
